My recent stay was fine, but the check-in process was by far the worst part of the experience.
Before I could receive check-in information, I was required to provide a photo of my signature on paper, the front and back of my driver’s license, the credit card used for booking, and selfies holding both my license and credit card. While I understand the need for identity verification, the process felt excessive and disorganized.
Communication was also frustrating. I booked through Expedia, but Big Fish Rentals only communicated through VRBO. When I checked my VRBO account, there were no messages, yet I was simultaneously being contacted by three different phone numbers from Big Fish Rentals, all requesting the same documents. To make matters worse, no one would answer the phone when I tried calling for clarification.
What bothered me most was the inconsistency. The company was more than willing to take additional money for early check-in and late check-out before my identity was verified, but would not allow me to access the property until completing an extensive verification process.
The condo itself was enjoyable, but the check-in and communication experience created unnecessary stress and left a poor first impression.
