The Location
Kalamaki is a charming coastal village, located on the southeastern side of the island. The village is home to a long, sandy beach, ideal for swimming and relaxing. The shallow waters make it family-friendly, and the area is known for its calm environment. Kalamaki Beach is also part of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, an area protected for the conservation of the endangered loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta), which nest on the beach between May and August. You may be able to spot turtles while swimming or on boat tours. Just near to Kalamaki, Laganas is a popular tourist spot with a lively nightlife scene. While Kalamaki is more relaxed, Laganas offers a more active social scene. Kalamaki has many traditional Greek tavernas offering fresh seafood, local specialties and dishes with locally grown ingredients. The area also has a mix of cafes and bars, perfect for enjoying a drink while watching the sunset.
