Don't. Shabby, substandard bungalow in serious need of maintenance

It started badly. It took 4 attempts to get check in details via 3 different people. Then, when we arrived at the admittedly charming location, things unravelled further. the very first thing that hit us was a fusty smell of neglect as we opened the door. We do not think the description or the website is accurate. Far from being - as promised - a charming holiday cottage with a warm and cosy atmosphere - it is a rundown, cramped, shabby bungalow in desperate need of maintenance. The woodwork is cracked and chipped, there are cracked tiles and window panes, and ingrained stains around the tiles. The promised 2 bathrooms are tiny sordid rooms with a shower tray squeezed in. The toilet in the first one didn't flush when we arrived, my husband managed to fix it. The toilet seat wobbles when used. The kettle works intermittently. The cooker in the tiny kitchen is unusable unless you are a midget or a contortionist as it is squeezed into a corner against a wall beneath a cupboard - it can only be accessed diagonally. Something tripped the power while we were sleeping so there was no hot water in the morning. Again, my husband fixed it. There was no bedding in bedroom 2 and bedroom 3 led off it and could only be accessed via it. I could go on, at length, but lets just say we left almost immediately and are still pursuing a refund.

Hello Deborah, We are sorry to hear that the property did not meet your expectations.Three days before check in you were sent the pin location for the property, as well as a video from the owner giving you a tour of the cottage. You were also advised that one day before check inn you would be contacted by the owner on where the key would be located. You were also given the property owner’s phone number.You were contacted early afternoon the day before your arrival for the location of the key.The property is a well-loved cottage that barely stays closed, occupied by the owners as a holiday home during winter, and it is rented out during summer months. The season from May almost full until September. The day before you arrived the property was occupied This lovely cottage was initially built for personal use and not to be rented out. We are sorry you feel like 80 square meters plus a large veranda a garden and a three acre orange grove felt cramped to you. Last year the kitchen was renovated and the furniture and mattresses in the bedrooms were replaced for the comfort of our guests. For any issues, we share our details with guests so that they can contact us and we sent maintenance for repairs.A video is sent to all guests days before arrival, clearly showing all the spaces/bedrooms in the property. Two of the bedrooms were made upon your arrival; We were never advised that you also wanted the third bedroom. Despite that clean linen was available for all beds in the property

La maison dans les orangers : on a adoré !

Authentique maison de famille avec napperons et photos, pas la déco standardisée des loueurs à la chaine, mais une maison avec une histoire et une âme. Plus grande qu’il n’y paraît en arrivant, sous sa tonnelle de vignes, 3 chambres et 2 salles de douches, des moustiquaires partout pour laisser circuler l’air et même une clim quand il fait vraiment trop chaud. Au dessus de la maison une terrasse avec vue à 360° sur les orangers à perte de vue, pas de voisins et une plage déserte au bout du chemin (10mn à pied mais le propriétaire du terrain rencontré par hasard nous a même prêté la clé du portail pour y accéder en voiture). Patio très agréable pour y manger, douche dans le jardin pour se rafraîchir, machine à laver le linge en cas de besoin, il ne manque pas grand-chose pour que ce soit parfait, nous y avons été très bien et serions ravis de revenir au printemps quand les orangers sont en fleurs. Sans cafetière on a pris l’habitude de faire notre café « à la Grecque » et ça ne nous a pas gênés. En cette saison un peu de passage des gens qui travaillent dans les orangers (ajouter un petit brise vue sur le portail ?) et parfois le bruit des pompes d’irrigation est un peu trop matinal ou trop tardif mais on respecte leur travail, c’est le bruit de la vraie vie. L’accueil est le meilleur que l’on ait jamais eu, Dora nous attendait avec sa mère sous la tonnelle avec un plat de légumes farcis et un saladier de biscuits, tout fait maison et délicieux, notre 1er dîner a été un grand moment ! Les oranges étaient déjà cueillies pour nous et au réfrigérateur en prévision du petit déjeuner. Dora nous a montré en voiture toutes les plages et les restos du coin ce qui nous a fait gagner beaucoup de temps par la suite. Après d’autres expériences beaucoup moins réussies ailleurs en Grèce nous avons apprécié d’être accueilli par des propriétaires locaux car leur gentillesse est sans égale.

The beautiful cottage in an Orange farm

Lovely cottage nestled in the midst of an orange farm. Close to a sandy beach with small but all you need beach bar. Meet and hear Greeks. Very friendly hosts who invited us warmly and provided the best Mossaka we have ever had. Quiet and relaxing cottage with all you need. Close to Skala for supermarket and within easy reach of Mani, Gethio and Monavasia. Local villages and more picturesque beaches are close by to visit by car. Lovely night sky from the terrace. We thoroughly enjoyed being in the cottage as a family of 4 and the area. Love to visit again. Warm send off from the hosts.

Fresh, simple, big country house. Excellent location as a base for uncrowded Peloponnese's beaches..

We stayed at Skala in Maria's house from July 31st to August 5th 2018. We were five people, two adults and three kids, We were the first guests in the country house of Maria and Dora. Also the grandmother was there to welcome us; a very nice lady, who makes a good moussaka and some delicious cookies. The accomodation is a typical country house. True, not fake. So do not expect interior designer toouch, trendy furnishings, dim lights, bathrooms that could be confused with living rooms. Everything is practical, functional, simple, considering the place, we should say: Spartan. It returns a sense of real, not sophisticated and not artifact. You will have plenty of space, many rooms, large and spacious. An airy kitchen and veranda, where it's pleasant to have breakfast and dinner. A roof on which one can go with a chair and read in solitude. The house is immersed in an orange grove. Offering ripe oranges in July and August. Very sweet, very good. You stay absorbed in the silence of nature, not imagining anything more relaxing. You sleep in a natural cool, without the need for conditioners or fans. The price is cheap. You can park the car just inside the gate. Nearby there are beaches not taken by assault by tourists even in the hottest periods, fresh and good food at affordable prices. Get advice from Dora, who knows all the best addresses. The location can be excellent as a base for going to the beaches in the surroundings and to visit the Peloponnese, with its historical finds, elegant cities, perched monasteries, uncrowded beaches, beautiful caves, all at low prices and in a relaxed and jovial way of being.

The ideal family retreat and so much more...

We are recently back home to UK after an amazing holiday experience with my wife and three young ones in Skala- Peloponnese. A traditional Greek village accommodation, in amongst beautiful gardens and endless orange groves. Our visits to Gytheion, Monemvasia, and beautiful sandy beaches is something that we will soon repeat in the near future. The Kids loved the freedom of roaming in the Orange grove. People, amazingly friendly and helpful. Fully recommended for those who look for wholesome holiday experiences.

nice place!!!

It had anything I needed for summer vacations. The house is equipped and the garden is big and full of trees. It is a refreshing experience, close to the nature. Plus there is no other house nearby so you have privacy. You can reach the beach on foot. It is an excellent base point to explore the area around by car like Skala, Gythio, Monemvasia etc...The owners are friendly and helpful.
