The Space:
Brace yourself for maximum quaintness! This adorable Victorian-era cottage is a freestanding structure nestled behind a larger main residence with access from the main road and a pathway leading around to your private entrance.
Please be mindful of the home the grounds are shared with and enjoy your stay!
Two entrances with sweet covered porches open onto a pleasant side yard separated from the main house by a picturesque pergola. This is a historical corner property to be admired, accented by a stone wall and decorative iron fence. It will capture your imagination as well as your heart.
The cottage has been appointed with your ease and comfort in mind. While you’ll find yourself surrounded by precious original details, like paneled wainscoting and well-tread, cognac-hued floors, you’ll find that contemporary furnishings and décor have been carefully selected to make you feel at home, and the bathroom and kitchen are beautifully updated.
You'll enter through the far right front door leading into the eat-in kitchen, a bright, sunny space with an entire wall lined with windows that shed light over a center island/breakfast bar with stool seating for 6. Enjoy preparing at-home meals on the granite countertops, accented by a white subway tile backsplash, white cabinets, and chic modern light fixtures. A suite of full-size appliances stands ready to serve, including a refrigerator/freezer, range with cooktop and oven, microwave, and dishwasher. Make free use of the blender, coffee maker, cooking utensils and chef’s knives. A door opens from the kitchen onto a small covered porch and the yard beyond, where you’ll find an outdoor dining table with six chairs beneath strings of festive party lights – perfect for enjoying fresh-air meals in fine weather.
A cozy corner of the yard has been transformed into a fire pit retreat that is shared with the residents of 232 N. Franklin Street, encircled by high-end cushioned outdoor furniture, including four chairs and two benches. You’ll be tempted to spend long, serene evenings here, watching the flames illuminate the faces of those you love.
Off of the kitchen, you’ll find an elegant bath with sleek modern finishes, offering a combination tub/shower and a large mirrored medicine cabinet above the sink vanity. The opposite direction from the kitchen is the delightful living room with rich original woodwork, where you can kick back and watch TV from the 3-person sofa or a comfy chair.
A bright corner bedroom on this level is cheered by windows on two walls and a French door leading to a sheltered porch with charming café chairs, where you can share a quiet cup of morning coffee with a loved one. This room is furnished with a King bed and a freestanding clothing rack that accommodates both hanging and folded garments.
Upstairs, two additional bedrooms and a bonus room await to provide restful respite.
In the first of these, a desk and chair have been added for the convenience of any guest who may be working or studying during their stay. They are accompanied by a king bed, clothing rack, and an antique dresser.
In the second bedroom, an extra-special surprise awaits. A curious half-sized door is cut into the wall, leading into a “secret” room tucked into the peak of the roof. Here, you’ll find plenty of pillows, two hassocks, and a rug where kids can play or nap, or where grown-ups can retreat for meditation or yoga. Back in the bedroom, a queen size bed awaits, along with a clothing rack and a TV.
Hotel-grade linens are professionally laundered after every visit.
