The Newlands Valley, which lies between Braithwaite and Buttermere, is breathtaking, and Bassenthwaite Lake is a wonderful spot. There's a wide variety of walks to choose from, from strolls in the countryside to strenuous ascents of Skiddaw. Take a boat ride around the lake or visit Mirehouse, a beautiful house and gardens with an outdoor theatre located on its beaches. Keswick, with all its sights and sounds, is conveniently close by, as are the Lake District Wildlife Park, Dodd Wood, Derwentwater, and more.
