We felt like we were in the middle of nature! Outside the floor to ceiling windows, we could watch neighboring horses, birds, and even elk! Everything was clean and spacious; so much attention to detail ( binoculars, book selection, even kites and sleds in the garage, accessible extra supplies as needed, variety of cooking appliances- my husband loved the trash compactor!). The beds are firm, which I appreciated. Of special note: We spent part of an afternoon at nearby Ranch at South Fork. Best “ petting zoo” we have ever been to! Adults and children will be allowed to pet and interact with the most gentile animals such as Highland and Jersey cows, alpaca, goats, dogs and cats, horses, sheep and lambs… even gather free eggs from their coop. More importantly, the people who live at and manage the place are wonderful. All for free ( we tipped our young tour guide!) .

This was one of the best places ever. It is out there, and a little far from other areas, but it's so quiet, peaceful, and the elk in the backyard helped too. Amazing!

This was our 4th year here and we love it and hope to return next year. It did need some maintenance and better cleaning this year, but management was very responsive fixed our problems and plan improved surveillance in future. The cabin has a beautiful setting and we enjoy its quiet and privacy. Springerville and Alpine closely offer shopping and restaurants nearby.

Serene setting and relaxing

What a great place to stay for a relaxing weekend in the cool weather of the White mountains! We had a family reunion to attend down the road from this cabin and it was so convenient for our needs. The property was well equipped with basic needs and it worked well for us. We will definitely book again! Thanks.

It ws beautiful however it was not clean. I was told no pets were allowed and the place was full of dog fur. The linens in the childs room were not washed and full of dog fur. The property was beautiful just had to clean up we would definitely stay again.

Our stay was truly memorable. Our family was able to spread out in the beautiful house and property. There were elk, geese, storks, and so many other wildlife just outside the property at the pond. The house is very well stocked and very comfortable. The one thing I didn’t realize is there is no AC, just heating. However that is normal for the area, I just didn’t realize it. Thank you so much for the amazing experience and sharing your beautiful home. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Our third year here, and we're coming back

This the third year we have rented the cabin, and we love it more every time. My wife and I are in our 80's and we enjoy the walks in the vicinity, the absolutely wonderful summer respite from Phoenix, the monsoon storms that bless the afternoons, and the solitude and beauty of the surroundings. We brought some grandchildren and their significant others this year for a long weekend, and a friend for another week. We are planning to return next year if we remain healthy.

mountain retreat

This home is spacious. The location is perfect. The deck facing a small lake is great for relaxing and enjoying mountain air and nature. Wildlife abounds from rabbits, geese, swallows, coyotes, fox, elk and more. The home does need some work on the inside here and there and the windows desperately need washing to enjoy the fabulous view, but it is still a lovely place to be. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and bake, we were very pleased! We will gladly return to this mountain retreat.

Absolutely beautiful!

This is truly a retreat! We treated ourselves to a short getaway to spend an early Thanksgiving with our kids and wow! The house had everything we could ask for and, bonus points, had plenty of things for our youngest group member including a kid-friendly toilet and utensils. The cabin is gorgeous with spacious, comfortable bedrooms and plenty of space for our whole family. The property is beautiful and it truly felt like we were in a movie. The only qualm we had was a few wasps seemed to have made their way into the cabin and one stung our son, but other than that there is nothing negative I have to say about the rental. We absolutely recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful, spacious, and relaxing cabin with a view straight out of a movie!

Slice of Paradise

I have driven through Nutrioso many times in my life but didn't know this area existed. When we arrived the fields were teeming with elk. It was delightful to see them in the field. The house has binoculars in every room so you can see the wildlife up close. The patio was a haven to rest and enjoy the mountain air. The home has a lovely living room with vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. There is plenty of space for large families. The kitchen has every dish and utensil you could possibly want. We cooked every day we were there and had everything we needed. The downside to the property is that it is showing its age and needs some maintenance. The windows are covered in bird poop from the sparrows that nest in the eves. The ice maker is broken. There are notes on doors regarding what not to lock (because you can't get it unlocked if the nob moves). The deadbolt on the front door was engaged when we arrived and the key does not open it. Fortunately we found another door that we could gain entry. The toilets run constantly. And the listed phone number for the property manager does not work. Fortunately she did respond to email. Unfortunately, she said she would message the owner regarding getting a maintenance person out. That did not happen during our stay. Despite these issues, when we left we were refreshed and desiring to return. It is a lovely home and gorgeous setting.

Beautiful Cabin, unreasonable rules.

The cabin and the views were stunning! Of note, the road in to the cabin is not paved. A car could not have made it. 2 ft deep mud. Thankfully all our vehicles had 4-wheel drive and was needed each time. If not for the unreasonable rules of the owners, it still would have been 4-5 stars. 1. Only allowed 1 large black bag of garbage TOTAL for the entire stay. Told we had to take any additional garbage with us. The landfills are all closed on Mondays, so we had to take garbage in our cars on the drive home. 2. Long printed list of required clean up to get cleaning deposit back. We followed the list to every picky detail, no money was returned. We left the cabin cleaner than we found it. 3. Told not to use the washing machine, or there would be an additional $300 fee! I thought every VRBO was required to provide this amenity? And to not have access to a washer in a mountain cabin during snow season is absurd. Buy a new washer! 4. The fire place was filthy. Remnants of the previous guest fire were still there, not cleaned. It has glass doors on both sides, but they were covered in black soot and completely blocked the view of the fire. The lake view windows were also streaked with dust/soot. 4. The smart thermostat was remotely reprogrammed each night to 50°. We woke up FREEZING! The cost of the stay was doubled with their additional fees. Don’t expect to get your deposit back, despite following all their demands.

Thank you Jennifer for choosing the Wapiti Run retreat for your mountain getaway and really appreciate your feedback on what made your stay enjoyable and unpleasant. As for the negatives, you never contacted me during your stay but I will address each issue publicly, since you decided to do the same. 1. House rules specifically state that a four wheel drive is needed when traveling in the snow or rain. 2. There are plenty of trash bags provided for guests, but due to the remote location of the property, trash pick up is not possible. Therefore, guests must take their trash to the waste/refuge site down the highway (House Rules). As far as I know, its open seven days a week, but I will double check so that this wont be an issue for future renters. 3. There is a pretty reasonable list of things to do before checking out, like removing your personal items, not leaving dirty dishes, trash, etc. Guest are not expected to do any cleaning. 4. Nobody told you that you can not use the washing machine during your stay and nowhere are you warned that a $300 fee would be enforced if you did. 5. The fireplace gets a lot of use and may not have have been as clean as you wanted it to be, but I am certain some film on the glass wouldn't have kept you from enjoying it. As for the windows, they are cleaned seasonally and I am sorry but we have had one of the wettest winters on record. 6. Guest are able to adjust the smart thermostat so not sure why it was an issue for you, but will contact the owners to ensure this isn't an issue for future renters. 7. There is no deposit refund requirement unless guests are approved to bring a dog. The only fees requested from the owners are the booking fees including: nightly rates, cleaning fee (non-refundable), and for property damage protection (non-refundable). This is a transparent process and all fees are shown to potential renters before they book the property. Any additional fees are directly from VRBO. Again, really appreciate that you chose the Wapiti Run Retreat for your getaway and I am sorry you didn't contact me during your stay.
