This gorgeous property is located up a dirt road, which at times can be very bumpy, as a lot of roads in Costa Rica are. But once you arrive, the property and view are so beautiful, the drive will seem like a distant memory. The pool is a good size, clean and shaded so the water is refreshing and crisp, a welcome reprieve from the hot Costa Rican sun. Most of the house can be left open and we only ran the AC at night in some bedrooms. Tons of fans in master bedroom which was nice. The kitchen is equipped with a decent array of dishes and utensils but no microwave, but that’s pretty typical I guess. Towels are lovely and plentiful, sheets are fine but pillows could use some refreshing. Lots of nice beach towels too.
A list of recommended restaurants and house check in dos and donts would also be helpful. But Laurie is a doll and answered all of our pesky questions very promptly. She arranged for the BEST surf instructor ever, and made dinner reservations for us and reserved our atv as well. (Hint... unless you don’t mind being really dusty, an SUV is a much better form of transportation around town.... although atv’s go faster over the rough dirt roads, you wind up covered in dust and feeling like you’ve been on “vibrate” mode when you arrive at your destination). We loved having an extra set of wheels for a day or two but overall we found that our Fortuner was the preferred mode of transport to/from the beach and Santa Teresa, which we traveled to almost nightly for dinner. So many good restaurants there!! Not much in playa Hermosa area but Santa Teresa is not too far at all. Loved being a little off the beaten path in Hermosa and felt very safe. Lots of gorgeous houses around under construction so we felt like we were in a hidden gem type of location. We had a power outage during early evening and afterwards the caretaker brought us many candles, rechargeable flashlights, and spotlights. Washer and dryer work great.
Lounge areas are mostly outside unless you want to hang out in your bedroom, but they are covered and shaded and remain comfortable even during the middle of the day. You can hear the surf, even from the elevated location, and you definitely can check out the conditions from the deck. Binoculars and yoga mats are a must. Bug spray and sunscreen too of course. But mostly it’s just a delightful house and property, beautifully built and maintained in a gorgeous location as close to paradise as one can get.
