Lakewood Lodge

Lakewood Lodge — Vermont Lakefront Retreat Guests Call “An Absolute Dream”

Welcome to Lakewood Lodge, your private, four-season Vermont getaway on the clear, spring-fed waters of Woodbury Lake (Sabin Pond). This is more than a rental; it’s a lovingly cared-for lodge where guests arrive and instantly relax. Over and over, visitors call it “immaculate,” “a dream,” and “the perfect place to disconnect.”

Our guest book brims with stories of slow mornings on the porch, afternoons of paddling and hiking, evenings soaking under the stars, and cozy nights by the fire. We’ve built Lakewood Lodge to make that experience effortless for you.

A Warm, Thoughtful Welcome

From the moment you park in the driveway, stone steps lead you to the porch and hot tub. Inside, the lodge greets you with a warm, organized interior — radiant floors underfoot, a propane “wood” stove for ambiance, and even peaceful music playing at check-in. Our on-site manager Maggie lives next door and is there to answer questions or offer local tips, while Susan and Mark (your hosts) provide clear instructions and easy communication.

“We enjoyed the lakeside lodge from the moment we turned the door handle and walked inside… peaceful music playing when we checked in… The mornings enjoying coffee on the porch and the evenings spent just relaxing and soaking in the views of the lake were so relaxing and peaceful.” — guest review

Inside the Lodge

Lakewood Lodge blends rustic charm with modern comfort. Reviewers rave about how “beautiful, clean, and full of great amenities” it is. The kitchen is a highlight — fully stocked for cooking and baking, with both Keurig and drip coffee makers, sharp knives, a grill outside, and plenty of seating for family meals. We’ve labeled cabinets and stocked extras so you can cook without hunting for utensils.

The living area features smart TVs, puzzles, and games for all ages. Red towels are set aside for the hot tub and white towels for bathrooms. Extra blankets live in the coffee table for snuggling up. Washer and dryer are on site for longer stays. Bedrooms are cozy and kid-friendly, and the whole space is bright and uncluttered.

“Had a lovely stay… absolutely beautiful inside and out. We enjoyed kayaking and hot tub afterwards. The cabin has an amazing kitchen and grill to make nice meals and enjoy being in a peaceful and serene environment!! Definitely will return.” — guest review

Outdoors at Lakewood Lodge

Step across the quiet lane to our private beach and dock on Woodbury Lake. Guests can:

Swim or float in the crystal-clear water.

Launch one of our four kayaks or two paddleboards (life jackets included) and explore hidden coves.

Fish for rainbow trout or simply watch the loons.

Relax on the grassy lawn with beach chairs and lawn games.

Light up either of our two firepits for s’mores under the stars.

Evenings are especially magical. Many guests mention their favorite memory as “coffee on the porch in the morning, hot tub under the stars at night.” Quiet hours from 10 PM to 9 AM protect the calm of the lake.

“This place is an absolute dream!!! The cabin is immaculate, well organized and labeled, and perfect for a group! There’s plenty of space to stretch out, cozy up by the wood stove with a book, or bird watch from the deck.” — guest review

Exploring Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom

Our Welcome Book offers dozens of local tips. Some highlights:

Hiking: Walk to Nichols Ledge for sweeping cliffside views; hike Spruce Mountain’s fire tower trail or explore the Woodbury Wildlife Reserve. In winter, snowshoe or ski the Hardwick Trails or the renowned Craftsbury Outdoor Center’s 85km of groomed tracks.

Biking: Ride the scenic 93-mile Lamoille Valley Rail Trail or rent an e-bike from Riverside Cycles in Hardwick.

Farms & Markets: Stock up on organic produce at Flywheel Farm next door, breakfast sandwiches at the East Calais General Store, or groceries at Buffalo Mountain Co-op.

Dining: Guests rave about Positive Pie, The Cork & Fork, Caja Taqueria (with axe-throwing out back), and Front Seat Coffee for pastries and espresso.

Breweries & Distilleries: Hill Farmstead Brewery (30 minutes) has been named the world’s best. Barr Hill Distillery in Montpelier offers award-winning gin. Smugglers’ Notch and The Alchemist (home of Heady Topper IPA) are also within reach.

Maple Creemees: It’s a Vermont tradition. Try Bragg Farm and Morse Farm and decide which maple soft-serve wins your heart.

Stowe and Montpelier are an easy drive for dining, shopping, or day trips.

What Guests Say

“The cabin itself was beautiful, clean, and full of great amenities. The location was picture perfect, amazing views of the lake and mountains. We had a great time and were able to disconnect for a few days.”

“I ABSOLUTELY loved my stay at Susan’s property! My husband and I want to make this home part of our yearly vacation. The house was gorgeous, and Susan was such a pleasant host. I would recommend staying at this house to anyone, it is even kid friendly!”

“Absolutely beautiful place! Stayed here this past weekend, and celebrated a friend’s 40th birthday. Susan and Mark were wonderful hosts! Friendly, and left clear detailed instructions. Great location, Montpelier and Stowe are close by. If you’re a craft beer fan, Hill Farmstead Brewery is 30 mins away.”

“We wanted a relaxing long weekend getaway and that's precisely what we had. Easy communication, the warmest welcome ever, and a wonderful property manager make this beautiful lake lodge a must stay!! Coffee on the cozy front deck is the perfect way to start each morning… Although we visited in early fall, we imagine this location would be amazing in any season.”

Peaceful & Responsible Enjoyment

We love sharing Lakewood Lodge but also cherish the peaceful, small-community nature of Woodbury Lake. Parties are not allowed. Quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 9:00 AM. Pets welcome with prior approval and a small cleaning fee. Smoking outside only. Cell signal may be limited — which many guests count as a plus — but our Wi-Fi is strong when you need it.

Your Stay, Your Memories

Everything at Lakewood Lodge is set up for comfort and ease, from labeled kitchen cabinets to local guidebooks and extra flashlights. Guests repeatedly write in the guest book about how quickly they felt at home and how hard it was to leave. Whether you’re here for a romantic escape, a family vacation, or a group retreat, you’ll find the balance of adventure and tranquility that makes Vermont special.

Come see why our guests call Lakewood Lodge “immaculate,” “kid friendly,” “a dream,” and “their new yearly vacation spot.” Paddle at dawn, hike at noon, savor a local beer at sunset, and soak under the stars at night. In every season, Lakewood Lodge invites you to slow down and savor the good life.

We have raised our three boys in Vermont and we are so grateful to be able to share our beloved state of Vermont with our guests. For us, hosting at Lakewood Lodge isn’t just about offering a place to stay—it’s about sharing a little piece of Vermont that we truly love. Susan and I fell in love with this lake for its clear water, peaceful woods, and welcoming community, and opening our home to guests lets us extend that experience to others. We take pride in creating a stay that feels both effortless and memorable—stocking the house thoughtfully, keeping it spotless, and adding personal touches so guests can immediately relax.

What we enjoy most is hearing how families reconnect, couples unwind, and friends discover Vermont for the first time. Reading guest notes about kids catching their first fish off the dock or a morning paddle with loons reminds us why we host. It’s deeply rewarding to know our lodge is part of someone’s special weekend, birthday, or vacation tradition. Sharing this place and making it easy for others to enjoy is what makes hosting on Vrbo so meaningful to us.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

We chose Woodbury Lake (Sabin Pond) because it captures the best of Vermont—clear spring-fed water, peaceful forests, and a welcoming community that values rest and relaxation. This quiet neighborhood has a small-town feel where everyone cherishes the same tranquility we do. From the porch at Lakewood Lodge you can hear loons calling across the lake at night, watch mist rise over the water at sunrise, or simply unwind under the stars.

What we love most is how this area blends privacy and natural beauty with easy access to authentic Vermont experiences. Our guests enjoy a private beach directly across the road for swimming, fishing, and launching kayaks or paddleboards. In summer you can stroll to Flywheel Farm, a certified-organic stand just down the street, for fresh produce and a taste of the local landscape. Within minutes you can hike Nichols Ledge for dramatic cliff views, explore Spruce Mountain’s fire tower, bike the scenic Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, or ski and snowshoe Hardwick Trails in winter.

Despite its serene setting, the neighborhood also connects you to Vermont’s food and drink culture. A short drive brings you to the East Calais General Store for hearty breakfasts, Hardwick’s cafés and restaurants, and world-class producers like Hill Farmstead Brewery, Jasper Hill Farm cheeses, and classic maple creemees at Bragg Farm.

This mix of quiet retreat and nearby adventures is exactly why we chose Lakewood Lodge’s neighborhood—and why so many guests come back year after year to swim, fish, hike, ski, and savor a true Vermont experience in every season.

Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig

Lakewood Lodge is more than just a place to stay—it’s a lakeside retreat designed for relaxation and connection. Tucked into the trees above beautiful Woodbury Lake, our home offers a rare blend of privacy, comfort, and authentic Vermont charm. You can step across the road to your own private beach for swimming, fishing, or launching one of our four kayaks or two paddleboards, then come back to unwind on the porch or soak in the hot tub under the stars. Few properties in the area provide both direct lake access and a spacious, fully equipped home on the same site.

Inside, the lodge is warm, inviting, and thoughtfully stocked with everything you need for an easy stay—radiant floor heating, a propane “wood” stove for cozy evenings, a full kitchen with both drip coffee maker and Keurig, smart TVs, games and puzzles for family nights, and plenty of soft towels and blankets. The layout comfortably accommodates families or groups while maintaining a peaceful, uncluttered feel.

What truly sets Lakewood Lodge apart, though, is how seamlessly it connects guests to Vermont life. Walk a few doors down to Flywheel Farm for fresh produce in summer. Drive minutes to scenic hikes like Nichols Ledge or Spruce Mountain, the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail for biking, or Hardwick’s cafés, restaurants, and world-class Hill Farmstead Brewery. In winter, groomed ski and snowshoe trails are close by.
