Everything worked out great for us at this unit. We do a lot of surfing trips, and every location has its shortcomings - something is missing in the kitchen, the location is not as expected, not really very clean, not enough hot water, live animals in the bedrooms (called alligators by my wife), etc. But this place has everything, both major and minor, in place. When we mentioned a few very minor challenges, Steve, who is right next door, took care if it right away. I wish we could have asked more of him, but there was nothing required! Most important, this place is CLEAN. Thank you. My only, rather trivial, suggestion would be to have more absorbent, coarser door mats on the way in the door for wet, sandy feet. If the property has any drawbacks, it would be lack of a deck. There is a back yard, but we did not use it. Thanks Steve. Be careful out there!
I booked this house with the expectation that it would be a house for my family that gathered from different parts of the world. Once we walked into the place we were very happy with the size and very happy with all the items to make it feel even more like home. We were able to have old and familiar home cooked meals (we haven't had a family dinner in 5 years). We laughed, loved, and cried in a home that wasn't ours but felt like it was.
Every home/family has it's imperfections and if you are overly picky then go to a resort where you have the right to complain. This house did exactly what I hoped.....bring my family together for the first time in years.
Thank you Steve for all your help in making this happen.
This is a great house, so close to a beautiful beach. The house everything needed for a great stay. The kitchen is very well equipped & includes everything needed. The beds are very comfortable and have good quality sheets and towels. We would happily stay there again.
Great location on the North Shore. One drawback is that it’s located right on Shark’s Cove so it’s a small trek to the beach area, this didn’t both us but could bother anyone who wants direct access to the sandy beach area. The 3 bedrooms are spacious and the kitchen huge, I particularly loved the outdoor shower, perfect for after a surf. Although it’s located close to Kamehameha Hwy there was very little road noise and the gated property is very secure with ample parking. It’s a short walk to breaks like Log Cabins and Rock Piles but if you’re going to Pipe or Gas Chambers I’d ride the bike or drive.
Overall a great spot on the NS.
Our family of four stayed at the Mauka House for 8 nights in March to celebrate Spring Break Hawaii style! The house is on the ocean-side of the Kam Hwy and is about 60 yards to the bluff overlooking the ocean. There are actually 3 houses on this gated property(one is the owner's), but we rarely saw any of the other guests. The rental is located just past Waimea Bay and Foodland grocery store is within easy walking distance.
The house itself has three bedrooms, each with a Queen-size bed, and one full bath. There is a small patio off of the 3rd bedroom though, that includes an outdoor hot-water shower. Rather liberating to bathe with the sound of traffic going by on the highway! This small patio includes a full-size washer and dryer as well as a tabletop gas grill. A table with 4-6 chairs to include umbrella is set up on the grass if you would like to eat outside.
This house doesn't come with all of the 'bells and whistles', but it definitely suits all of your needs. Bicycles, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, and surfboards are all available for your use. Shark's Cove is less than 1/2 mile away, Ke Iki beach is about 200 yards in the other direction, and Pipeline is no more than 1 mile farther up the road. When in Hawaii, time best spent outside exploring paradise. Would we stay there again? Absolutely!
From the easy reservation process, to our arrival and departure, Steve was welcoming, friendly and very helpful.
The home was clean and ready for our stay. 3 good sized bedrooms, well stocked kitchen and all wood floors made our stay comfortable and ez to maintain. Lots of water toys too! Our first morning we found the nearby beach with huge waves and not safe for swimming although it was beautiful visually. \We found many local beaches such as Malekahana which were great for surfing, boogie boarding and just playing. Towards the end of our stay we discovered Sharks Cove, VERY close to the house which was absolutely a must see. When empty , the tide pools are wonderful for the kids, be careful and watch for the surf that can fill the whole area!
Definitely walk to the nearby Foodland for groceries and the food trucks are excellent with very reasonable prices.
We very much enjoyed our stay and want to emphasize our host, Steve, was very accommodating, friendly and responsive to any and all concerns/questions we had.
