Magnificent home with character in every room. Amazing views of the water and very well kept grounds. Awesome hiking trail right across the street and one can spend endless hours just listening to the waves. Hosts are attentive and instructions are great. If you understand the intricacies of staying on the Island, this property is one of the best available.

Windward Way is a beautiful property. The kitchen and living spaces are gorgeous. The view is stunning. We enjoyed the water access, lake side deck, inner tubes and tree house. There were some challenges with the home for our group with the largest one being the lack of five true bedrooms. One bedroom overlooks the kitchen via a half-wall and has a wooden ladder leading to a loft inside it. Both of those “rooms” are acoustically connected to a third room overlooking the back of the property. This was not ideal for our group of multiple family units but we made it work. There are also no blinds or curtains on many of the bedroom windows. We appreciated the toilet and sink in the laundry room on the second floor though the nightlight went out after two days and no replacement bulbs could be found. The large, well-equipped, kitchen and oversized fridge was great for our large group but only three burners on the stove worked for us. We especially appreciated that there were enough utensils and plates to make it through multiple meals each day.The house was clean with the exception of the main bathroom shower mat. There were not quite enough towels for everyone to have a separate bath and beach towel for a group our size (12). Overall we enjoyed our stay and the location was great but the listing should be updated to provide an accurate description of the bedroom situation and items in the home should be in good working order and fully stocked prior to each rental.

What a beautiful stay we had at this charming lake home! We were lucky to enjoy wonderful early October weather, and when the evenings turned chilly, we gathered around the fantastic fireplace. The home was spacious, welcoming, and beautifully equipped - especially the modern, fully stocked kitchen that had everything we needed.We celebrated an early Thanksgiving during our stay, partly because some close family joined us, but mostly because the home reminded me so much of the cozy lake cabin Thanksgivings I cherished as a child.Only after returning to the hustle and bustle of everyday life did we truly appreciate just how relaxing our time there had been. We experienced Lake Michigan up close - swimming when the weather allowed, watching stunning sunrises reflect on the water each morning, and even witnessing a spectacular “super moon” rising over the lake in the early evening.Everything about our stay was peaceful, comfortable, and rejuvenating. Our host, Michael, was attentive and responsive, offering helpful information about the island and even giving us a heads-up about the upcoming “super moon.”We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect getaway - I highly recommend it!

Our family is from Barrington, IL and we have been going up to Washington Island for over 50 years. Growing up, we spent the entire summer on the Island, played on the Little League baseball team, worked on the Ferry and the Shipyard Marina. We had no television or radio, much less internet. On rainy days, boredom could be a constant companion but was really a wonderful learning experience. It was our home away from home, and shaped who we became in our lives. Washington Island is one of the most special places you will find.

Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft

The Island is a true throw back in time...boasting no modern brands, franchises or reminders of the busy life you left behind. You will hear the term "Island Time" while you are here which means slow down and let things come. We never wore watches, left the keys in the car and hitch hiked if we didn't have a ride. It is a reminder of a different time, one we wish we could have back.

The house was originally built with no walls (with the exception of the bathroom). Simply a post and beam barn, where every noise was shared and choruses of "Good Night, John Boy" was a nightly experience (IFYKYK). The wide open space made it uniquely perfect for a movie night each year, where we showed "A Sound of Music" on a sheet from an original movie house reel projector. For a long time, the house had the "largest fireplace" on the Island, but has since lost the distinction. A black bear swam to the Island in the early 80's...something never seen before or since, and walked up on our porch, prompting our Mother to dial 911 which rang in every house on the all-volunteer fire department on the Island. She became fondly known as the "Bear Lady".
