Epic Mountaintop Jungle Cottage Adventure

"Refugio Mountain Retreat" is a one-of-a-kind off-grid mountain hideaway! The Epic Mountain Jungle Cottage is the main house on our farm located near the top of a mountain on an old coffee plantation, with expansive views, fresh air, blue skies, pure mountain spring water, and an assortment of in-season tropical fruits. The property encompasses 40 acres but is surrounded by hundreds of acres of pristine jungle and mountain ridges along with miles of hiking trails with some of the most scenic views in all of Puerto Rico.

The main house has two floors. The upstairs features two spacious, charming queen bedrooms with very comfy beds, and a newly renovated bathroom (shower).

The first floor includes a sitting area/living room, a dedicated workspace with a large desk, a comfortable convertible couch (to bed), and a full kitchen stocked with everything you need to cook full meals, including gas stove (4 burner), large toaster oven, microwave, instant pot, tea kettle, blender, coffee maker, baking dishes, large refrigerator with ice maker, etc.

Just outside the kitchen door is a spacious covered porch with a coffee station, hammock, swinging chair, and a large dining table from which you can enjoy while dining or relaxing, the expansive views of the valley below and the tropical yard surrounded by herb gardens and banana trees.

There are many opportunities for sitting in nature on the lawn or on various patios. Be sure to utilize our luxurious relaxation and healing services in our new open-air spa overlooking a jungle ravine. We will send you a brochure of spa services (and one-of-a-kind excursion adventures) once you have booked your stay. Per guest comments, we recommend at least a 3-night stay to be able to fully enjoy all that this special property has to offer. Note: The Cottage is located in very close proximity to the smaller casita Coffee House that is also rented on Airbnb. There may be other guests during your visit depending on whether the other unit is booked. And the hosts will also be sharing some of the same outdoor spaces and occasionally walking by your rental unit . If you are looking for absolute privacy with no hosts or staff on hand, please consider booking a different location.

Our property is remote and ideally suited to guests who are looking to unplug, commune with nature, find spiritual and emotional healing (inquire about our many therapeutic services), and/or guests who also want to explore some of the nearby attractions, like the well-known Canyon Blanco, or Tanama River. There’s also the option of booking one of our guided experiences to a special off-the-beaten-path adventure. Our property includes several miles of epic self-guided hiking trails. In order to take full advantage of our property and surrounding attractions, we encourage guests to book 3 nights or more when possible.

The town of Utuado is about 30 minutes away by car on a narrow, winding road and we are located at the end of a steep 1/2 mile dirt road. We will meet you at the start of our neighborhood and then we will transport you from a parking location near the start of our property to the house if you do not have AWD/4WD. When renting a car, it's helpful to at least have a car with front wheel drive. Once you are here though, you'll literally feel like you are in paradise!

We are located about an hour and 45 minutes from either the San Juan airport or the Aguadilla airport and we are about one hour driving distance both Arecibo and Poncé. We can arrange airport transfers for a fee, either from the airport or to your next destination on the island.

You'll have access to the entire house and all outdoor spaces. The owners and one or two volunteers live nearby on property so outdoor spaces are shared, though there is plenty of room for solitude.
