We live in Alaska, but wanted to show my sister-in-law from Hawaii a unique Alaskan experience, and boy did this do it! Granite Point is absolutely fantastic. This is roughing it without the rough. We were lucky with 4 days of incredible weather, kayaking, whale-watching from the big stump overlooking Resurrection Bay, and just relaxing off the grid, with a view that just kept pulling us outside. This is NOT a bare bones cabin, it's a comfortable, fully equipped home--granted you do use an outhouse, but so what? It's Alaska! The stairs up to the cabin are a workout, but we carried in way too much food and drink. We'll be back every year and this will be our must take visitors to experience.
We spent two nights here and I wish we could have stayed longer. The lodge is absolutely beautiful and so clean. It's absolutely private, too. Pepper Creek Cabin is down on the beach, but you don't hear or see that cabin from up on the cliff. Honestly, there aren't words to describe how incredible this place is. The views from the living room are breath taking. We enjoyed dinner and a fire out on the cliff. Definitely take the kayaks out and paddle around! It's so peaceful. We saw eagles and a sea otter. No whales, but it sounds like lots of other people see them out there! We loved talking to Jeff and hearing more about how he built the lodge. This is truly a special place. There are so many thoughtful details, too, like the great coffee and snacks! Hot showers, fluffy towels and very comfortable beds. Thanks for sharing it with us, Jeff!
Jeff isn't kidding when he says to be ready to haul your stuff! The steps are steep, so pack in backpacks not rolling suitcases. The view at the top is absolutely worth the trip up the stairs!
Wow! If you want seclusion, beautiful views, comfortable place to stay, and a unique Alaska experience, this is a perfect spot! It really is quite the engineering feat. Aside from needing to use the outhouse outside, everything in the cabin is so comfortable and convenient (hot showers, running water, comfortable beds and couches, huge windows, kitchen appliances, outdoor grill with everything you need, and a great supply of pantry items, spices, and drinks, including GOOD coffee). It rained for a good chunk of our stay but we still enjoyed the time overlooking the water (saw one sea otter just below) and reading and talking in the cabin. In good weather the fire pit is great. We enjoyed talking with Jeff about how he built it, too. Highly recommended! I would not bring young children because of the cliffs and all the steps, though.
My family of 5 stayed in Jeff's Granite Point Lodge for three nights. We will have lasting memories of cooking smores out by the fire overlooking Resurrection Bay. The kayak trips to Humpy Cove and Thumb Cove were breathtaking. The lodge itself is well constructed and save the hike to the outhouse, all the creature comforts were available to us. We grilled salmon one night as we watched the whales and sea otters and listened to the chirping eagles overhead.
Plan on quite a workout getting your luggage and supplies up and down to and from the lodge. I recommend bringing boots or water shoes to wear while kayaking.
We paid extra for the water taxi to give us a tour of the area. They took us to a nearby rookery and to the mouth of the bay where we saw a pod of approximately 10 humpback whales hunting. It was an incredible sight and sound.
I highly recommend Granite Point Lodge and it's owner Jeff.
I have two little children, 7 and 4 and we were looking for an authentic Alaska vacation with a few more luxuries than typical (shower and power). This place is truly one-of-a-kind. We took the train from Anchorage to Seward and then a boat right to the house. Right when we pulled onto the shore we knew we picked the right spot. The house was perfect, and they even had a bunch of items we forgot (hot chocolate!). We took the kayaks out every morning to fish and whale watch. We caught 100's (really, 100's) of delicious rock fish, I pulled in a nice size halibut (yup, from the kayak) and whales and dolphin's swimming right next to us was a daily occurrence. We hiked up the stream many times and other than boats coming in and out of the bay, no one was around for miles. The cell phone booster was also a bonus (I had never cleaned a halibut, so I was able to watch a youtube video).
Everything about this place is amazing... you can't go wrong.

Like you're climbing up into a tree house, and then you arrive at this amazing lodge perched on a cliff! We set up our food in the kitchen, grabbed a brew and returned to the beach for some horseshoes and paddling. Back to the lodge for an outdoor campfire and vast views of the bay. Hung out, relaxed, and watched whales. Dope surround sound system in the lodge. Great hike up through the woods- found a lake! Fantastic spot. Highly recommend this gem on the bay. The water taxi ride adds another adventure!
