Bryn Cottage has it all...
Close to some of the most beautiful wild surfing beaches of North Cornwall (Newquay, Fistral, Watergate, Mawgan Porth, Constantine, to name a few!), this former barn has been converted to a cosy and characterful holiday retreat.
* Discount of over 20% for weekly bookings - calculated and included in your rental price.
Occupying the upper ground floor of this traditional Cornish stone building, Bryn benefits from stunning views across unspoilt countryside. The raised patio terrace is furnished with table and chairs and is a perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying the sun, peace and beauty of the Cornish countryside. At night, the lights of Bodmin can be seen from here, twinkling across the valley in the far distance. Sitting out under the Cornish night sky is an absolute must at Bryn. Away from light pollution, the stars are an incredible sight, as is the occasional comet. Bats and owls are frequently spotted in the evenings, while buzzards are common sights around the area during the day time.
Bryn has a garden with large lawn & off road parking. This adjoins a small area of lawn that belongs to the cottage downstairs. Please note: part of our lawned area has an unfenced drop down to the drive.
Steps lead up to the raised patio and front door. The cottage is comfortably and tastefully furnished throughout, with close attention to detail and the visitor's every need. In keeping with the charming character of the barn conversion, there are beams throughout and an open fireplace in a stone hearth.
With the accommodation all on the first floor of the building, all rooms have views across the private garden, open valley or attractive cottage courtyard. Bryn sleeps four in two bedrooms: the master bedroom has a king-sized bed and beautiful wooden headboard. The second bedroom is twin-bedded. For guests with infants, we have a travel cot (please bring your own bedding - mattress size: 100 X 70), high chair, bath slip mat, night lights and toddler crockery and cutlery. Please let us know if you require the cot and high chair so we can get them out for your stay.
The spacious bathroom has a bath and electric shower over. The hallway has space for boots/shoes and coat hanging and there is a large Ordnance Survey map of the area on the wall, to help you plan your local outings!
The cosy lounge has a galley-style kitchen to one side, separated by the feature stone hearth and chimney breast. With comfortable soft furnishings, the lounge is a sunny and cosy space for relaxing with a book, a glass of wine and a roaring log fire in the colder months. A dining table and chairs are positioned by one of the large sunny windows, so you can enjoy the lovely views whilst eating.
The kitchen is well-equipped, to provide you with all the convenience you might have at home. Basic household essentials are also supplied (tea, coffee, sugar, kitchen linen, kitchen roll, washing-up liquid, soap, and so on) so that you don't have to bother with all those necessary but tedious purchases when you arrive.
The cottage is equipped with a television, DVD and video players, music centre and a selection of films and CDs. We also have a selection of boxed toys, games and puzzles for our younger visitors, as well as books, leaflets and maps about things to do in the local area and wider afield in Cornwall.
Bryn is close to the tiny hamlet of St Wenn and the small (but very well equipped!) town of St Columb Major. The coast is a short drive over rolling countryside, with the attraction of famous locations such as Padstow, Rock, Newquay and Port Isaac (famous location for the filming of 'Doc Martin') and home of the TV character 'Poldark'.
There is so much to do in Cornwall; being in a central location our visitors to Bryn Cottage are spoilt for choice! The popular Eden Project is only 10 miles away, while famous beaches and seaside locations of the North Coast are less than 15 minutes by car. The bustling towns of Wadebridge, Bodmin and Truro are just 9, 13 and 19 miles respectively. King Arthur's famous Tintagel Castle is a short drive and well worth a visit, both for its history and stunning views. The beautiful quayside location of Port Isaac (home for 'Doc Martin') is in the same direction and just 17 miles away.
Another famous spot for filming is the charming stately home, 'Prideaux Place', just outside Padstow. A mere 12 miles from the cottage, Prideaux Place has been to filmset location for the Rosamunde Pilcher film: 'Coming Home', as well as other productions made for German television such as 'Flowers in the Rain', 'The End of Summer', 'The Long Weekend' and 'The Red Dress'.
The Tate Gallery and Hepworth Museum are both in beautiful St. Ives and a short drive away is the quaint seaside town of Port Isaac, where the British series 'Doc Martin' is filmed. The pretty Lost Gardens of Helligan are worth a visit, as is the Cornish Maritime Museum at Falmouth.
Cornwall abounds with historical heritage sites and gardens, inclusing: Pendennis Castle, Lanhydrock House, St Mawes Castle, Cotele Tudor House, Glendurgan Garden, Trelissick Garden and Trerice Elizabethan Manor House.
The beaches are of course Cornwall's top attraction! The county offers some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. They are many and varied, ranging from quiet, sandy coves to the magnificent and famous surfing beaches such as Newquay and Watergate Bay. Surfing lessons are available from most of the large beaches and many beaches have additional facilities such as cafes, bars, restaurants and life guard care. Rock pooling and beach fishing are also popular activities, as is kayaking and beach kite-surfing.
Walking and cycling opportunities are plentiful in this area. The well known Camel trail, just 9 miles from Bryn Cottage, is a dis-used railway track that runs alongside the River Camel from Bodmin to Padstow, via Wadebridge. It runs through 11 miles of beautiful and unspoilt countryside, and is a haven for cyclists, walkers, runners and bird watchers. Although the surface is ideal for cycling, it is also level and smooth, making it suitable for prams and wheelchairs. Cycles of all types can be hired from a number of centres at Wadebridge, Bodmin and Padstow.
Cornwall is also a great holiday destination for families with children. Aside from the great beaches and quays with crabbing and rock-pooling fun, there are a great many other attractions for youngsters, including: nearby Crealy Adventure Park, Flambards Adventure Park at Helston, and The National Seal Sanctuary (also at Helston). Newquay is a short drive from Bryn Cottage and its attractions include: Newquay Zoo, Dairyland Farm World, Blue Reef Aquarium, Lappa Valley Steam Railway and Springfields Pony Centre.
Further afield, Penzance and the far west of Cornwall to Land's End are just over an hour's drive away. Here you can visit the stunning spot of St Michael's Mount and the amazing Minack open air theatre on the cliff edge at Porthcurno.

We bought Bryn Cottage back in 2004, having spent a number of happy holidays there. We live near London but try to get to Cornwall as often as we can. For us, it is a real home-from-home and we hope you will feel the same when you visit.
Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
Bryn Cottage is in a perfect location - a good way into Cornwall yet close to both North and South coasts. We have close access to both the main A30 and the A395 Atlantic Highway, meaning we can easily access most parts of Cornwall.
The cottage is in the middle of the countryside in an amazingly beautiful and peaceful spot. For us, it provides a real escape from busy city life - and we hope it will do the same for you.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
We are close enough to the beautiful beaches to reach them in a short drive, yet far enough away from the busy roads to feel at peace even at high season.
Our favourite things about Bryn Cottage are the absolute peace and quiet, the green valley views and the amazing star-lit skies at night, far from any light pollution.
