We completely adored our stay at the cabin. It was cozy, had a wonderful indoor/outdoor living atmosphere. We loved the wildlife and plant life, from the frogs, lizards, to the cats and fowl. We used the binoculars to collect a few new birds for our life list. Cooking at the cabin was especially enjoyable, we cooked most meals with things from the local market and couldn't get enough of meals made on the brick oven barbecue! We had some area adventures planned but ended up spending most of our time relaxing at the cabin we loved it so much!

Relax at the cabin in the moutains

This cabin is a little paradise hidden in the mountains. Decorated with taste, very well appointed with an outside little pool and a nice terasse, it is one of the most enchanting Air B&B we have been . The directions given by the owner were clear, we easily found the place despite a late evening arrival. Do not hesitate to book your stay there !

Great spot so peaceful

Such a peaceful stay. Pool was heated with jets and great to relax in daily. Host kept in good contact and asked how are stay was going every couple days which I appreciated. Good amount of games to play which was a nice touch. Selectos and Walgreens was 10 minutes away which was nice

Nice place, nice quiet secure location. Excellent spot for birders or nature lovers. Hummingbirds at the flowering plants, a resident owl in the backyard on the first night, Coquis everywhere (except where not wanted ), several PR Amazons seen along the road past the campground, highly recommend walking the road with a headlamp at night...lots of moths and bats buzzing by my head; really cool, 13 owls heard while walking the road as late as 9:30 am. Nice decor and amenities, from the fireplace, heated tub, and covered outdoor seating, to the games, washer/dryer, and gated entry. Comfortable and plentiful furniture, seating, and beds. No a/c but fans are in the rooms; quite comfortable in Feb - fans not needed. Host was quick to respond to a normal maintenance issue once notified. Highly recommend checking out the Aqua cave (portions of the trail is quite muddy after rain)...park at the unfortunately defunct campground gate and walk to the trail head (was told by a aviary employee that the "do not enter" signs are more of a "enter at you own risk" type thing as they are unfortunately not maintained. Couldn't figure out the trail to Alta Cave, we seemed close but the trail was overgrown...yes, this included passing the gate at the campground. I spent 10 hours on the road and and a couple trails past the campground in mid-Feb and only saw the aviary workers doing their parrot nest work...nobody else.

Its Ok

Place is beautiful, but we lost power for couple hours. In daytime inside the cabin is very hot. No A/C and the jacuzzi the water is very hot as well Outside the cabin its too many cats. So we stay for 2 nights. Thanks God!

I'm very sorry for your inconvenience and that it was so hot those days. The cabin explains that we don't have air conditioning or a generator; we just installed the generator. I left the Jacuzzi on with the heater, for your comfort, but I see I was wrong. The heater could have been turned off if you didn't like it. I understand the situation with the cats; it's an island-wide problem. Many people throw them away and they breed, so they come here, and guests give them food. I do too, since I'm an animal lover. If they don't want them around, just a little water spray from the hose is enough. I'm looking for an organization to capture and sterilize them. I recommend you choose a hotel instead of the countryside for your next stay.

It’s better than the listing suggests.

It’s totally secluded, has a nice little pool that we used twice but honestly it was the serenity of the place that made it so wonderful. It is among the top 3 places I’ve stayed. And that includes Europe, and the US.

Relaxing in nature

Simple, very remote holiday home accommodation, but lacking nothing. Perfectly equipped, with a small pool and wonderful birdsong and crickets chirping, even at night. Up to 6 cats come to visit every day. Access to the property and house is well organized. WiFi available, otherwise no WiFi.

This is such a wonderful property in the beautiful mountains of Puerto Rico. It was close enough to the town of Utuado that we could go grab dinner or groceries, but far enough that we felt as if we were in the middle of nowhere. So quiet and peaceful. My kids spent hours searching the property for frogs and lizards and loved it when the cats, chickens and dogs came to visit. The pool was also so nice for relaxing and the hammock was argued over.The cabin had everything we needed and Rosario was kind enough to leave a basket of delicious snacks. Roasrio was in touch to make sure that we had everything we needed and I really appreciated her communication. Overall, such a great cabin and a beautiful, unique area of Puerto Rico!

Excellent location in the forest

This place was great - we stayed here so we could easily get to one of the river adventures that is about 30 minutes away. It is a simple cottage but has everything we needed for a few nights. It’s nice to get away from the crowded tourist areas and relax by the little pool. The owner was helpful with information and quick to get back to us when we had questions. I do feel the price is a little high, but not unreasonable.

RELAXING

This place is so cozy and relaxing! The outside was our favorite part! You are surrounded by the sounds of nature! There were so many beautiful birds, little lizards, coqui frogs, fruits, vegetables, plants, it’s great! The inside was perfect for my husband and I with an extra bedroom. THIS is Puerto Rico! It’s not all beautiful beaches and waterfalls, the rain forests are amazing❤️

Incredible Property

Rosario’s property is an incredible find! I spent a week here while working in the area, and it was perfect. Its location tucked away inside the Rio Abajo forest is prefect for getting some peace and quiet. There is no AC but the fans, and dehumidifier inside of the home make the home quite tolerable during those hot days (not to mention the pool as well.) Rosario was also super helpful with providing information about the rental, as well as things to do in the surrounding area. I would definitely recommend this listing to anyone who’s looking for a little extra peace and quiet. I personally will definitely be staying again.

Owner cancelled, but VRBO customer service is awful .Just like your parent company Expedia,it is impossible to get things done on a timely or correct basis. Timely as in 7 days. I dont expect things to work smoothly right now....but you sure can send a survey out. Why go to the expense when you know the answer???

Amazing Home in Utuado Mountains

The home was really nice. It is a cabin in the mountains of Utuado. The cabin is surrounded by mountains on three sides and sits on a clearing between the mountains. The hostess was great. She sent us info on things to do and places to eat. We took her up on her pizza recommendation and it was well worth it. The cabin doesn’t have AC, so we had to use the fans and open the windows. This was awesome as we heard coquis, crickets and even a rooster in the morning. It was like having your own white noise. The jacuzzi was fabulous and it helped to cool the family after a long day of exploring around the island. The hostess also has banana trees on the property and gave us permission to pull some down to have for breakfast. The only drawback was some pesky feral cats from the nearby neighborhood who came by every night as we were eating. Outside of that it was a perfect rustic mountain property for a quick stay.

beautiful location, incredible place, infrastructure challenges

This cabin is truly special and the host extremely communicative. I wish I didn’t have to cut my trip short but the power went out 4 times in a little more than a week. As a Puerto Rican myself I am really conscious about the unfair issues with the electrical grid, which hit rural locations hardest and affect people’s livelihoods. But the truth is that while I was there the power went out so much that I had to leave early. She was very accommodating and refunded several nights’ stay which I really appreciate. I really hope it’s within the owner’s reach to go off the grid somehow. It just seems that this particular spot is chronically affected by these issues, worse than in other places in Puerto Rico. I mention this because existing reviews don’t and people should understand that they could be experiencing similar challenges.

Hola! I am Rosario .I grew part of my life in this family country house , enjoying the nature and mountains at Bosque Rio Abajo and at the north-coast, 15 minutes in my hometown Arecibo.The perfect balance !
The log cabin has been part of my life since I was a child and this is the reason I enjoy nature so much and want you to share you to have this experience and enjoy as much as I do.

this inherited log cabin in the Rio Abajo Forest provide a very special lovely place in the Rio Abajo forest; Secluded and secured place but accesible to airports, beaches, north and south side of the Island.The log cabin was acquired by my father during the 60's whereThe first Peace Corps where stablished . Rio Abajo Forest is a forested preserve in Puerto Rico owned by the Department of Natural Resources. It consists mostly of subtropical wet and moist karst forest. Mogotes and sinkholes fill the landscape. It is home to plant and wildlife species that include endangered species such as the Puerto Rican broad-winged hawk (Buteo platypterus brunnescens), the Puerto Rican boa (Chilabothrus inornatus), and a captive population of critically endangered Puerto Rican parrots (Amazona vittata). Captive parrots are slowly being released into Rio Abajo in an attempt to form a second population.

Great location , near North and South of the Island, mountains and beach, near main roads and also secluded and private. this is a special neighborhood, where in the 60"s during Kennedy's presidency, choose this forest to open 2 base camps and the first ones in the world to trained people for all over the worlds mission "Peace Corps"; you are just in front of one, Crozier Camp. Also you are near our Puertorican Parrot sanctuary, our Amazon,Now people of the community are working to Also at the end of road 621, in the second camp , Now is the sanctuary of our Parrot/ Amazona Vittata.
