Great location!!

I've read some of the reviews of this place and can say that we had none of the problems--someone was there to greet us, the buzzer worked fine, as did the wifi, and we were able to lock the doors without any issue. The best thing about this place is the location--I definitely prefer this side of Christopher street, which is between the heart of the Village and NYU. It seems quieter, and it's really charming. There is a great "secret" coffee shop downstairs, Hudson Bagels two blocks away, and a yummy French bistro across the street. Subway lines are all convenient and easy to access. The apartment itself is not very charming, but for us, the point of going to NYC is to get out and see New York. There are three decent sized bedrooms (with windows!) with double beds and dressers (and living space has comfy sofa that can double as a bed) and more importantly, four small bathrooms (shower and small sink). It can be tough using the sink because its set flush against the walls so water can spill on the floor, but the water pressure/hot water is great in the shower, and the sink configuration is my only complaint about the apartment. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it!

The list of problems is too long for this review so I will hit the highlights:

1. The entry door was VERY difficult to open both from the outside AND THE INSIDE. With a young child in the apartment we were very nervous about this fire hazard (yes, the smoke detectors were not all working either) and literally kept the door unlocked at night.

2. WIFI never worked.

3. One of the two TV'S never worked, the other was intermittent.

4. We called the owners representative the morning after our arrival who assured he would be out to remedy things. After a no show that day, a text that night yielded a "Tomorrow".

The following evening after still no response another text got us a "Maybe tomorrow".

Not surprisingly, no one showed up the next day either.

There is a serious mold problem in one of the showers. Basics like a bar of soap in the shower or salt and pepper in the kitchen were not provided. The list goes on. Do yourself a favor and try someplace else.

PS I have been using VRBO and similar services for many years and never had a problem.

We don't recommend that you stay here

The location was really good and the neighbourhood was great. The bathrooms were good and there was plenty of hot water.

Why don't we recommend it -

We were told someone would meet us at the property. No-one did. Another guest helped us get in - the apartment was ready for us. There was a water leak from the flat upstairs (previously reported by the people before us) which meant we could not use one bedroom as water had fallen onto the bed. We arrived on a Friday but we could not contact anyone to deal with the leak. The managing agents are very poor in answering any calls to the office phone or their mobiles. We emailed and called many times. The leak was eventually mended but then we had to ask for replacement bedding. This was delivered on the Monday but in error was 12 pillowcases. Appropriate replacement bedding came on Tuesday.

There were no instructions for anything in the apartment. The TV in the living room didn't work (it was sorted a few days later). We did not know what to do with the recycling or the rubbish. There are no places to hang clothes, other than backs of doors. The window blind in one bedroom had fallen off, clearly not recently. We reported this; it was not mended. We were there for two weeks with one bedroom having a window without a blind.

On one occasion we were unable to leave the building as the front door exit lock broke. This was unsafe and also inconvenient.

No-one is checking how things are in the apartment. Mugs were chipped; bedding was poor quality; towels were also poor; oven knobs were broken.

The washing machine and dryer are not in the apartment as stated. They are in the basement of the building which is ok if you know that (we had to ask), but the cleaners for other apartments are not happy if you are washing clothes when they are washing apartment bedding. The building superintendent and the plumber are very nice but in a holiday apartment you should not get to know them.

The aircon unit in the living room stopped working but we didn't report it - we had got to the point where we didn't expect a response for days. The managing agents are not supportive of the apartment owner but I contacted the owner and whilst he was apologetic he did not seem able to encourage a better response from them.

Having said all of that we enjoyed our stay because of the location and the neighbourhood.

Vermieter-Kommentar: Dear Marie, I am really sorry that your stay was compromised by the small leak in the AC unit. We did everything we could to minimize the inconvenience during your stay even by coming to fix the issue on a week end and the issue is now fully fixed. The customer service team gave you all the instructions for your check in and had an emergency on that day so they could not send anyone to check you in. There is no recycling to be done as the superintendent takes care of it. The blind in the bedroom has been repaired as well as the air-con unit in the living room. The front door of the building is accessible by using a 5 digits code that we change regularly. The Customer service office is open during business hours from 10am to 6pm and I am personally reachable by email or WhatsApp at anytime (Days and Nights). The apartment is only 3 months old and all our other guests really enjoyed it (See other reviews on the website) and had a great experience during their stay with us. We are sorry that this instance was an exception to that and we are working to make it even better for our future guests. Thank you, Joe.

Lovey property - well situated

Clean and Comfortable

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in NYC with this flat as our home. With four kids, the extra space compared with a hotel made a big difference. Laundry was great! The flat was very clean and updated. There was a large leak in the living room ceiling which made the floor slippery and used up bath towels but the place is in an old building so understandable. Throwing toilet paper in the garbage and not the toilet took some getting used to as well. Really only downsides were our lack of instructions for check in and check out as well as difficulty in connecting up with management. Calls were returned but no messages left. The message box was full on the management end so I couldn't leave messages either. Email wasn't answered very timely which was frustrating but our questions weren't super urgent, except not knowing where to find laundry, but had an emergency come up, it would have been difficult. Overall, a great trip to NYC and this flat was a great fit for our family of six. Highly recommend!
