We would like to address the concerns you have raised while offering some important clarifications. Firstly, in relation to cleanliness, the Villa Manager has informed us that you arrived at the property before the agreed check-in time of 16:00. At that moment, the housekeeping team was still on-site completing the final preparations, including the cleaning of the barbecue. The manager attempted to call you around 15:30 to suggest an earlier check-in, only to discover that you had already entered the villa premises. This timing unfortunately gave you the impression that the villa was not fully prepared, though the team was diligently finalising their work. With regard to the bathrooms and claims of a musty smell, the Villa Manager confirms that no such concerns were communicated during your stay. As always, had these been reported, the management team would have arranged for immediate attention. The matter of electricity supply is indeed a known limitation of the area, as the villa’s power is delivered via overhead lines. The Villa Manager personally explained this upon your arrival and advised that multiple high-consumption appliances should not be used simultaneously to prevent tripping the fuses. Clear instructions were also given on how to reset the power should this occur. While we understand this was a source of frustration, the power infrastructure is a regional limitation and entirely beyond our control. Regarding the air conditioning unit in the top-floor bedroom, it is important to note that the Villa Manager did not deny knowledge of the fault. On the contrary, it was explained to you that the issue had been identified the previous week and a technician had attended to assess it. As it is a warranty matter with the manufacturer, the repair has unfortunately been delayed. A fan was provided in the interim to ensure some level of comfort. You also raised concerns regarding the fridges not cooling effectively. The Villa Manager addressed this directly during your stay, explaining that placing a large quantity of warm products into an empty fridge requires time—sometimes up to 24 hours—for the appliance to reach optimum temperature. This is not a fault specific to this property but a common scenario across many villas. The pool table, table tennis table, and associated equipment are provided as additional amenities for guest enjoyment. The Villa Manager confirms that sufficient equipment was available on-site and no concerns about these facilities were reported during your stay. Similarly, the issue with the top-floor toilet was promptly resolved on the same day it was raised. Regarding the internal doors and latches, no problems were reported at any point during your stay, nor have similar concerns been raised by previous guests. It is also important to acknowledge that in the weeks leading up to your arrival, VillaMore received an unusually high volume of correspondence from yourself, in which you referenced various negative reviews found on external websites, many of which were not associated with our clients. Despite our reassurances, it appeared that you had already developed a perception of the property prior to arrival and were predisposed to find fault. Villa Quinta Luz is not marketed as a luxury villa but is instead positioned as a spacious and well-located property offering excellent value for larger groups. We are sincerely sorry that the property did not align with your expectations; however, it does seem that no accommodation would have met the level of scrutiny applied prior to your stay. Given that the primary issue you experienced was related to the power supply—a factor entirely outside of the villa's or VillaMore's control—it is deeply disappointing that you chose to leave a 2-star review. The property was fully prepared, any minor maintenance concerns were addressed immediately when reported, and the Villa Manager was available throughout your stay to assist. Regrettably, this review feels predetermined, given the level of negativity expressed in your correspondence prior to arrival, where you actively sought out adverse online commentary to question the suitability of the villa before even experiencing it for yourself. Dear Helene Thank you for your review - we would like to clarify that we were in contact with you on 08 January with a detailed report of your stay. Unfortunately during your stay Portugal experienced unprecedented bad weather which is beyond anyone's control. The villa is not luxurious however at this price point for your stay €47 per person per night is excellent value. We did notice your first review was not inline with vrbo's guidelines and feel some of your comments were disingenuous . Please see below the reply we have already sent to you. Dear Helene Thank you for taking the time to set out your concerns in detail. We have now reviewed your complaint thoroughly and have also discussed each point in detail with Arvid, the local villa manager, who attended the property during and immediately after your stay. We would like to address the key matters raised and clarify our position. Regarding the location, the villa is situated near a minor local railway line and a road, both of which are clearly visible on maps and satellite imagery available prior to booking. The railway is lightly used, with very infrequent trains, and historically has not generated complaints from guests. That said, we appreciate that sensitivity to noise can vary from guest to guest. Regarding temperature and comfort, the property is equipped with air-conditioning units in all bedrooms, which also function as heaters. When the villa was inspected after your departure, the internal temperature was notably warm. One unit was reported as not functioning correctly, and the villa manager promptly brought an additional heater for your use. Bedding provided is in line with local winter standards in Portugal, where properties rely primarily on heating rather than heavy duvets; nevertheless, we understand that personal expectations may differ. Concerning maintenance and plumbing, the period of your stay coincided with exceptionally severe weather, including heavy rainfall and strong winds, which affected a large part of Portugal. Some of the water ingress you experienced appears to have been directly linked to these unusual conditions. A leak under the kitchen sink was not previously known and will be rectified. One toilet blockage was reported; due to the national holiday period, it was unfortunately not possible to arrange an immediate repair, although multiple other bathrooms remained fully operational. On the matter of the fireplace, firewood is not advertised as being provided and is standardly purchased by guests locally. The villa manager did supply firewood during your stay and provided guidance on its use. Cleaning of the fireplace glass by guests, while appreciated, was not requested or required. In terms of safety and security, the area in which the villa is located is considered very safe, with no history of incidents. The main garden and carport gates are not lockable, as described in the property layout, and one studio door was found to be functioning correctly when inspected after departure. We nonetheless acknowledge your concerns and will review all locking mechanisms as part of ongoing maintenance. Regarding the kitchen equipment and amenities, the capsule coffee machine was replaced during your stay with a larger, more suitable machine, and the villa manager also brought an additional heater at the same time. Other items mentioned, including table tennis rackets and cookware, will be checked and replaced where necessary. These points, while noted, are considered minor issues rather than factors rendering the property unusable. In conclusion, VillaMore must respectfully disagree that the circumstances justify a refund of 50% of the rental cost. The villa is a charming nine-bedroom property offering excellent value for money for large groups, and it is not marketed as a luxury villa. It has hosted many happy guests and benefits from consistently strong reviews. We believe that the exceptionally poor weather during your stay unfortunately had a significant impact on your overall experience. Finally, we would like to clarify that no security deposit was taken from you in relation to this booking, and therefore there is no deposit to refund. Regarding the shutters, our local manager attended the villa immediately and installed a brand-new set of curtains to provide an additional layer of comfort. With respect to the kitchen equipment, many of the pans and utensils had been replaced only a couple of weeks prior to your arrival. As with most holiday villas, the inventory may differ slightly from what guests are accustomed to in their own homes, but it remains well equipped for a comfortable stay. The villa team also revisited to check the hob and blender, and both were confirmed to be in full working order. Although fans are not listed as part of the villa’s advertised amenities, additional units were provided upon request to ensure your needs were met. This villa remains excellent value for larger groups, offering generous space and a lovely setting. While we always strive to ensure every guest has an enjoyable and relaxing stay, it did seem that nothing we provided was able to meet expectations on this occasion, despite the efforts of our team to assist throughout.
