The Dairy Barn--A Family Friendly Cabin That Sleeps 12! Pets Allowed!
Welcome to Rock Hill Cottages! We now have the Dairy Barn and the Gate Cottage (separate listing--VRBO#3225011 available for short term rental!
The Dairy Barn is an old dairy barn converted to a full-service cottage that can sleep up to 12 people! Plus, we now allow pets~ up to two dogs! If you have more than that, please contact me for additional pricing.
Kick back and relax in this calm, remote, quaint space. The Dairy Barn is located a half mile down the driveway in the middle of the barnyard. Our farm is at the very end of a dead-end road, with little to no traffic. Once you are here, you can put your feet up and relax, with no passersby, no streetlights. Have a weekend or more away from it all, whether to read, write, rest, hike, fish, kayak from or to our creek--there are endless things to do, or do nothing at all.
We have two kitchens in this space. The kitchens are not paired down to basics such as salt and pepper; we include many spices for cooking, olive oil, coffee, coffee filters, sugar, flour, some canned goods (use some/leave some) napkins, paper towels, and if there is anything you have forgotten, please just ask and I am sure we will have it!
***One thing worth noting is that we do not have a dishwasher. You may want to bring paper plates and plastic ware, but we will also try to have some on hand for you.
There is a large outdoor, screened porch, which is likely where you will be the most during your visit! It has a kitchen, pizza oven, fireplace and 7-foot porch swing to relax on.
Inside the first floor there is a bathroom with laundry, and a bedroom with a queen bed and a bunk bed, each level having a full-size mattress. So that room sleeps 6 people.
The second floor has another kitchen, with a queen and king bed, and a sofa. There is a large water-trough bathtub in the living area of the room, with a bathroom having a sink and toilet.
Outdoors is where the fun begins! We have a sauna, hot tub/cool tub depending on the season, an outdoor shower, a hammock, trampoline, and a child's play area with a slide and hay fort!
Additionally, Bradshaw Creek is running through the property, which ties into the Elk River, so fishing, swimming, and kayaking are all available to you. Or just put your feet in the water and throw sticks to your dogs!
Our aim is to have guests feel as if they are staying at a friend's home! The entire house is available to guests, with the exception of an owners' closet. Guests have full access to the entire 150 acres to explore.
The property contains 150 acres and is a working farm with cows, horses, pigs, chickens, livestock a guardian dog, and five outdoor cats. The owners' home is also on the property, out of eyesight from the cottage, which we will often be staying in.
We let the guests lead the way with interaction from the owners/caretakers. We usually are on the property, but if we are away, we will have a caretaker on the farm to provide assistance if needed. We will always be available to guests by phone or internet for any questions or needs.
The owners have a USDA license to sell their home-grown pork from Red Waddle Pigs, and beef from Angus/Wagyu steers. Please let us know if you are interested in purchasing some while you are here!
The pork products include pork chops, Boston butts, mild ground sausage, hot ground sausage, and ribs.
The beef products include chuck roasts, ground beef in 2-lb packages, osso buco, short ribs, sirloin, and rib eyes.
The meat is available but selection varies depending on when we last butchered the pigs/cows.
Farm fresh eggs are free to guests! However, during the winter the hens' production declines drastically.
Also, we have lots of herbs in the gardens, and guests are welcome to those as well. During the summer months, guests can help themselves to whatever vegetables they want from the garden!
As of June, 2025, we now have FAST FIBER internet, with upload and download speeds of over 300!
**Please note that we do not have a dishwasher, so if you would like to bring paper plates and maybe plasticware that would be encouraged. We will also try to have some on hand just in case.
***Also, please realize that we are out in the country, and there will be bugs. We spray to keep them at a minimum, but our biggest visitors are the lady bugs and stink bugs. The house is very old and they continue to find their way inside.
One final suggestion. If you bring a dog or dogs, please keep them on a leash when they are outside because we have free range chickens and 5 cats. We know accidents can happen, but we LOVE our animals and don't wish for them to be harmed. :)
