Three Sheets to the Wind is a perfect place for a Hatteras Island vacation. Three Sheets is nestled into a beautiful, natural, dune-top location on a quiet street in Kinnakeet Shores. The ground level has ample parking, a gas grill, and a private beach walkway. The first living level has four bedrooms (main with private bath), a hall bath, and a laundry room with a private washer/dryer. Vacationers will lose themselves in the large second-level great room with expansive cathedral ceilings, exposed cedar beams, window benches, and a room-top reading nook. An additional third bathroom plus a well-thought-out design will allow for entertaining a good vacation crowd. The open, well-equipped kitchen is readily accessible to the oceanfront dining area. The third-level loft bedroom with a private deck has a bird's eye view of the ocean and sound. Three Sheets catches the best Avon has to offer.

Things to know:
You will be required to sign an additional lease agreement upon making a booking which will be sent to your email. You will not be able to check in until we have received your signature electronically. Please contact us directly if you do not receive this agreement.

Please note: Guests have access to the Club Hatteras Pool Facility. Additional details around this facility will be shared in your check-in email and during the check-in process. The club is typically open Mid-May to Mid-October, depending on weather.

Beautiful place right on the beach. Plenty of cookware, cups, utensils etc. for cooking. The only thing wrong was the hot tub hardly had any water in it and was green so it had not been taken care of in a while. Was looking forward to using it during our stay, but couldn't.

Our stay was OK. The only amenity that I wanted in a house was a hot tub and we were informed after the cut off date for cancellation that the hot tub was broken beyond repair. We would’ve liked to have been given a chance to find a more accommodating space. The road leading out was closed on the day of checkout, and we asked for some leniency, but ended up having to wait around in a nearby restaurant for five hours for the road to open.

We absolutely loved this house! I searched hundreds of houses looking for a home that was dated with nostalgia and this nailed in on the head. The home was clean, and comfortable but it was set back in time in a truly lovely way. From the old school decor, to the same exact plates I grew up with, it was a blast from the past and we will definitely be going back. So many of the rental homes are white washed inside with gorgeous modern interiors, and we love that too, but we wanted something that felt cozy for winter, and embracing when you walk in, and this house does that. There is a board game closet stocked with lots of great throwbacks. We loved that the home is walking distance to groceries and restaurants. There is ample parking in the driveway to probably fit five cars if needed. For winter stays, the house was very warm and not drafty, the heat works well, and the windows have all been upgraded to double pane. Management was great, we had a few minor things come up that were quickly addressed. This house would be great for families and especially good for a girls or guys trip to reminisce old times. If I didn't live in Atlanta, I would consider buying it!

This property is beautiful. Location on the beach and in the town for conveniences is perfect. We could walk to the grocery store and to local restaurants. There were very few trivial negatives. Under the house was not cleaned up. Boards from building walkway to beach were laying around. Chairs and knee boards were scattered. The house itself was clean except for the vents and light fixtures were quite dusty. When it came time to check out you are required to call from the house phone to the rental agency. The house phones were not connected. Everyone in our party are already talking about coming back next year.

The house was perfect for us! If you struggle with stairs, this is NOT your place. I don’t know that this area (OBX) is your place if you struggle with stairs. On to the house itself. It could use some updating, sure. But it was still very comfortable. The biggest things I saw was the carpet starting to rip up on the steps. We only slept in the king bed one the main level. The room was huge! The bed was too firm for my liking but I still slept ok. We were kind of bummed that only one window opened and stayed open on its own but didn’t have a screen in that bedroom. We had cooler nights and would have loved to slept with a window open. The AC in the house is amazing! The upper loft room does tend to stay a lot warmer than the rest of the house but is to be expected since it’s on the 3rd level. The views from that room are awesome but the stairs are kind of steep. If you are traveling with a group or family, there were so many board games and books provided for rainy days or evenings. We had plenty of cookware for the meals we cooked. I would have preferred some more non-stick pans but we made due. The coffee pot is a normal one so bring or buy filters. The hot tub was clean and was great to have on arrival day and in the evenings of our trip. And don’t be fooled! Those ratchet straps for the lid are NOT for just in between guests… the ocean wind WILL open it again if you don’t use them. We did see some beach toys in the outdoor shower area. We would stay again

Totally disappointing

I have been coming to Avon are for over 20 years and have stayed in different houses and some of them more than once, but this house was such a disappointment. The house felt dirty when first walked into. The beds were made with the linens turned inside out…. Makes you wonder. The towel rack in the small bathroom is falling off the wall. Not enough bath towels Only one kitchen towel From your website.. We’ll stock every Vacasa home with linens (sheets and towels) and supply a starter pack of toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, and laundry detergent. (there were no extra towels. No paper towels and no laundry detergent) Screen door in queen size bedroom is torn Carpeting is a disaster… torn and coming up at the edges plus feels dirty when walking in bare feet. TV control in living room does not control tv. The media center needs updated. There was not a dvd player. The silverware in drawers were dirty. No hangers in closets and the drawers looked too dirty to use. One of the bathrooms is leaking under the house. The kitchen floor was sticky The dryer will not start unless you slam the door The entire house needs dusted The largest couch is broken down and uncomfortable. The bedding needs updated. The only decent bed was the king. The twin in the bunk room is breaking down under the bed. The description says it holds up to 10 but in the living room and the dining room….. there is not enough places to sit comfortably. The upstairs ? bedroom ? Should NOT be a bedroom…. Maybe a sitting room. The commode on main floor is wobbly. The entire house needs a makeover! To park 3 or more cars is a joke. The house is basically a dump. If this is what you approve for your rentals I only hope I can find something through another company.

Debbie, we are very sorry to hear you had a disappointing stay at our home. We are grateful for the detailed feedback provided in the review, which will be instrumental in improving the overall quality of service provided in the future. Maintenance has installed a new wax ring and closet bolts on the first floor. They have fixed the loose toilet and leak under the house. They also changed the batteries in the living room remotes and adjusted the dryer door. The deep cleaning of the house was done in January. This includes a full carpet and upholstery clean by an outside professional vendor. We will work with housekeeping and see if this house can use another carpet clean. We will also make sure the cleaner knows to check the dusting on their next clean as well as the kitchen floor. We will let the homeowner know about the carpet, bedding, and media center to see if this is something he can update in the near future. We are committed to ensuring that all customers are satisfied with their experience and will take all necessary steps to ensure that the same issues do not occur again. We truly hope we can host you for a more comfortable stay in the future, thank you.

Three Sheets June 2022

This home is a great value for a beach front property. While this home isn't updated, it works perfectly for the small amount my family was in the home. So if you are booking understand the bathrooms are dated. But everything inside the home functions. Couldn't get the propane grill to work, but the charcoal one was perfect. What I wasn't pleased about was Vacasa. My family reunion was scheduled a year and half ahead of time when the beach nourishment project was not scheduled to be in front of this house. The scheduled was changed and unfortunately I lost my beach access and had lights and noises nonstop for 5 days. Vacasa never notified me of any changes and would not offer anything to alleviate the premium paid for beach access. I have decided not to book with Vacasa again but now that the nourishment is done I do recommend this house. You will have plenty of beach for your family.

Location!!!

Grammy and Grandpa took 3 grandchildren to OBX. After much research we chose 3 sheets to the wind. There is some truth in all the negative observations. In spite of that, due to the location, we would recommend this rental to anyone. If we get to return to OBX I hope to rent this property again.

It worked for us!

We enjoyed the house and especially the oceanfront location! The hot tub was wonderful, the kitchen is well stocked, and the porches looked out at the ocean were lovely. Everything was comfortable. It would be nice if they'd fix the hot tub cover and the toilet paper holder in the downstairs middle bathroom. We would stay there again.

House was okay for an older home but the prior renters didn’t put out trash for pickup and maggots in the trash along with a dead animal smell. House had crumbs receipts from prior renters , burnt food on stove top along with I picked up over 4 gallon bag of trash outside.

What a great location! Easy walkway out to the beautiful beaches from this ocean front house. Also very close to the pier and walking distance to grocery store, markets and restaurants. Views from the decks are spectacular. Kitchen very usable and comfortable sleeping.

Nice home, very nice location, well maintained and clean with some evidence of age and watermarks on wood trim. A few lightbulbs out and toilet in master suite kind of sticks and refills periodically. Carpet, hot tub, and appliances in good condition. I thought ocean view was mostly from loft only but main level has a very good view of the ocean waves, dolphins, birds. The beach access deck at the top of dune was a favorite

great location

The home has a great location just off the beach and very close to groceries. The home was very relaxing. There were a few small issues. The water smelled like rotten eggs. Many of the dishes and pans were dirty and older. The home has clearly been well loved and is need of updates. The furniture is old and worn and the comforters are outdated. The beds were comfortable. There is an expectation of cleaning, but not enough supplies are left to clean properly. No working sweeper. Not enough dish soap, trash bags, etc. I would stay here again but I would just pack a bit different knowing what I know now.

Slightly dated, but enjoyable

The bathroom on the main living floor needs some TLC. My wife and I stayed in the lovely loft and that was our main bathroom. Some peeling drywall and old dingy shower controls. But useable. Lots of OLD electronics in the main living area. I donated a fiber optic cable so that the stereo system provided better sound for our movies and TV. The biggest negative was the state of the home when we arrived. The cleaning crew needed more time and vacasa was polite and generous because of the late entry. While that was highly appreciated, we still expected a somewhat clean house. I think all they did was put sheets on the beds. Maybe our expectations are too high. Food on the steps, vacuumed 4 to 5 cups of sand out of the carpet. So doubt they vacuumed at all. Sand on a bedspread too. Doubt anyone has cleaned the ladder nook in a long time. There will be sand everywhere. Parking area is sand. So sand comes in easily. Oh, and there was no screened area of hammock like the pictures showed. Once we got passed all that, we had a great time. Great views of the beach. Nice hot tub. AC works really well.
