The room was exactly as described. Great location in the Kaanapali area. The bed was comfy, kitchen fully equipped and it was nice to have access to beach chairs, boogie boards and umbrella. The only downside is that the room faces the highway so when doors were open, we mostly heard traffic and construction- so not a place to sleep with windows/ doors open and not really great for hanging out on the lanai. We didn’t really mind as we didn’t hang out in the room much. But the resort is very nice and clean and well-run.

Great Resort

We love staying at the Honua Kai Resort. Pool is great, plenty of space, and easy walk to beach. Also nice to have pool service from Dukes if you want. Easy walk to Whalers Village and many options for drinks and dinner.

Family celebration

I’ve stayed at this resort several times, different units. This was the smallest one bedroom but it worked out. My brother said the sofa bed was good. We all enjoyed the resort and beach.

Great condo - everything you need! We LOVED it!

Totally impressed with our stay at Honua Kai! Beautiful condo, kitchen fully stocked & so quiet. The pools were great, our 9 year olds were never bored! They made it so easy! We were greeted as soon as we pulled up (so great after a long day of traveling) & were lead directly to into the condo. Dont worry if you forget something, the two stores on the main level are sure to have ANYTHING you need. All of the Valets were super nice and very accommodating. We had an amazing stay! Thank you! We can’t wait to go back!!

We love Honua Kai

We had a lovely stay at your place. The bed and sheets were excellent and very comfortable. Everything needed in kitchen and bathroom was provided and much appreciated. I have a only couple suggestions. Let people know they need to bring pool towels with them to the pool/beach. The shower head is the worst and should be updated. Bath towels are very thin and sad and should be replaced. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay again Tracy and Jim

Great stay!

We had a incredible stay at this VRBO at Honua Kai. I was VERY hesitant in booking and almost canceled my reservation due to the bad reviews but they were so inaccurate and I am so glad we did not cancel. We are a family of 4 with 2 kids (ages 2 and 5). The dryer worked fine and we had no issues. Towels were not thin, and were new looking. No one slept on the sofa couch but it was comfortable to sit on and watch TV. AC worked fine and had no issues. There were plenty of laundry pods, dishwashing detergent, cleaning supplies etc. It's located in the Hokulani Tower Building and is close by to everything. Parking was easy. On arrival, our key code didn't work, but I was able to follow the directions and call in and get it fixed within 5 minutes. Overall, I would stay here again!

An enjoyable stay at the Honua Kai Resort

Our family of 4 + an infant found the unit very clean and the property owners made sure that there was enough supplies to get by our stay. The location of the beach front resort is beautiful with several pools everyone can enjoy. Just note that the wrist bands provided by the property manager does not get access to towels. Beach towels are provided in the unit among others which included beach chairs that probably need replacement because the hinges were rusty and were hard to set up. But we are glad that these were provided as we were able to use them on 2 occasions. We appreciate having a kitchen with cookware and utensils for our use. May I suggest that the property owner/manager replace the sofa bed as it was in bad shape i.e. spring missing and mattress needed to be replaced! Mahalo!

Last Minute Substitution.

I was notified with only a few weeks before my rental date that the unit that I had paid for was no longer available and that I could accept their substitute property or get a refund. I accepted the substitute property only because it was too late to find any other property that would suit our needs or be near our family that would be there in their own unit. They had me over a barrel and I had to take it or leave it. Cancel all my plans, car rental and abandon my family. The substitute property was remote and had no fitness center. I will never book with third party again.

Wonderful but a sour start

The room was excellent, well maintained, and contained everything we needed. Our biggest issue was guidance around arrival. There were no details other than parking is free and the room number. The resort though has multiple buildings and parking lots for various purposes with a lot of signage requiring permits/key card access. Being rented on vrbo through an off site property manager led to a lot of confusion about the very basic of where our room was. The property doesn’t have any maps or signs to indicate where to go. We spent over an hour trying to communicate with physical people who technically weren’t there to support us and by phone with a poor property management agent who had no additional directions. In general the actual stay was great, but more directions about where to park and go to find the room from someone who has actually been to the property would have improved the experience immensely.

Don't Stay Here!!

I've stayed at Honua Kai 6 times, including this room. Owners and property managers like the ones that have this unit are the ones bringing the ratings of Honua Kai down. This unit doesn't appear to have been updated in any way over the past 13 years since the hotel opened. .This is listed as 1 bedroom with 2 beds (sofa bed). However, the sofa bed is completely unusable. You're laying on metal springs with no padding whatsoever. They stick in your back and you'll get no sleep. I called the property manager many times and they did nothing. I told them a twin roll away would be fine but they wouldn't rent one. They said I could get an air mattress after paying for a condo with 2 beds. Honestly, this should be expected in such a nasty unit. The carpets are disgustingly filthy and stick to your feet. This is exactly what you would expect in a Motel 6 where you feel you have to wear socks. or you'll catch something. The furniture has knicks all over it and the bathtub has rust in places. The cushions on the kitchen chairs are also filthy. The kitchen is missing so many essential items that it makes it tough to cook They only provide a few towels so you'll constantly be doing laundry. However, there's something wrong with the dryer. It takes about 3-4 hours to dry a few extremely thin small old mismatched towels. I could go on and on. This is a terrible unit and not like the rest of Honua Kai. Find another room to stay in and avoid the unresponsive property owners. They're trying to get as much money as possible out of people without investing anything back into the unit. It's too expensive to get to Hawaii to waste your vacation on this unit and these people.

We apologize that your last minute vacation didn't so great, However, we did investigate the communication we had with you and our team and you stated you were going to leave a bad review and it will cost us $$. We tried to reach out to you and you never responded back, which didn't give us fair chance to resolve the bedding and couch. As far as the floors and dryer, this is the 1st of hearing about it. The unit was nice. They do not leave enough supplies for the week so you will have to buy your own. We found some bugs but they came and sprayed. Washer did not work but was fixed during our stay. First door code did not work which was frustrating so we had to wait for it to be changed to enter the unit.

We love Honua Kai

We stayed here for 9 days, 2 adults and 2 kids ages 13 and 11. The room was very nice and as described. Communication was great and everything was explained very clearly. We enjoyed eating breakfast on the balcony with view of the mountains. We would stay here again. We love Honua Kai!

Needs revamping

Crumbs on table top, potato chips on carpet. Outside chairs are coming apart, inside dining chairs need new cushions, no spatula in kitchen, only 2 teaspoons, carpet needs cleaning.

wonderful resort

Our time spent at Honua Kai was more than just a dream. the resort is beyond fantastic and great location to so many excursions. I've stayed there many times and will continue to go back. Property manager was easy to communicate with! thank you!
