We do not typically respond to reviews negative or otherwise from guests that stay at our property, however, we felt that future guests should be aware of the type of hosts we are. This house was built at the turn of the century and was restored after Hurricane Sandy caused significant damage. There are fewer and fewer large homes still in Ventnor; many have been torn down and replaced with 4-bedroom 3-4 bath modern construction. We have replaced the floors, replaced all the appliances, repaired, and replaced both bathrooms, repaired and replaced plaster walls and ceilings and restored doors and hardware in this house. Many of our guests appreciate the little details and the original clawfoot tub in this property. They find the furniture comfortable and enjoy their time at the beach and seeing the surrounding area. They appreciate that we supply linens, towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, cooler and beach badges; these are not typically standard at the shore. We pride ourselves in responding to guests’ requests when there is an issue with the house that we can address. We answer right away and often have the issue taken care of in less than a day or sooner. These guests complained about the house from the moment that they arrived. They arrived on a Saturday night and texted us at 11:30 pm on a Sunday with a vast array of complaints about the property and demanded an immediate discount of their first week and refund of their second. We called them right then to find what their concerns were. Their daughter was rude on the phone and even when we said that we would be right over on Monday morning to assess the issue, they were insistent that they did not want us to fix anything but demanded a discount/refund. We contacted VRBO immediately about this type of behavior which violates VRBO’s extortion policy. The guests did not say they were leaving the property, so we went on Monday morning with a plumber that was able to clear a slow shower drain. We assessed the other issues and fixed the screen that they had broken on Saturday. They had also broken the screen door latch. We assessed the stair railing; the stairs have two railings that can be used. The other railing on the stairs did not have any wobble. The one with the minor wobble could not be repaired on the spot without taking out the stair that it sat on. These guests did not appreciate the customer service of us coming over at a moments notice, to replace the beeping smoke detector battery, cleaning the minor amount of mildew on the shower curtain, providing a stool in the bathroom with the clawfoot tub for toiletries and fixing the screen door again. Again, each time they complained, and we went to the house, they insisted on a discount/refund. The dryer worked on several settings timed/heat settings and only took 1 minute to determine that only the pre-set settings (permanent press, delicate, towels) were not functioning properly. These guests used this dryer in this condition for the entirety of their two weeks stay. We have since purchased a new dryer so that future guests can rest assured, they can dry their delicate clothes during their stay. As for the grill, we are not sure what this guest is referring to, the grill has only been used for one summer season and works perfectly. Our furniture both inside and out has never been a complaint of guests, all have found it comfortable. In fact, these guests brought a very large dog that climbed on the brand-new leather couches and scratched the cushions. We allow pets in our properties but have strict rules about pets not being allowed on furniture. These guests did not respect our property and clearly were just determined to try to get a free vacation at the shore. We will continue to offer the same 5-star customer service to guests that choose our property. Obviously, you can’t please everyone and some guests just like to complain.

We strive to provide a wonderful beach vacation experience for our guests. We are very clear in our listing and with communication with guests that this house only has window AC units that can be controlled at the individual level and that there is only on-street parking at this address. As typical for many Jersey shore towns, on-street parking can be tight in the summer season and renters are advised to park their car for their stay as much as possible. Ventnor is a very walkable city. Many people either walk or ride bikes to beaches, restaurants and the boardwalk. We fixed the screen on the front door shortly after the guest arrived and also addressed a slow drain in the kitchen while we were there. We were not aware that there was a broken tile in the kitchen and that the tv in the kids bedroom was not programed correctly to the wifi- if notified, we would have immediately remedied the situation. The backyard of this property is a complete concrete patio that is maintained every other week with leaf blowing and cleaning. We also are one of only a handful of owners that allow pets, especially large dogs. We can't control that there is minimal grass on the sidewalks, but again most people walk their dog in the mornings for exercise as well as to curb their pet. It is unfortunate, that this guest thought this was only a 3/5 experience. We will continue to strive to provide a house where guests can have a 5-star experience as many in the past have expressed.
