We rented this small house two days prior to arrival and it’s just what my wife, adult son and I needed. It was as advertised, clean and well provisioned. The realty company had corrected the issues noted by the prior renter and we thoroughly enjoyed being here.

Prime rental

The house is prime beachfront and centralized location. Very clean. Only issue we had was that there was sand in the sheets of one of the rooms. The house has alot of amenities and fantastic views. It's your own fault if you don't enjoy the stay.

It is directly on the beach and a quick walk to the ocean! We loved it. The weather was really cold and windy and we didn't mind being inside at all. We cooked dinners and there was plenty of cookware and everything. It was clean and nice. We appreciate this rental being available and would love to go back anytime! The area was nice and had a small-town feel. LOVED the Wright Bros museum too!

Home in need of several updates but has nice beach access

The house served its purpose for our stay and the size and space was perfect for our small family and 2 small dogs. The beach access was nice, but the house is very run down and in need of updates. For the price of the rental, I would not recommend it if you can find other availability. I waited late to find a rental and this was the only available house I could find. Ants were a constant battle on the kitchen counters and the beds were very uncomfortable. One bed was broken on our arrival. The hot tub was a nice addition. The kitchen supplies also are very outdated and several broken or not working and need replacing. The rental company did a good job of cleaning prior to our arrival.

Reviewer Comments: rental agency was excellent, house was clean, location was excellent, house is older and needs updating, one kid cut his foot open on a nail on the deck that i had to clean and suture, wood needs to be replaced, there was no garbage disposal, no recycling bins, i tossed ten gallons of plastic which about killed me, all the knives were dull, kitchen cabinets are a nite-mare to open and close, they all need new hinges and brackets, etc., otherwise a good vacation. nothing bad to say except it's just an old house but it was clean and we had a great time.

Charming little cottage

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I loved this little cottage. It’s cute and spacious enough on the inside, with an open floor plan and plenty of seating. But the outside is what made it for me! Several areas to hang out and enjoy the ocean view. Easy path to the beach. Others have commented about a soft/rotten spot in the floor of kitchen, which is still there. But we didn’t fall thru so that didn’t bother us :) . The kitchen is very well equipped, except only two small frying pans. There are plenty of extra beach chairs, umbrellas, a couple boogie boards, and corn hole in the ground level laundry room and foot lockers!!

Between the house and the water is a place to sit and get the sand out of your shoes. The house was clean and provided all the essentials. The roof top deck was great to have your morning coffee or tea, and look at the ocean or people and dog watch. In September, we wanted to open the windows, but no screens. The mattresses were old and uncomfortable. The two things I mentioned are just for suggestions. Our stay was still enjoyable. Beach Realty was very congenial and answered our questions in a timely manner. Within walking distance is a great place to have breakfast and happy hour with great food at a reasonable price.

Last minute Getaway!

Comfortable cottage with absolutely fantastic views of the beach & sunrises. with just a short walk to the beach. Well equipped kitchen and right in the midst of numerous restaurants & bars.I appreciate the efforts of the folks at Beach Realty for making this happen at such short notice. However, I did give the overall experience 4 stars and not 5. This was a partial week but bc it was such short notice, had to pay for the whole week since no time to contact the Owner. I think in this day & age of cell phones, could have at least sent a text message to the Owner. Even if it was too late, it was worth a try. Other than that, it was a great trip.

Extremely old and out dated

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This property is in serious need of updating. It smells terrible, everything is outdated, the back door doesn’t lock, the hot tub didn’t heat. We had to place a chair under the back door handle to feel any sense of security. The kitchen needs new cabinets, there were no supplies whatsoever. No games, no books, no magazines, nothing for cold or rain periods. Very disappointed with this property, it was in a great location, but has not had any care.

Cozy cottage in amazing location

Our family has been visiting OBX for years. Each year we rent a home in KDH. Serendipity is definitely our favorite home and location yet. We prefer smaller, cozier homes instead of the larger, multi-level homes. The interior of the home is one level; there are 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms which was perfect for our family of 4. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, dishes, coffee pots, microwave, oven, toaster, etc. There's a laundry room downstairs and the washer and dryer work well. There is central A/C which works fairly well. The location is amazing; directly on the beach and walking distance to several restaurants (Awful Athurs, Jolly Roger,) stores, and the pier. Our teenage daughters could easily walk down the beach to meet their friends at the pier every night. The house has a long boardwalk that goes right out to the beautiful, clean beach. There are 2 large decks with amazing views, which was perfect for the 4th of July fireworks, and a clean hot tub on the lower deck which was awesome. The lower level has an outdoor shower which works well. The interior of the house is casual and beachy with nice wood paneling and a fireplace (not usable for guests) but makes for cozy ambiance. There is Wi-Fi and Internet TV in the master bedroom and in the living room. There's a good amount of closet space as well. They allow up to 2 dogs. The management company is great. They're responsive and provide all pertinent information upon check in. Will be returning ASAP.

Serendipity Outer Banks Vacation

The home was cozy, just right with 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms for a family of 4 adults and a big German Shepherd. The kitchen was well equipped tho we ate out a lot. We brought an extra Frypan and a couple of sharp Knives cause a previous review said the existing knives were dull. Beach access was excellent, as were the sea views from the top deck. Might be a good idea to have a sunshade there. The Pathway to the beach needs some minor weeding. Furnishings slightly dated but the ambience was cozy and very comfortable. Bring your own handsoap, and extra toilet paper, and of course shampoo, conditioner etc. We also brought extra laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent, paper towel. Those supplies are minimal and not the best quality. Supermarkets and Target close by. The only main problem we had was the weather! unseasonable low 60s and very windy! needed a few warmer jackets. I would definitively go back to this rental, and would recommend it to friends.

Cozy oceanfront cottage

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Serendipity is a fine seaside one-level cottage, perfect for a couple and comfortable enough for a family of 4 who are comfortable with one another. The price you pay is for the proximity to the ocean, just steps away via a private beach walkway, and best viewed from a roof-level deck. The views of and sounds from the ocean are spectacular. The beds and bathrooms are comfortable enough for a renter to expect (our 11 year old son wanted us to purchase the brand of the comforter he used, that’s REALLY unusual for a rental), and the kitchen - while not large - is fully functional with room to prep and cook well. Downsides to Serendipity would include its late 70s wood panels making the space feel dark, the outside decks are a little small by today’s standards, the hot tub is outdated, and there is a little wood rot in the kitchen area near a barely-functioning dishwasher (best to hand wash your dishes). In short, if the place ever went up for sale we’d be interested as buyers to take it on and update it; but until then, we wouldn’t mind returning for another trip.

Beautiful beachfront home

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our stay at Serendipity was wonderful! The layout of the home was great for our group up to 6 people. We enjoyed how open the living space was, with plenty of seating. The top deck was also great in the morning and after the beach. The home being dog friendly was a huge plus for us as we were able to bring our dog to the beach on days that weren't too hot. The location of the home is excellent - can walk to Avalon Pier and Goombays and a short ride away from many other great places.On the down side, the home could use some more love. Some floor boards were cracking both inside and on the walkway to the beach. Upstairs furniture had random, unmatching cushions thrown on them. Beds were spacious but fairly uncomfortable. The hammock and outdoor shower were great to have, but we unfortunately used them little as they are located under the house.We also had a lot of trouble with the door code, having to call Beach Realty several times. They were great, but our issues persisted.Overall, we had a great stay and I would recommend it.

Disappointed

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house is in need of updating. The house is old but could use new furniture inside and out. The drip coffee pot lid was broken and the wall outlet was pulled out of the wall. There wasn't a fence. There was a recliner, but it was broken. The covered deck was nasty and there wasn't much view of the ocean. The best view was up in the crow's nest and the furniture was in need of updating up there also. There wasn't any screens on the windows at the deck and they were unlocked when we got there. The house inside wasn't very clean as far as the floors and dusting. I wouldn't hire these people to clean my house. We thought Roku was all we could get on the TV for three days until we discovered Spectrum We weren't familiar with that service and there wasn't any instructions telling us it was there. It's a shame to have such a nice place and not take care of it.

We appreciate your feedback, Gloria. It is true this home does not have a fence. And while the main floor is more level with the dunes, the sun deck offers a spectacular vantage point. All of which is evident from the listing photos. Outdated and unclean

The photos online do not really do this property justice. Looks better than it really is. Not happy with the price paid for what we got. First off, it is right on the beach which is great. Literally walk out back about 15 yards and you’re there. The areas outback are also ok, deck and upper deck. Aside from that there’s not much else positive to say. Beds old and uncomfortable, furniture musty and not very comfortable. Everything was very outdated and several things in need of repair. Repairs that had been done were janky looking and seemed thrown together. The AC couldn’t cool the home so in the afternoon it’s very hot and stale feeling. The house isn’t level so doors scrap the floor when you open them & the kitchen cabinets won’t stay shut. Appliances were all very outdated and the dishwasher when run gets the counter above extremely hot it melted food that was above it. There’s literally holes in the floor in 2 spots where you feel like you may fall through. Ants were visible and even saw some roaches. The home was not clean when we entered. Trash was found inside, dishes not clean, clothing from previous renters was found in a few spots. We paid for a linen service and they didn’t make the beds as advertised. So much else I could say but in general I would simply look elsewhere. Not sure if it was in the listing or not, but it’s on a very busy street directly behind a Target. My fault for booking and not knowing this, but it should be mentioned.

Perfect little get away

This property was the perfect little getaway for a cozy fall weekend. We came with my parents over a long holiday weekend and love the beach front views, hot tub and accessibility to the beach. The host made it very welcoming with little treats for us and our pup! Woods floors very a bit sandy but that’s expected when you’re right in the beach. Over all was cozy home!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location could not be better! The beach is literally steps away. The view from the crow’s nest was awesome. We watched the sunrise from there everyday and hung out there every evening. Serendipity is a quintessential older OBX cottage so if you want frills and fuss it’s not for you. Of course it could use updates, but it doesn’t need them. The view and location more than make up for it.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were very, very happy with this rental. Very neat and super clean on arrival. I'm baffled by reviews calling for updates, because it needs none. The rooms are bigger and better than they look in the photos, the furniture comfortable and cleans. Beds and bedding were comfortable, too. Bathrooms are plain but very clean and useable. We did not need to interact with the management, as check in was effortless and we found nothing amiss. Pretty much the perfect vacation property. The location is out of this world, just about 50 yards down a plank walk and you are there. No obstructions between the house and the beach. Extremely scenic and pleasant part of the beach, too, less crowded than to the north or south. If I search for a flaw, all I can think of is the nice hammock is in a strange place, next to the parking area under the house where I didn't want to hang out. That doesn't matter because the top deck is so perfect I didn't want to leave it. The kitchen has plenty of dishes etc but no condiments at all as in other rentals; and we expected to find extra garbage bags to use when we emptied the trash but there were none; so we bought some. Also I didn't see anything that looked like a dog run, but I took my dog to the beach anyway.Thanks for a perfect vacation.

The house is situated very close to the ocean with wonderful views, from the house, the porch and the hot tub! Unfortunately, the house was already occupied with mice - they enjoyed our bread - and we had to do some cleaning before we were comfortable there. Beach Realty was very helpful and responsive. We have worked with them for 2-3 years now and find they have great customer service.
