Atatu Clifftop | Stay Waiheke
Summary:
Suspended above Hekerua Bay, Atatū Clifftop captures the essence of coastal luxury, architectural calm, glass, light, and the sound of the sea below.
The Space:
Atatū Clifftop by Stay Waiheke is a home designed for calm and connection. Created by Fearon Hay Architects, it sits high above Hekerua Bay, a glass-framed retreat where architecture, light, and sea meet in perfect balance.
The living, dining, and kitchen areas flow seamlessly together, framed by floor-to-ceiling glass that draws the view into every corner. The open fire adds warmth and comfort on cooler days, the ideal place to read, share a drink, or simply watch the weather shift across the water.
The kitchen is beautifully appointed and equipped with quality appliances, generous bench space, and everything needed for effortless dining and entertaining. Whether it’s a shared breakfast with the doors open or dinner prepared as the sun sets, it’s a space designed to make cooking part of the experience.
Slide open the doors and the deck becomes part of your living space. The infinity pool stretches toward the horizon, surrounded by loungers and a soft coastal breeze. As evening settles, gather by the outdoor fireplace for dinner and a glass of local wine, the sea just visible beyond the glass.
Inside, three thoughtfully designed bedrooms sleep up to six adults. The master suite opens directly to the ocean, so mornings begin with light and sea views. The second bedroom, with its king bed, catches the afternoon sun and overlooks native bush, while the third, with twin beds, offers privacy and comfort for friends or children. Two and a half bathrooms complete the home, each designed with understated luxury, clean lines, natural textures, and a deep sense of ease.
With award-winning vineyards and restaurants just minutes away, and Oneroa Village within easy reach, Atatū Clifftop is modern island living at its most refined: calm, connected, and quietly spectacular.

The Neighborhood:
Atatū Clifftop sits high above Hekerua Bay, in a peaceful pocket of Waiheke where the sea and native bush meet. It’s quiet and elevated, yet only minutes from Oneroa Village, with its cafés, restaurants, and boutique shops.
Enjoy long lunches and wine tastings at Mudbrick, Cable Bay, and Tantalus Estate, or head to The Heke Brewery and Distillery for a more relaxed afternoon under the trees. Most of the island’s top vineyards are within a short drive, and the bus route nearby makes exploring easy, the stops are right outside many of the wineries, so you can take your time and travel at island pace.
Oneroa Beach is only a few minutes away, perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or an evening walk along the sand. Back in the village, you’ll find local favourites like Tika Wine Bar, Fenice, and The Oyster Inn, owned by chef Josh Emett and his wife Helen, known for their relaxed coastal dining.
As the day slows, return to the calm of the clifftop, the air cooler, the sea turning silver, and the island settling quietly below.
Getting Around:
Getting around from Atatū Cliff Top is effortless. The Matiatia Passenger Ferry Terminal is less than five minutes away, and the nearest bus stop is just a six-minute walk from the property, linking you to beaches, vineyards, and restaurants across the island.
If you’re driving, there’s on-site parking for two cars, though you might prefer to move at island speed, cruising by e-bike or letting the bus take you between long lunches at Tantalus, Stonyridge, and Te Motu. Every route feels scenic here, framed by sea views, soft hills, and that sense of calm that never really leaves Waiheke.
Other Things to Note:
Atatū CliffTop by Stay Waiheke sits on a steep site with native planting and an unfenced cliff edge, and is therefore unsuitable for children.
Bookings are accepted on request only, with a minimum stay of seven nights between Christmas and mid-January, three nights over long weekends, and two nights at other times.
Interaction with Guests:
The Stay Waiheke team are locals who know the island well and are always happy to help. We’re available seven days a week from 8:30 am to 5 pm, and for emergencies only, there’s an after-hours number so you’re always covered.
