THE BEST HOUSE ON THE LAKE! AMAZING VACATION!
WOW, WOW WOW! OUR EXPECTATIONS WERE FAR EXCEEDED WITH THIS HOUSE, IT IS SIMPLY GORGEOUS, THE VIEWS ARE INCREDIBLE, AND THE STAFF ON SITE WERE SO KIND AND WONDERFUL. HAVING A HEATED POOL AND HOT TUB WAS A SUPER PLUS AS IT DID GET COLDER AT NIGHT, THE PROPERTY MANAGER ON SITE ALWAYS EAGER TO PLEASE. ANYTHING WE NEEDED...A CALL TO THE TUK TUK FOR A RIDE INTO TOWN, OR TAKING THE POOL COVER OFF, HEATING THE SPA, ETC. THE FURNISHINGS AND DECOR ARE GORGEOUS IN THIS HOUSE. WE SIMPLY HAD AN AMAZING VACATION, WE DID TRAVEL TO MOST OF ALL THE OTHER VILLAGES, AND SAN MARCOS WAS OUR FAVORITE, AND I AM 100% SURE I CHOSE THE BEST HOUSE ON THE LAKE!!!
Thank you so much for your generous review. We will be sure to pass on your favorable remarks about our staff to them!
The Atitlan rental exports made accommodations accordingly. I had to make cancellations with tours and meals because my son got sick. Andrea Helped as best she could.
Edgar looks after the home and asks if we need anything. We had the pleasure of meeting Maria who made two meals for us. Both are wonderful people who are helpful in wanting you to enjoy your stay.
Exceptional house and location
Five of us adults crossed the lake to Chirij ju' yu, a trip we were all looking forward to. The boat arrived at the pier allowing us to take in a 360 degree view of breathtaking volcanoes, the immense lake, surrounding pueblos tucked into the mountains and above us, the huge white house we had rented. We stood there in awe at where we were!
We followed the steps up to the main house, admiring the beautiful gardens, the sparkling pool and finally the lovely house. What a beautifully appointed work of art it is! The rooms are thoughtfully furnished and spacious, inviting each of us to be surprised at every turn by an enchanting piece of local art or Guatemalan artifact. The beds were comfortable, bathrooms roomy and we easily settled in.
The goal was relaxation. We kayaked on the lake, swam in the heated pool, lounged in the sun and under umbrellas, cooked our meals, relaxed in the living room and then repeated the above activities multiple times. We enjoyed an evening out in San Marcos at Fe Restaurant, but otherwise ate all our meals in the house. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking implements and we even grilled corn on the barbecue.
Begrudgingly we packed our bags as the essence of the place had lulled us into a gentle relaxation. The house, the views, the lake, the tropical rains, everything was magical. Even as we were leaving we were talking about when we would return. All of us highly recommend a long stay at Chirij ju' yu...
Second time as good as the first!
This house is like a small paradise! This is the second time that our family has rented the house, and we had another marvelous trip. The property is well-maintained, and the on-site staff are very helpful. We used the heated pool almost every day, looking out across the stunning lake. The walk into town is about 10 minutes (definitely up a step hill), and a great way to start your day.
Little slice of heaven
This home is very beautiful in every respect....furniture, amenities, staff, location...sit in the jacuzzi and stare across the lake to the distant volcanoes, paddle out on the water and go for a swim, walk into town for dinner....you will return home completely relaxed!
Found our new favorite place in all of Central America!
You cannot rave about this place, or the region, enough. The house was fantastic and Antonio and Edgar were top notch stewards for the property. Antonio was also our personal tour guide for several adventures, including tours of many local communities and climbing Vulcan San Pedro. They both speak a little English but if you can communicate with them in Spanish, it opens up a whole new arena of options. Most of the region speaks their local Mayan dialect or Spanish; it's a plus for them if you can speak to them in their language but you can get by everywhere around the lake with English. We had Maria come and cook breakfast for us every day and dinner one night and the food was other worldly. I spend a significant amount of time in Central America and this was by far one of my best trips. You definitely need to go see San Juan, San Pedro, and Santiago de Atitlan. You need to go see Edwin at Happy Tacos in San Marcos. You also need to kayak over to Hotel Jinava (you can see it form the house) and have the Mojitos and chicken fajitas; both are the best around! But by all means, spend as much time as you can/want lounging at the property. The grounds are spectacular; the pool, jacuzzi, fire pit and random sitting areas must be enjoyed. Blaine was fantastic to work with in setting everything up and super responsive. We coordinated a car and driver and boat and driver to get us to and from the airport; highly recommended as a car is not needed. You can Tuk Tuk or boat everywhere, or take a nice walk. We're already planning a return trip back! Our one universal recommendation...BRING EAR PLUGS or run a fan or use a noisemaker as our friends did! Do this and you won't hear a thing. Although the location and setting are perfect, it's right against the road so road noise can be a bit loud. We had seen this in previous reviews but having plenty of travel experience in Central America dictated that we bring them anyways (dogs and chickens don't ever sleep). I toyed with writing an awful review to ensure the place would be available any time we wanted it because IT IS THAT FANTASTIC. Thank you Blaine and Stephanie for one of the most relaxing and recharging vacations we've had in a very long time!
