Mentone, AL | Talking Leaves Cottage | Scenic Highway | Spacious Deck Overlooking Brow | No-Stairs Entrance | Fire Pit | Fast Wi-Fi | 4 Roku TVs | BBQ Grill | 3 Family Rooms | 2 Bathrooms | Electric Log Fireplace | Front Porch with Rocking Chairs | Dog Friendly | Hosts up to 9 Guests
Perched on the brow of Lookout Mountain along Scenic Highway in Mentone, Talking Leaves Cottage is a rare, one-level retreat where sweeping views and effortless comfort come together. Built in 1955, this spacious home offers easy, no-stairs access and invites you to slow down and settle in. Gather with family and friends in the expansive living and dining spaces, unwind on the deck as the sun dips below the horizon, or retreat to one of three generously sized family bedrooms—each designed for deep rest with multiple beds and its own large Roku TV.
Rich with character, the cottage is thoughtfully curated with vintage art and antiques that reflect the homeowners’ love of history and storytelling. The name “Talking Leaves” honors Sequoyah, the Cherokee inventor of the written language—an inspiration that adds meaning to every corner of the home. Spend your days exploring nearby waterfalls, parks, shops, and local dining, then return to quiet evenings by the fire pit or peaceful mornings on the covered patio with coffee in hand. With frequent wildlife sightings and unforgettable sunsets, this is a place to truly renew, refresh, and feel restored.
**THE RETREAT PROPERTY**
When you turn into the shared graveled driveway, you will see Talking Leaves Cottage on the right, along with your own private parking area near the home (3 cars max). There is a patio area and covered front porch with rocking chairs. This outdoor seating area is an excellent place to unwind at the end of a day full of adventures or enjoy a cup of coffee or hot tea in the morning.
Stepping inside the front door, you will love the no-stairs entrance, welcoming you to all that this peaceful retreat offers. The front entrance leads you directly into the Fireside Lodge Family Bedroom. In this room, you're greeted by a large stone fireplace with electric logs, and there is a swing-for-two next to the fireplace that makes this room even more unique and a favorite among guests :) There is a queen bed, and nearby there is a twin bed/reading nook. A 55" Roku TV is above the fireplace mantle for movie nights and streaming your own favorite channel subscriptions. Large sliding barn doors separate this front bedroom from the main living area, and there is also an entrance into the laundry room from this bedroom.
In the main living area, there is plenty of lounge seating for up to 9 guests with 3 sofas. There is a 55" Roku TV on the wall for family movie nights, and a large farmhouse-style dining table for gathering. The best feature in this area is the mountain brow view through the sliding glass doors. Nearby, there is the well-equipped kitchen area with an island for meal preparations and a pantry. In the kitchen, there is a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, electric water kettle, toaster, blender, cooking pots, can opener, pans and utensils, dishes, drinking glasses, wine glasses, eating utensils, cooking spices, coffee mugs, and more.
Between the kitchen and the dining area, there is a door leading to The Patriot Family Bedroom. In this room, there is a queen bed, twin bed and a 43" smart TV in the corner for movie nights and streaming your own favorite channel subscriptions. There is an en suite bathroom with a tub/shower combo and toilet, and next to the bathroom is a larger vanity with sink as seen in photos.
Back through the living area, there is an entrance into The Aristopup Family Bedroom. Named for the art in the room, this family room has a large king bed and twin bed. There is a 43" Roku TV on the wall for movie nights and streaming your own favorite channel subscriptions. There is also an en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, toilet and double sink vanity.
Through the sliding glass doors in the living area, there are no stairs required to step out on the back deck that overlooks the brow. The sunset views here are captivating, and there are lounging chairs to take in the views. There is also an outdoor dining table and chairs for al fresco dining, as well as a high-top table and 2 chairs. A propane BBQ grill is located nearby, and grilling utensils are located in a kitchen drawer.
Back outside, there is a fire pit with comfortable seating area as seen in photos. You are welcomed to use any small pieces of fallen wood on the property that can safely fit inside the fire pit, and the homeowner has a stack of firewood near the front porch, and you are welcome to use some for your stay also. Please only burn firewood, as the homeowners and guests roast food over this fire pit. Extendable roasters are located in the kitchen for your convenience, so be sure to bring ingredients for s'more memories :)
