Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei Jesse Bernstein
Hi, we’re Jesse and Mary Rose — we got married in Marfa, had our rehearsal dinner at the Watermelon Adobe and fell in love with the desert, the community, and the creative spirit that fills the town. Restoring our historic adobe has been a dream come true, and we’re thrilled to share it with guests who appreciate beauty, history, and the slower pace of desert life.
Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
Blending the best of Marfa’s landscape with the ease of its walkable in-town charm. This restored 1890s adobe stays naturally cool, warm, and quiet, with polished concrete floors perfect for barefoot mornings. Earthen walls and modern desert design, creates a sense of space and calm. Large windows draw the soft morning light, dramatic sunsets, and star-filled nights.
Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
Designed with relaxation in mind, the space features Heirloom rugs, handcrafted furniture, and an 8-foot dining table made from Texas knotty pine-a welcoming spot for eating, reading, daydreaming or Zoom meetings. High speed WiFi keeps you connected when you need it.
A sliding barn door made from repurposed wood leads to the bathroom, which features an LED medicine cabinet, hand-painted tile, ceramic sconces, mood lighting, and a cast-iron tub/shower combo.
The natural shifting of the Watermelon Adobe over time, tells a story chronicling its past. Inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where cracks in pottery are filled with gold to accentuate imperfection, ceramicist Mary Rose has subtley placed veins of gold leaf throughout the interior walls, embracing it’s character, resilience, and history.
Step into the screened-in porch, where a cozy potbelly stove, plenty of firewood, comfortable seating, and backyard views set the tone for true relaxation. It’s the perfect spot to stargaze, sip matcha at sunrise, or sotol at sunset. There’s no television—by design—but a Sonos music system lets you fill the space with your favorite tunes. The utility room includes a full-size washer and dryer that guests are welcome to use.
Simple, soulful, and built for downtime, the Watermelon Adobe has seen some beautiful things over the years and we kindly ask that you show it the sweetness, love and respect it deserves.
Please be mindful of goat heads (tiny desert thorns) that like to hitch a ride on the bottoms of shoes. They can be painful if carried inside and stepped on barefoot in the middle of the night.
Floor mats are provided at the front door and at the entrance to the screened-in porch—a quick wipe of your feet helps keep the adobe comfortable for everyone. Also, to keep the space breezy and bug-free, please pull the screen doors shut behind you to help keep mosquitoes and flies out.
