Set on the shores of England’s largest lake, it offers a rare balance of natural beauty, gentle pace, and vibrant life. We enjoy being able to walk straight out to lakeside paths, watch the boats come and go, and take in the changing views across the water, while still having excellent restaurants, cafés, shops, and attractions just moments away. Whether it’s an early-morning walk along the lake, a ferry across to the quieter western shores, or a relaxed evening in the village after a day exploring the fells, Bowness feels welcoming, scenic, and effortlessly enjoyable in every season.

Enjoy a truly special stay at The Retreat, our spacious three-bedroom home set in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere. After a day exploring everything the Lake District has to offer, return to a peaceful, beautifully appointed house where you can unwind in comfort. Spend the evening relaxing in the generous kitchen-diner, or soak in the luxurious freestanding copper bath while taking in mountain views. If you prefer to head out, the village’s excellent restaurants, shops, and bars are just a minute’s walk away. Despite this central location, The Retreat sits on a quiet street, tucked away from the bustle of the town centre.
The large master bedroom overlooks the town with mountains stretching out in the distance and features a striking copper roll-top bath. Both king-size bedrooms are fitted with exceptionally comfortable Harrison Spinks 22,000-spring mattresses, ensuring a superb night’s sleep. The main bathroom also includes a generous monsoon shower.
Entering through the newly renovated front entrance, there is plenty of space for walking boots, coats, and outdoor gear. The hallway leads to a spacious lounge with Smart TV, books, puzzles, and games, before opening into a bright and welcoming kitchen-diner with a fireplace. The kitchen is fully equipped with a coffee machine, dishwasher, hob, oven, microwave, and all the cookware, crockery, glassware, and utensils you may need during your stay.
One of the most memorable features of The Retreat is its setting and views. From within the house, you can enjoy peaceful outlooks across the surrounding hills, with particularly stunning vistas from the copper bath—an ideal place to relax and take in the landscape. Just a short stroll away is the renowned Biskey Howe viewpoint, offering panoramic views over Windermere and Bowness and providing a perfect spot to watch sunrise or sunset.
