Aberdovey (Aberdyfi) is a charming harbour village set between the mountains of southern Snowdonia and miles of golden sandy beach. Spend your days crabbing from the jetty (bait available at the RNLI shop), jumping off at high tide if youâre feeling brave, or simply relaxing on the sand with a picnic or barbecue as the sun sets. Walk the four-mile stretch of beach to Tywyn and catch the train back if your legs are tired or follow the scenic Roman Road near the Penhelig Arms for a pretty clifftop stroll with picnic spots along the way.
A five-minute drive brings you to Tywyn, home to the Talyllyn Railway, Britainâs first preserved heritage steam railway and the much-loved Magic Lantern Cinema. Youâll also find great fish and chips at MĂŽr Tywyn Chippy, family fun at the leisure centre pool, and tennis, crazy golf and more at the municipal park. Further afield, explore the waterfalls at Dolgoch, take the train to Harlech to visit its impressive castle, or head to Barmouth via Fairbourneâs steam railway and water taxi for a classic seaside day out.
For something different, discover artisan crafts and King Arthurâs Labyrinth at Corris Craft Centre, wander the independent shops of Machynlleth, or visit Portmeirion for a colourful Italianate escape. Nature lovers are well catered for too, with the Dyfi Osprey Project, RSPB Ynys-hir and the red kite feeding at Bwlch Nant yr Arian all within easy reach. Whether youâre seeking adventure, wildlife, or simple seaside pleasures, Pandy Cottage is perfectly placed to enjoy it all.
