Sweet Breeze is a spacious open-air hillside villa in Tobago, set in an acre of tropical gardens above Mount Irvine with wide panoramic views across green valleys to Buccoo Bay and the reef beyond.
It is a traditional Caribbean home designed to work with the climate, the landscape and the rhythms of island life.
The house and its' furniture were handcrafted in natural wood, with louvres, cabinetry, kitchen units and beds made by a Tobagonian joiner.
High ceilings, wraparound verandas and opening doors & louvres allow trade winds to flow through the rooms, creating a naturally cool and relaxed living environment.
From the verandah and private pool you can watch the light change across the hills and sea. Mornings begin with birdsong and evenings often end with spectacular sunsets over the Caribbean. Most daily life moves easily between indoors and outdoors — reading in the shade, dining outside, or simply enjoying the views and breeze.
Although the villa feels private and elevated, it is only a 5–7 minute drive to Mount Irvine, Grafton and Turtle beaches, as well as restaurants, a small supermarket and local amenities. A car is recommended due to the hillside location.
Living spaces
The 3,000 sq ft villa offers generous indoor-outdoor living. The lounge, kitchen and dining areas open directly onto the large verandah where many guests spend most of their time relaxing or eating outdoors.
The master bedroom with ensuite bathroom opens onto the verandah and overlooks the hills and sea. Two additional double bedrooms upstairs share a balcony with far-reaching views and cooling breezes.
Outside, a private infinity-edge pool sits beside the deck, surrounded by butterflies, hummingbirds and tropical planting. The garden includes seasonal fruit trees — mango, avocado, banana and citrus — along with flowering plants and visiting birdlife.
The character of the house
Sweet Breeze is an authentic open-air Caribbean home rather than a sealed modern villa.
• The house uses ceiling fans and natural breezes instead of air-conditioning
• Windows and louvres are designed to remain open to airflow and views
• You will hear natural island sounds such as birds, tree frogs and distant village life
• Because the house is open to the climate, occasional insects or small wildlife may appear, as in most traditional Caribbean homes
Guests who enjoy nature, space, views and outdoor living usually love this style of stay and many return regularly. Guests seeking hotel-style interiors or fully air-conditioned accommodation may prefer a different type of property, and we prefer to be clear so everyone enjoys their holiday.
Tobago’s climate is warm year-round and the villa is designed to stay comfortable through natural ventilation. Most of the time the hillside position and trade winds provide a pleasant breeze, however on occasional very still or unusually hot days (as can happen anywhere in the Caribbean) the house may feel warmer, particularly in the early afternoon. Ceiling fans are provided in all rooms and evenings are typically cooler.
Location & exploring Tobago
Sweet Breeze is an excellent base for exploring the island — beaches, rainforest walks, birdwatching, snorkeling, surfing at Mount Irvine, boat trips to Bucoo Reef and the Nylon Pool, and local restaurants are all within easy reach.
After a day out, the villa offers a relaxed place to return to: sunset on the verandah, dinner outdoors and a slower pace of evening life.
