However, it desperately needs to be updated and thoroughly cleaned. There was a terrible ant problem in the kitchen which prevented us from doing much cooking. The rental company was made aware and tried to help, but unfortunately it didn’t go away during our two week stay. I would highly recommend Lake Toxaway Rental Company just not this house.

It was a huge disappointment. The property was old and poorly kept up. The kitchen was small, the appliances leaked, didn’t work properly and were very old and dirty. The kitchen had ants all over the counters. The home was dirty, there was feces on the toilet, the blankets had stains on them. The bedding was not cleaned. I spent the first day washing all the linens. The outdoors was covered in yellow jackets. So forget about using the back deck or cooking on the grill!! The door knob from the family room to the back deck was broken. The floors were filthy; our grandchildren's feet were black. There were a number of light bulbs out.Needless to say it was very disappointing. Please choose another home.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The back door upstairs won’t lock. The downstairs door leading outside is super hard to lock. The towels smelled. (Maybe due to the type of washer?). There were ants downstairs and in the first floor bathroom where the double bed is. Kitchen is super well stocked with everything including supplies, like cleaners, coffee and spices. That was really nice. There was a sick rat that was on the carport when we returned from town one evening. Some of the steps down to the dock are slippery with mildew. I thought there was supposed to be kayaks at the location. We saw a canoe all the way up at the carport. I think that some of the cloth sofas should be replaced and maybe get rid of a bunch of the accent pillows. Lastly, The bedroom pillows also need to be updated. We had a great time and the space was really nice. Just thought you might want to be aware of these things. Thank you!!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a wonderful time staying at the Grant McDonald home. We had a bit of trouble with the plumbing with a water heater that decided to conk out and a pressure valve on the well however our property manager Dave was fantastic and had a plumber there as soon as possible. Should it not have been a quick fix contingencies were being put in place and we received a credit for our trouble. The views are beautiful. The home is a bit dated on the interior with a smaller kitchen but it was cozy and fit our large group needs. Plenty of space to spread out with a large group and Lake Toxaway hikes were fun. We would absolutely return. We would like to suggest to the owners to provide a firepit for outdoor fires. A hot tub would also be a benefit as those are two items we usually look for in a winter get-a-way. Thank you for making our stay wonderful despite our little hiccup. Problems happen but it how you respond that makes all of the difference.

Fabulous stay at the Grant-McDonald Home!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My husband and I had such a lovely stay at the Grant McDonald home with two other couples! The home had everything we could want; plenty of room to spread out when we needed privacy, and wonderful gathering places in the main living areas, and the deck overlooking the lake. And what a view of Lake Toxaway! Priceless! Within walking distance to the Greystone Inn and the Lake Toxaway Country Club, we had plenty of options for dining at those two places, as well as local restaurants not far. The guys took advantage of the temporary Country Club membership to play golf, and the “girls” found some fabulous boutique shopping and lunch in nearby Cashiers. All in all we had a fabulous time!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It is a beautiful home and the yard is lovely...plenty of outdoor seating on several decks and dock. Living areas had plenty of seating for everyone and the tv’s were easy to figure out. Kitchen had plenty of dishes, bowls, mugs, and silverware. Bedrooms/beds were comfortable, and lots of towels in the bathrooms. Sauna was a real perk coming in from the lake. The house does need some attention. When we arrived the dishwasher needed repair...(2 inches of water under the sink). The refrigerator leaked...every morning we woke up to a big puddle of water on the hardwood was never repaired. The blinds and shades were very difficult to operate.....blinds in the twin room were practically falling apart. Several doorknobs fell off every time they were used. The sliding door in the living room was impossible to open/close easily.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The Grant-McDonald Lake Home is a lovely home in a truly beautiful setting. The lot is just stunning. It is a sanctuary for birds—as you can hear their beautiful songs anytime of day. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable. There were two issues that needed addressing however. There needs to be a pest control company to come spray for spiders, particularly in the lowest level. There were quite a few bugs the week we were there. Secondly, the Internet service/WiFi, within the home, was truly awful. My husband has to work some, even while vacationing, and it proved to be extremely frustrating throughout the week. If these two issues were resolved, it would have made our stay even more enjoyable.

There are several decks which have great views of the lake and the children enjoyed the pier for fishing and swimming. The rental company and owner were attentive and even arranged for a complimentary boat trip for a minor inconvenience. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

A Special Place

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our family has enjoyed vacationing at the beautiful Grant-McDonald home in Lake Toxaway, NC for several years now. The home is spacious, providing 5 bedrooms and a private bath for each one. Being right on the lake provides a relaxing setting and quick access to the pier and lake activities. The house is within walking distance to the marina where you can rent boats, skis, kayaks, etc. The Marina owner is terrific and always helpful. We take advantage of the guest membership to the Lake Toxaway Country Club with this rental. We use their golf course, which is always in great condition and a pleasure to play, as well as their pool, clay tennis courts, and clubhouse for some of our meals. Other great restaurants in the area provide wonderful menus for all tastes. Our family has enjoyed all the hiking trails and many breathtaking waterfalls in the area. There is also great horseback riding in the area and the tour guide provides a living history lesson while on the trail, making it a very special experience. Many shopping choices abound with specialty shops not found elsewhere. The Lake Toxaway company and the home owners always makes us feel welcome. All our family members look forward to our annual trip to Lake Toxaway and going "home" to the Grant-McDonald house for our stay.Jeff & Jane RedmondKingsport, TN
