good value for the money
We stayed in the villa with our family.
Everything was Ok.The property was clean en well maintained. We got many towels .And in the kitchen everything was good, even sharp knives .The property had plenty room outside to sit and enjoy the sun whole day with a lot of privacy.
Although it was late in the season the swimmingpool was cleaned so we could use it.It was very chilly but nice to cool off.Close to the villa there is a busstop ,the bus brings you to the center of Cannes.
I would strongly recommend this villa to other guest .5 bedrooms in the surroundings of Cannes for a fair price.

Lovely house, set in a pretty garden.
We took our family to this property to celebrate my birthday. It was excellent for our needs. We took children ranging from 2 to 16, but they were all busy with the games and swimming pool. Nicolina was very helpful and kind to us while we were there and helped to make our week very enjoyable. xx
Very Little Luxury but lots and lots of rules!!!
Upon arrival we were met (not welcomed) by Antonio who speaks very little English. His primary role would appear to be to intimidate new guests as to the financial penalties associated with excessive electricity use. Antonio comes armed with a piece of paper containing a meter reading written in pencil. We had no way of verifying the content or monitoring our usage and therefore spent the holiday concerned about the potential impact this may have on the return of our sizeable deposit. Antonio's English did stretch to announcing that all young people liked to steal ( he looked meaningfully at the younger members of the party) and stressed he would be counting all the bed side lamps on check out (which, for some reason, he felt would prove irresistible to the 18-22 year old contingent in our group). Unfortunately, Antonio's communication skills do not allow him to explain anything useful and so, for example, we never got to use the pizza oven or BBQ.
The villa is basically sound but the owners cost cutting really takes the shine off it. The property sleeps 10 people but they provide 5 sun loungers which is ridiculous. Our party of 9 was forced to operate a rota system! Each guest is given an empty duvet cover,1 pillow and a towel. No additional bedding (presumably to discourage use of the air-con). It took us 2 days to get towels for the pool and they were only forthcoming after we had promised that we would not take them to the beach! There are no cushions on the outdoor seats around the table making evenings uncomfortable and no seating at all in the games room. Guests are required to use plastic tumblers by the pool but there isn't insufficient for 1 each and the cutlery is cheap and flimsy.
There are many many rules (more than we have ever encountered) including no lights around the pool after 9 pm. The owner emailed us during our stay when Antonio took photos early one morning whilst we slept, as he had noticed we had moved the table tennis table and left the umbrellas up. This made us feel a little uncomfortable and is typical of the owners formal, somewhat officious style of communication. Instead of calling, he got the agent to send me a text telling me to read his email!
There is little local information in the villa (which is usually provided) and, unusually, you have to clean the oven prior to departure despite having paid a fee for cleaners.
Overall we would not return. The owners need to be more friendly and less frugal.
Steve, Your review is a gross exaggeration and not a true reflection of the Super Quality our Villa provides.
Firstly I take exception to your assertion that Villa Carpe Diem is not Luxurious. It is and we have many happy guests who testify to this.
As VCD has A/C throughout, our summer electricity usage can peak at 10KW+ per hour, so reminding guests to switch it off after use is just common sense.
The rental rate you paid was the lowest of the summer season. For the equivalent pro rata per person rate equal to just 1 night in a nearby hotel you rented a week at VCD. This is great value and your expectations are just completely out of sync with the rental rate you paid.
When you requested more towels we responded in a timely fashion and provided them. Asking guests to take care of our towels and not take them to the beach, I see as an entirely reasonable request; evidently you do not.
The Six not Five Sun Loungers we provide is as stated on our Ad.
The ping pong table you moved to the lawn so it was thoroughly soaked overnight by our lawn irrigation system, I afraid did require ME (the owner NOT an agent) to intervene and remind you not to do this; as this stops the lawn irrigation from working and it also ruins the table.
The Sun umbrella's you left opened overnight is the cause of several being broken every season, when strong wind gusts catch and break them.
There are no rules about no lights by the pool after 9pm. The pool side night-time restriction is on making excessive noise after 11pm, something which is entirely reasonably within a residential area where VCD is located.
It seems that you have taken exception to following ANY of the house rules. These rules are just about requiring basic respect and care for our Villa and contents; they are not overly demanding, just sensible and pragmatic; designed to stop injury to guests, annoyance of our neighbours or breakage of the Villa contents due to misuse. You are the only guest to have ever complained about them.
Our €100 Cleaning charge covers 4 hours cleaning only. With a large 5 bed Villa we normally need to spend many more hours than this to render VCD to the immaculately clean and pristine condition we require. We simply ask for a little consideration and respect so as to NOT to leave us with MASSIVE end of stay cleaning task.
Such respect was completely absent during your stay and the Villa was left in terribly messy state after your departure. Nevertheless your deposit was refunded in full.
Lovely villa, great base for visiting the area
Fantastic time enjoyed by all of our family of 10 including our 2 small granddaughters. Accurate description of facilities, villa very clean & well maintained. The pool was beautiful, we had been a little concerned that the water wasn't heated but we soon discovered heating was definitely not necessary, once you were in the water was lovely! Having 2 little ones with us it was a great plus to have a pool area that was secure.
Part of the family had flown into Nice airport, the rest of us driving down so we had 2 cars during our stay. The drive area was big enough to park 2 cars comfortably and still have room to play, the automatic gates were a bonus. We alternated days at the villa with days out exploring the area always having a dip in the pool on our return and the older kids enjoyed the games room in the evening. Trips out included beaches, Lac de Saint Cassien, Marineland & Les Grottes de St Cezaire. The villa is in a good location, close to local amenities and the main travel routes if travelling further afield.
Re previous review on electricity usage - we didn't incur any extra costs and had the air con on in the bedrooms every night.
Communication with Ian was great and Antonio was most welcoming.
We spent some time watching the Olympics and the satellite tv was much appreciated by the grandchildren (& their parents) in the early mornings. Our only suggestion would be another sofa.
Eating areas were big enough to accommodate all our party both inside and out & it was lovely to have the choice.
A lovely family holiday in the South of France at Villa Carpe Diem!
Fantastic villa for a group, great pool, outdoor BBQ area and perfect location close to Nice
Pre-trip Ian was great at answering any questions quickly and providing really helpful info. A short 35 min drive from Nice centre, the Villa is located in a lovely residential area with a supermarket 5 mins away by car (Intermarché), boulangerie, Tabac etc 5 min walk from the Villa. When we arrived we were greeted by Antonio, a bubbly character who gave us a very detailed tour of the house - he spoke little, to no English so make sure someone in your group can translate or you may struggle with the finer details of what to do/not do.
The Villa is as the pics show, nice big pool with good sunbeds and parasols, an amazing outdoor BBQ area with a super handy shower, toilet, fridge for drinks by the pool, BBQ and clay pizza oven. The bedrooms were spacious, most with toilets/en-suite shower and/or bath, air con which was an absolute dream in the hot evenings. A big living room with UK Satellite TV that was hugely appreciated during the Olympics and a kitchen that catered for all needs.
The villa amenities were fantastic, table tennis, games room with fussball, cycling machine (wasn't touched obviously, it was a holiday after all), handy washing line outside for wet swimming gear, wi-fi etc.
We rarely left the Villa apart from making daily visits to the boulangerie so if you're looking for a group villa that you can hole up in and be very content, I'd definitely recommend this place. With a hire car, it was more than close enough to Nice/Antibes etc if you did want days out and about though.
Couple of minor tips/comments would be, taxis from Nice airport to the Villa were extortionate (over €100), uber was much cheaper around €60 so definitely use Uber. Antonio made quite a point about not abusing the gas/electric which left us a little on edge regarding over-using the the air con (not sure what was normal use/overuse), we weren't in unbearable heat so it wasn't a huge issue but for future groups that may have kids/need more aircon, make that a consideration to not be charged for extra use.
We definitely hope to visit again, thanks Ian for letting us use your lovely Villa!
Thanks for taking the time to submit a review, especially one so positive. It's very rewarding when we see all the hard work we have expended on creating Vila Carpe Diem is appreciated by our guests.
On the energy usage, we find we hardly ever need to charge an Excess energy charge, as our daily usage limit that's included is set a high level. We do however want to encourage our guests not to waste energy unnecessarily and in so doing respect our environment; hence the reason for the daily usage limit.
Thanks for being perfect guests!
The villa was fantastic. Lovely big ground area. Cracking swimming pool and outdoor kitchen. We stayed 8 adults and 4 children. Ian was a top guy in sorting us another cot. Supermarket was a 10 minute drive away.
