A-Frame of Mind Retreat - Meredith Lodging

Get away to a quiet and serene retreat in the forest surrounded by tall trees and creeks and just a short walk to the Sandy River at the A-Frame of Mind Retreat in Rhododendron. This charming little cabin is in a secluded 7 acre setting offering the ideal location for a romantic getaway or a solitude vacation to refresh and rejuvenate. This studio a-frame cabin has lots of windows and natural light on each end with views of the tall Douglas Fir and cedar trees all around. Take a pleasant 10-minute walk along an unmarked forest path to the Sandy River. With snow on the ground during the winter months, bring your snowshoes for exploring the property.

The vaulted living area includes a double futon that opens up to a bed with warm and cozy comforters. You will wake up in the morning and look out at the forest. The cabin is heated with electric heaters and a cute woodstove for added ambiance. The kitchen, while small has everything you need for a dinner for two with a range, microwave, and refrigerator plus pots, pans, and utensils. You will not want to leave the cabin, however, when you decide to venture out, you will be just minutes to dozens of hiking and mountain biking trails and 30 minutes or less to ski areas. Your dog is welcome to join you for an additional charge.

The location was great, and the A-frame very cute but it was not quite what we were expecting. One thing that would be helpful would be for the wood provided to actually fit in the woodstove. It was a little dark as well with only the two lamps. Otherwise very cute.

The futon was terrible to sleep in , very uncomfortable we wanted to leave after the first night. The wood for the wood stove left to use was cut to long to burn. (Very disappointed ) So was not very comfortable. Tv also didn’t work given the price I felt robbed…

The futon mattress is new, but we do understand that it might not be the perfect fit for all sleepers, depending on your desired firmness. Perfect Get-Away for Me and My Dog

Love the trails around the cabin and being out in the woods. There are other houses around but enough foliage to make it feel more isolated. It was perfect for my dog and I. But the toaster set off the fire alarm very easily since the place is so small. No big deal!

Beautiful and relaxing

We came for a short weekend and wish we could stay longer. The cabin is beautiful and cozy. There is a hiking trail just steps away with views of gorgeous trees, so many cool mushrooms, and the river. We are going to try and make a yearly trip out here!

Overall, we had a great time staying here, we stayed 5 days. The not so great:As previous reviews have mentioned, the firewood was too long to fit in the wood stove, we had to go buy a camping axe to cut it down to fit, even the wood in the box outside was all far too long. The lighter for the wood stove did not work, had to buy one as well. No scissors or sponge for washing dishes anywhere to be found. A sign on the washer says body soap would be provided, there was none. The sign also said there was a clear place to put trash and that there was a place for recycling, small trash can outside (fine, worked for us) but no recycling. When running the shower, even a couple minutes long, the water leaks onto the floor seemingly through the wall ? The wifi went off for the last two days we were there, unable to turn it back on and there's no service in the area to contact the management company. Dishes were not super clean and the cookware was very used and scratched up. The futon was... fine. The mini fridge would be totally fine for a couple day stay, it didn't keep our frozen food frozen though.The good: The property and A frame were beautiful. We loved the big windows and wood stove, it made for a very cozy week in the woods. The property was beautiful with tall mature trees towering above. Water ran hot. Gorgeous hiking and rivers nearby. Pet friendly, our critters loved the big yard. The thriftway isn't far and has a great selection of groceries and other items needed.

We’ve passed your notes to our housekeeping and maintenance teams and will take the following actions: - Firewood and lighter: the maintenance team did confirm that all wood pieces are cut below 12 inches and they did deliver a new lighter to the home. - Kitchen supplies: the housekeeping team will do an audit and replace all missing items and assess the worn cookware for replacement. - Shower leak: maintenance will inspect and repair the leak through the wall. - Wi‑Fi outage: we do have it back up and running well now. - Mini fridge: the maintenance team will repair or replace it. Cozy, very secluded with nearest homes hundreds of feet away and easy access to nature. Note there is no bed, only a futon, which we didn't realize ahead.

Long weekend getaway

Well place and quiet setting. Perfect for a couple looking to get away. The cabin was very clean. Despite its small size, it had everything we needed to be comfortable. Only things that should be noted are that to enter the property we had to press the keypad with our entire palm and enter a * after the key code, which was a little confusing at first.

Peace and Quiet

Needed a couple days of peace and quiet with the furry kiddo. Couldn't have been more perfect. Lots of hiking trails and forest for the doggo to explore. Didn't ever find a 'perfect' river spot but explored enough to find some banks where we could both comfortably hang out for a time before moving on. Home has just enough comforts to feel like a home while still providing a feel of being 'in the woods.' So quiet! Will def head back when I need an easy, short drive, 'get away from the noise' kinda stay. Thx for the nice time. 👍

Beautiful escape

Wow, wow, wow! What a beautiful spot! We feel very lucky to have found you! The futon was unexpectedly comfy! We slept so good! The blankets and sheets were nice as well. The shower put out good water pressure and it was hot when needed. The trails near by were unbelievably beautiful 😍 we were in complete awe of it all. I (the wife) didn’t want to leave! Our 11 month old pup had the time of her life! All the smells she got to enjoy! We’ve never seen her so happy! It was just a great experience! Thank you for sharing this spot to others! A Frame of Mind

Location was terrific! So quiet, yet close to the road and to town. The cabin was small, but very cute and had everything we needed! The futon was very uncomfortable to sleep on, tho. Maybe supply some kind of mattress pad and better pillows to make it more comfortable? Loved the fireplace! Bathroom was very tiny but clean and functional. Front door lock and handle need fixed so entry is easier. Property managers were able to give us a key so we could avoid using the keypad for entry as it did not function well. Still had trouble with the key as well, so hopefully the lock/handle is replaced or repaired!

Hotel in the Woods

The cabin is cozy with lots of room to roam. As far as being plopped in a private corner if the woods, the cabin was exactly what we wanted. It was a quick romp through the woods to get to the river, and while I was dissappointed to have to make a bed on my vacation, the futon was comfortable. I was put off by the sign on the ladder declaring the loft "off limits to guests." I've stayed in several cabins with welcoming lofts, so it felt imposing to have part of the small space I payed a lot of money for closed to me. Likewise, there was a cute woodstove, but the wood that was left was way too big to fit, and with all of 6 pieces of kindling, getting a fire going was just not in the cards. The amenities that were provided juxtaposed the rustic cabin feel with a cheep hotel room. We did have a lot of fun, and the customer support was fantastic. This was a much needed getaway for my wife and I, and we greatly enjoyed exploring the area around the cabin.

The low rating was because as we drove all the way there, and had to drive all the way back into town to get cell service and call property manager that the front door lock wouldnt unlock. Then she saud she had just left there and it does work. So we drive back up there and still cant get it to unlock. Was very frustrated. Back in town when I had the manager on phone she gave the assumption that it would be inconveinent for her to come up and help because she had no one to cover her in office and that indeed the lock worked. After about an hour, with one trip to get cell service, the manager showed up and right then we were able to jot it open miraculously. So yes she did show some concern and showed up, but feel it was a real hassle and a waste of our time for it to take so long to get inside.

Lovely spot, cabin could use a little TLC

The cabin was as described in the posting, a cozy spot in walking distance to trails by the Sandy River and close to a range of outdoor recreation around Mt. Hood. The location is beautiful, and the cabin is comfortable for 2 people, but it would be tight for more than 2. The heaters keep the place plenty warm (overnight lows were in the 30s when we were there). We had no problems with the usual amenities (hot water, wifi, small but functional kitchen, etc.).We had a few challenges, though: - The access code sent via email was incorrect. There's no cell signal at the cabin, so we had to drive a few miles back to Hwy 26 to get in range to call and get a correct code. Luckily, we were able to get a person on the phone who provided a different code that worked. - The cabin was a little dirty. The important parts, like the bathroom, sheets, towels, and kitchen, were clean, but along the floors, in the corners, and in spots around the stove and furniture, there was noticeable accumulation of dust, dirt, and grime. It needed a thorough cleaning. - The refrigerator is not working properly or under powered. We unloaded our cooler and the fridge barely kept things cool. We turned it up to max but that didn't help much. The freezer was a complete loss, nothing stayed frozen, our ice cream turned to soup.- The knives are dull and I could not find a sharpener. If you intend to do any food prep that requires sharp knives, bring your own or bring a sharpener.

Cute/Not Quite Right

The super positive: Perfect size cabin on a great lot with a magical walk down to a gorgeous spot on the river. Windows provided great morning and evening light.The not so great:My entry code did not work. There is no cellular service at the location but I was smart enough to log into the wifi from outside the cabin. A Meredith crew member spoke me through some entry attempts and ultimately someone needed to come out, as the lock was offline. It happens.The refrigerator was near room temperature when I arrived and I needed to go buy ice to keep temp sensitive items safe for consumption. When maintenance checked it the next day they claim the temperature was cool, which make sense with the bag of ice in it all night. So it goes...The wood stove door was missing during my stay. Not the worst thing imaginable. I was told an electrical fireplace was delivered, which I find funny, given that the main space outlets all had loose plugs during my stay. Television and other devices would intermittently turn off as cables fell out, leaving you to choose between light or a device. Meh.Great location and lot, river sounds, neighborhood homes are barely visible. My tips: bring ice to keep the fridge cool, an extension cord with power block to use all your devices in the main living space, save the wifi info in your phone so that you can call Meredith Lodging if assistance is needed getting in, verify amenities listed are available during your stay.

Cute, but not as large as listed or portrayed in pictures.

So...first the good. It was a cute A-Frame with nicely done woodwork for that rustic cabin in the woods feel. Beautiful surroundings and trees. Would have been beautiful in the snow. Ample parking, although a bit muddy in the parking area.Now the not so good. The ad says it's a 432 sq ft. cabin...ugh...no. It has a loft that you can see in the pictures (although not listed as a loft bedroom) but upon arriving you see the sign and lock on the loft gate that says, "not for guest use." Probably should let people know upfront about that. (Another review commented on that as well) Secondly, with a space on the lower floor (the only usable area) that is 16x24 outside, (384sq ft) and with the angled walls of an A frame creating 3-4 ft on each side of unusable space, you really get a living area of about 250 Sq ft. which is VERY small for two people without much with them. Add in a pet or two and it's cabin fever time! Throw in some snow and you have a recipe for "The Shining" sequel..."Redrum... Redrum! If it was spelled out a bit better on just how tiny this place is then travelers would know exactly what to expect. That's all. If it was summer, and you are single with your pet I imagine it would be great. The bathroom is 3ft wide (no joke, I measured) and while it's done beautifully with cool stonework and wood, it's as small as a bathroom in a 747. It does have a small shower stall though. It just got way too cramped overall. Booked 3 nights, stayed 1...Enough said.
