Lakewood Bungalow – Your Lakeside Getaway in Vermont
Welcome to Lakewood Bungalow, a cozy and thoughtfully stocked lakeside retreat on the shores of Woodbury Lake (also known as Sabin Pond) in beautiful Woodbury, Vermont. This is the perfect spot to slow down, recharge, and experience authentic Vermont living—whether you’re here for a summer escape, a fall foliage tour, or a snowy winter adventure.
Our bungalow sits just steps from the water, offering guests the best of both worlds: a private, peaceful setting with direct access to swimming, fishing, and paddling, plus easy proximity to charming small towns, hiking trails, and world-class Vermont food and drink.
Why Guests Love Lakewood Bungalow
The first thing you’ll notice is the sense of tranquility. Our lake community is small and friendly, with neighbors who value rest and relaxation. Quiet hours (10 pm–9 am) help preserve the calm, so you can listen to the loons call at night, watch mist rise over the lake at sunrise, and enjoy starry evenings on the porch without distraction.
Across the road you’ll find our private grassy lakefront area with beach chairs, lawn games, and a dock that extends into clear, spring-fed water. At the end of the dock it’s about 10 feet deep, with some spots in the lake reaching 55+ feet. Gas-powered boats are welcome, but many guests simply paddle out in one of our four kayaks or two paddleboards (life jackets provided) for a peaceful sunrise or sunset trip.
A Classic Vermont Fishing Spot
If you enjoy fishing, you’re in for a treat. Woodbury Lake is regularly stocked with rainbow and brown trout and is home to smallmouth and largemouth bass, yellow perch, pumpkinseed, brown bullhead, and chain pickerel. Cast a line right from the dock or launch from the Vermont Fish & Wildlife access nearby. Whether it’s a quiet morning with a rod or teaching kids to catch panfish in the evening, this is a quintessential Vermont experience.
Inside the Bungalow – Comfort & Convenience
Lakewood Bungalow is designed to make your stay easy and comfortable:
Living Area: A bright, welcoming space with a 55” smart TV (all major streaming services), games and puzzles stored in the cabinet below the TV, and extra blankets in the coffee table for cozy nights.
Kitchen: Fully equipped with pots, pans, plates, utensils, microwave, blender, refrigerator, oven/stove, drip coffee maker, and tea selection—perfect for preparing meals after a day outdoors. Dishwasher pods are under the sink for quick cleanup.
Washer & Dryer: Located in the bathroom, free for guest use.
Towels: Red towels for beach use; white towels for the bathroom.
Wi-Fi: Fast Xfinity internet. Cell service is limited, but we encourage guests to unplug and unwind.
Pets are welcome with prior approval and a $75 cleaning fee. Please respect our no-smoking policy inside the house (smoking is allowed outside).
Local Flavor – Food, Farms & Markets
Part of what makes Lakewood Bungalow special is its direct connection to Vermont’s food culture. Just a few doors down is Flywheel Farm, a certified-organic fruit and vegetable farm with a self-serve stand open daily from noon to 6 pm, June through September. It’s a beautiful place to pick up fresh produce and even catch a seasonal event or two.
Four miles away, the historic East Calais General Store serves hearty breakfasts, hot coffee, and homemade soups—a must-visit for a taste of small-town Vermont life. In nearby Hardwick, you’ll find the Buffalo Mountain Market co-op, Tops Friendly Market, and an array of restaurants and cafés:
Village Restaurant – Beloved for home-style breakfasts and lunches.
The Cork & Fork – Upscale American pub-style dinners with local ingredients.
Positive Pie – Famous pizzas and a laid-back vibe (locations in Hardwick and Plainfield).
Caja Taqueria – House-made tortillas, creative vegetarian tacos, and even axe-throwing out back.
Front Seat Coffee – Cozy café with house-made pastries and excellent coffee.
And of course, Vermont’s world-class beverages are just a short drive away: Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro (voted Best Brewery in the World multiple times), Caledonia Spirits – Barr Hill Gin in Montpelier, Lost Nation Brewing in Morrisville, The Alchemist in Stowe, and Green Mountain Distillers in Morristown. Cheese lovers can explore Cabot Creamery, The Cellars at Jasper Hill, and even plan a day on the Vermont Cheese Trail.
Don’t leave without trying Vermont’s iconic maple creemee soft-serve. Our favorites are Bragg Farm (just 15 minutes away) and Morse Farm in Montpelier—both family-run, both unforgettable. We challenge you to try them both and tell us which one wins your heart.
Outdoor Adventure at Your Doorstep
Woodbury and its surrounding region are an outdoor enthusiast ’s paradise. In warm weather, hike the scenic Woodbury Mountain Wilderness Preserve or Woodbury Wildlife Reserve, or visit Woodbury Falls for a leisurely walk. Nichols Ledge, just 10 minutes away, offers a short but steep 0.6-mile trail to a dramatic cliff overlook with sweeping views of Nichols Pond and East Long Pond. (Closed March 15–August 1 to protect nesting peregrine falcons.) For a bigger adventure, tackle Spruce Mountain in Plainfield—a 3.4-mile out-and-back with a restored fire tower and 360-degree views.
Cyclists can hop on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, which runs through Hardwick and connects 18 communities across northern Vermont—93 miles of accessible paths perfect for biking, walking, or running. No bike? No problem. Riverside Cycles in downtown Hardwick rents high-quality bikes, including e-bikes, for about $75 per day.
In winter, the area transforms into a wonderland of snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Hardwick Trails offers groomed paths and free snowshoe loans on select Saturdays. Viking Nordic Center and Craftsbury Outdoor Center add miles of meticulously maintained trails for all skill levels, along with lessons and rentals.
