The Espy - Torquay Beach on your doorstep
Situated as close as you can get to the beach, just a hop, skip and a jump across the Esplanade you'll find yourself with feet on the sand. Cozy, compact, pet-friendly, this spot is filled with all the essentials and perfect for those that need a home base while they explore the coastline with their best friends (people and pets included!) Walking distances from shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, you're sure to head everywhere on foot!
Find everything you need for the perfect holiday in this gorgeous spot, from a sun-soaked front patio to a secure small courtyard. Sleeping 6 across three bedrooms, you'll find two double beds and a bunk to play dibs over who gets the top. Each bedroom features open or closed wardrobes, allowing you to unpack the suitcase to feel at home.
With a modern open-plan living, kitchen and dining area. Perch up on the dining table, sprawl across the cosy couch or seat yourself at the kitchen bar.
Finally, the shared main bathroom is ideal for cleaning off sandy feet and salty skin, while the generously sized laundry has ample room to store the slew of boogie boards, surfboard boards and wetties you're sure to hire!
Torquay is true to its fame; this lively beach town will have you out all day exploring the coastline, getting in the water or setting yourself up at a bar for the afternoon. Perfectly placed, this spot allows you to do it all, without the added hassle of holiday parking. Pop the car in park, unpack, slip on your sandals and head out on foot.
Torquay faves:
● The Salty Dog - Ideal for those who need a coffee in the morning. It's a local fave and dog friendly, head there on a Saturday, and you might even catch some acoustic tunes. The best part? It's straight across the road!
● Bomboras Beach Bar - Now it's the arvo, head straight back across the road to find this beach bar perched up top of The Salty Dog. It doesn't get much better with fresh brew straight from the tap, delicious cocktails, and a sprawling view of Fisherman's Beach.
● The Kyn - the perfect long lunch spot - with front and back outdoor dining, gorgeous interior design and delicious food, you'd be forgiven for wanting to stop by more than once.
Beaches:
● Fishos Beach - right on your doorstep, picturesque and often very calm and still, it's the perfect location to cool off! Plus, it's dog friendly!
● Torquay Surf Beach - if you are keen to dip your toe into the surfing world, this is the beginner-friendly spot for you.
● Bells Beach - a beautiful beach for relaxing and watching the pros do their thing out in the surf.
Things to do:
● Walk to Point Impossible - Chuck on the shoes, or go barefoot, you can walk from where you are all the way out to Point Impossible along the shoreline!
● Barefoot Bowls - An activity for when you want to be near the ocean but not on the sand. Torquay Bowls Club is just down the road and is perfect for the whole family.
● Picnic on the Torquay Foreshore - grab a picnic mat and pack a basket to watch the sunset from the lush green grass of the Torquay foreshore.
● Drive the Great Ocean Road - You're right on its doorstep; you couldn't visit Torquay without a little jaunt down the famed road now, could you?
● Hire some surfboards or a SUP - On a flat and calm day, heading out for a SUP is the perfect group activity. Cosy Corner and Barwon or Anglesea River mouths are all the ideal spots for this adventure. If it's surfing you're after, chat with the team at Go Ride A wave for the best beginner-friendly spots.
● Mountain bike riding - ready for an adventure? The back of Torquay is full of downhill tracks - head to The Eumerella Trails, between Anglesea and Torquay and get ready to get dusty.
● Strawberry Farm - if the bunk beds are housing kiddos, this is your one-stop shop for all things strawberries. Think fresh, think ice cream, think cakes!
● Skydiving- for those that need even more adrenaline than mountain bike riding or surfing, you might have to jump out of a plane to get it! No worries though; Skydive Great Ocean Road have got you covered.
