The property is very new and well-appointed (except for no wine glasses or opener). I would have given this property an excellent rating except for the owner's reaction to a basic request. We were 4 adults staying, and we each had a strong reaction to a foul smell permeating both floors of the unit. I immediately shopped for a candle of sorts, but given the limited options in Cooke, nothing was available. So, I asked the owner if they might have something. She arrived at the unit and aggressively berated me, telling me there was no smell, there had never been a smell, and I was insulting her cleanliness. Needless to say, she did not provide a candle or other solution, and we suffered through the ongoing stench during our two-night stay. Sadly, the smell continued to be obvious throughout the unit.

I had been in the unit just prior to the guests arrival to leave the information the guests would need for WiFi and door code. I checked them in and told to let me know if they need anything. About a half hour after they checked in they said that there was an odor so I went over to address them, walked in and there was absolutely no odor at all. She said, “do you smell it”? I did not smell anything at all and relayed that to her. She seemed surprised that I did not. It smelled neutral, which is how it should smell. She asked for candles and I told her I did not keep candles and she said she was accustomed to candles. This was a very difficult issue to try to solve and I went in the following day to check and it smelled neutral. This unit is almost always rented and I never want to discount any of my guests but got to thinking that if they always used scented candles, that maybe that was their expectation. Also I receive perfect reviews on this listing and actually called the prior guests and the guests that came in after and no one detected any odors at all.
