Lovely Cottage Northumberland, Sunny Patio. Nr Bamburgh & Seahouses.Dog-Friendly
The Old Post Office is a charming stone cottage, built around 1800. For many years it was the Post Office and general store and the hub of the village. Nowadays the cottage offers guests a warm and stylish welcome.
The cottage has been recently refurbished throughout with a new kitchen and shower room. It is tastefully decorated, with quality furnishings, pops of colour and lovely artwork on the walls.
The master bedroom is a generous room, with windows to front and rear. Sunshine floods into the room in the mornings through the large front window. Both windows are fitted with sheer blinds and insulated blackout curtains.
There is a luxurious king size bed with upholstered headboard. Bed linen is high thread count Egyptian cotton. The duvet and pillows are anti-allergy. A gorgeous velvet bedspread and waffle blanket complete the luxury hotel feel. There are bedside tables with lamps on both sides of the bed and plug sockets for charging phones etc. A large oak chest of drawers with a mirror on top provide ample clothes storage. There is hair dryer for your convenience. The full length mirror rotates to reveal hanging space for clothes.
Thick, fluffy towels are provided for each guest.
The twin room is a bright room with two comfortable single beds. Each is made up with anti-allergy duvet and pillows, and high thread count Egyptian cotton bed linen and topped with cotton velvet bed spreads and cushions. There is a large oak chest of drawers for clothes storage. The single window to the rear has a blackout blind and curtains.
The main living/dining area is furnished with good quality furniture. You will find a large corner sofa and an arm chair. There is a coffee table and a wooden chest containing games including scrabble, chess, cards and several jigsaw puzzles.
A wood burning stove provides a focal point, above which a smart TV is mounted with remote control.
Near the large front facing window is a round pine table and four old pine farmhouse chairs with seat pads. There are several lamps in the room for more atmospheric lighting.
Shelves contain local walking and cycling guide books, local history books as well as fiction, poetry and children's books for your enjoyment during your stay.
Dog owners will find dog blankets, treats and other essentials in a basket next to the sofa.
In the corner of the room is a built-in cupboard in which you will find an iron and ironing board.
Beyond the main living room is the second living room in what was once the Post Office shop. Here you will find two sofas, a coffee table and an electric stove to create a cosy atmosphere. There is an oak desk and chair providing a quiet work space for anyone who might need it.
The bathroom is newly fitted with toilet, sink and electric shower. There is a window to the rear and a heated towel rail. Soap, hand lotion, shampoo and conditioner are provided.
The kitchen is well equipped with hob, oven, extractor, two fridges; one with an ice box, microwave, kettle, toaster and everything you might need for cooking. In the bottom of one of the white dressers are two swing-topped bins.
The knives are sharpened regularly.
Between the kitchen and the bathroom is the back door leading to the sunny decking area with sofa, table and 4 chairs. The cushions for the sofa are stored in the large outdoor box on the deck and the storage corridor between the two living rooms.
This corridor, accessed from within through a door and from the front of the house by the second front door provides secure internal bike storage.
Parking is parallel to our oil tank behind the cottage or, as I prefer, in front of the cottage on the road.
Located on West End, the road which runs through the centre of this peaceful village, traffic is light and infrequent. One of the things that strikes you about Chatton is the amount of bird song and the variety of bird species.
Chatton has a great pub, The Percy Arms, which offers good food, and a friendly and well stocked village store, both within a 2 minute flat walk of the cottage.
In the pretty front garden is a table and four chairs.
To the west, a short drive brings you to the beautiful and remote Cheviot Hills. Within easy reach to the east, you will discover the famous Northumbrian beaches with their miles of white sand and and the historic castles of Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and Dunstanburgh.
