First, my apologies to the guests who feel that they were misled. Over 70 bookings both here on VRBO and another home-sharing platform with 100% positive reviews, this negative one is a first for us. Second, thank you for this opportunity to address the review. There was no mud UNTIL the guests violated the rule: “Do not drive past the rocked driveway if there is rain or the ground is wet.” They clearly admit they drove (after a day of sustained heavy rain) on the restricted section: “My husband drove to the cabin…he wasn’t going to walk in the dark while it was raining and cold outside after working 26 straight hours.” This violation caused extensive ruts. And if one chose to wear a $275 boot on the ruts, slow walking would result in a longer walk that normally is a short, pleasant, and relaxing stroll. This rule was repeated to them before their booking was confirmed, and the response was: “That is no problem at all.” Nothing in this listing has been updated, other than posting 3 new pictures to show part of the damages they caused. We do an inventory before/after each booking. When we discovered that certain items were missing, they denied removing the items. Further inspection revealed that 13 collector license plates we intended to decorate the log cabin were also taken from our property! There were kitchen rags and paper towels in plain view, yet they chose to clean the stove and oven with a white bathroom towel! They stayed 3 extra days but contrary to written agreement, they did not pay the agreed amount. When asked, they promised to pay when they return on a future stay. Repeated requests to collect the $205 they owe were ignored. When VRBO forfeited their $200 deposit for the damages, they threatened to ruin our reputation via a negative review. There was not a single complaint BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER THEIR STAY, until this deposit was forfeited. We showed them nothing but warm welcome, kindness, generosity, and hospitality. In fact: here is a text from them: “Omg I just got here and you have a little slice of heaven!! It is a beautiful place. Thank you so much for the goodies you left for us, that was very sweet of you.” To other hosts, we hope this will help you protect yourselves. To potential guests, please mention “WE ARE NOT PIGS AND WILL NOT TAKE WHAT IS NOT OURS” in your booking requests and your first night is complimentary. This offer is for the next 3 booking requests.

Minnie, everything about this property is disclosed in the listing, including the rules, which I repeated to you before you finalized the booking. I even offered a no penalty cancelation. I only saw you once the entire time that you and your husband were there, and that was to warmly welcome you, to surprise you with goodies, which you consumed. There was no issue before, during, and after your stay. In fact, when you checked out, you sent me this text: "Good morning. We left, thanks for letting us stay; it was great and peaceful." I want to be nice and kind, but I cannot let you disrespect our property, other property owners, and future guests who deserve a great stay. Just read the reviews from other guests. Your lies don't deserve to be dignified. You violated the rules, you willfully walked in the house with sticky and dirty shoes, pictures of evidence were sent to you. You purposely switched the gel mattress and the box spring to hide the evidence of what looked like fecal matter/body fluids which you claimed to be vomit. The attempt to hide this damage was purposeful and willful on your part, not a mistake. These mattresses had to be destroyed and replaced! You were NEVER charged extra, but you were penalized as a result of your willful violation of the rules. This cabin is fully furnished, a home away from home. Guests need only to bring what they want. In your case, you brought an attitude that you can do as you pleased, and chose to cause significant damage. You were given friendly suggestion to close the doors to prevent pollen and flies from coming in, since you said you were going to cook. There was no mold in the very clean refrigerator. The AC has no smell. However, YOU left a terrible smell in the entire cabin, emanating from the bodily waste matters that you dumped onto the gel mattress! Even after an entire day of leaving all the windows open, the smell consistent with drugs lingered. Friendly advice: READ BEFORE YOU BOOK. AND BE RESPECTFUL OF PROPERTY THAT IS NOT YOURS. To potential guests: Please mention “WE ARE NOT PIGS AND WILL BE RESPECTFUL OF OTHERS' PROPERTY” in your booking requests and your first night will be 50% off.
