Amuarangi Retreat, Karangahake

Amuarangi is the perfect place to unwind, and recharge. Ideal for family gatherings, retreats, or a getaway with friends, the main house has all the modern conveniences to make your stay comfortable and the cabins have enough charm to make it memorable.

Located within walking distance of the Hauraki bike trail, walks, and local swimming holes, Amuarangi is the perfect base to explore the Karangahake Gorge.


Amuarangi consists of the Main house and two guest cabins set on just under an acre.

The Main House

The main house is comfortable and stylish with 3 bedrooms/ 4 beds that can accommodate up to 6 people
The open planned living area has large bi-folds opening out onto an expansive deck equipped with a large BBQ. The well-designed kitchen is equipped with a large oven and induction stove top, dishwasher. There is enough cutlery and dishes to cater to 10 people
The Lounge, equipped with a heat pump has a TV with Netflix and Neon access, DVD player, Stereo, and Xbox 360.
The Master bedroom has a Super King bed and an ensuite with luxurious heated tiles.
The second bedroom offers an inviting queen size bed and the third bedroom, has two single beds.
The main bathroom contains a large shower with a separate toilet.
The front of the house has a huge open space with gorgeous views, a trampoline for the kids, and enough room to play a game of Touch.

Casa Tavaita ( Cabin accommodation)

Located next to the main house, Casa Tavaita is made up of cabins consisting of a small lounge, 2 rooms/4 beds a kitchenette and a bathroom. It can accommodate up to 6 people.
The lounge and connecting loft cabin is fitted with a wood burner and/or Oil heater for heating. Its bi-fold doors open out to a garden area with a Small Weber BBQ, and chiminea.
The Loft Cabin has 2 single beds and a mezzanine accessed via a ladder with a double bed.
The adjoining enclosed lean-to functions as a kitchenette and includes a fridge, Kettle, Toaster, microwave, a double induction stove ( portable), and washing-up sink. ( Please note that the kitchen has no heating)
The Bula Room is tastefully furnished with a queen-size bed and an oil heater for heating.
The toilet and shower room can be accessed through the back of the kitchen and across the uncovered deck.
The back deck has a restored claw foot bath. Screened in for privacy, this is a sanctuary where you can enjoy bathing in serenity under the stars.

The Carpenter Cabin (rustic cabin accomodation)

Located under our redwood tree, with a gorgeous view of Mt Karangahake, the Carpenter Cabin offers basic accommodation for those who enjoy the simple pleasures of life. It can accommodate up to 4 people.
There is a built in caravan socket behind the cabin for those who wish to bring their motorhome or caravan
The Carpenter Cabin living area has a kitchen sink, dining table and couch that doubles as a single bed. The adjoining room has 2 single beds and a mezzanine with a small double foam mattress. ( Please note: access to the mezzanine is by a narrow ladder, not suitable for young children or large/old adults, the mezzanine area is narrow and only suitable for sleeping)

This cabin access to an outdoor shower and composting toilet a short walk away.( Or you may prefer to use the flushing toilets in the other dwellings)

PLEASE NOTE: The Carpenter Cabin and Casa Tavaita are simple cabins with many quirks and imperfections. They are NOT made to the same finish as a house.
