O'Connor Island ist eine 1,5 Hektar große Insel in der St. Lawrence River. Das Haus befindet sich auf dem höchsten Teil der Insel, 40 Meter über dem Wasser, mit weitläufigen Decks und unvergleichlichem Blick auf den Fluss. Genießen Sie morgens einen Kaffee im Freien und nachmittags Cocktails.

Das Cottage verfügt über ein Hauptschlafzimmer mit einem Queensize-Bett und einem eigenen WC sowie ein zweites Schlafzimmer mit Etagenbetten. Das zweite Badezimmer hat eine Badewanne und Dusche. Alle Bettwäsche sind vorhanden. Im Wohnzimmer befindet sich ein großer Flachbild-Sat-TV sowie ein Blu-ray-DVD-Player. Es gibt auch einen kleinen Fernseher mit DVD-Player im Schlafzimmer mit den Etagenbetten. Das WiFi funktioniert im ganzen Haus und auf den Decks draußen.

Die Küche verfügt über eine Mikrowelle, eine Kaffeemaschine und einen 4-Flammen-Herd mit Backofen. Wasser in Flaschen zum Trinken bringen. Der Esstisch bietet Platz für 6 Personen. Das Schlafsofa bietet Platz für 2.

Die Bucht ist ideal zum Schwimmen. Das Bootshaus bietet Platz für 2 kleinere Boote und es gibt einen großen Steg für Boote bis zu einer Länge von 36 Fuß. Es gibt Landstrom im Bootshaus und auf dem Dock draußen für größere Boote.

Genießen Sie am Nachmittag die Brise vom Ontariosee. Wenn der Wind zu stark ist, ziehen Sie sich auf die Decks an der Ostseite des Hauses zurück, wo möglicherweise jemand den Gasgrill benutzt.

Müde vom Kochen? Der Ivy Lea Club hat ein Fünf-Sterne-Restaurant. Mit dem Boot sind es nur wenige Minuten. Menüs sind in der Hütte.

O'Connor Island kann vom 1. Mai 2020 bis 30. September 2020 gemietet werden.

Wir hatten eine wundervolle Zeit auf der Insel. Die Einstellung ist absolut ideal, wenn Sie Privatsphäre, Abgeschiedenheit, atemberaubende Aussichten, Sonnenaufgänge und Sonnenuntergänge bei einer Tasse Kaffee oder einem Glas Wein je nach Tageszeit genießen möchten! Was den Ort einzigartig macht, ist die Gastfreundschaft des Eigentümers. Jede andere Insel, die wir aufsuchten, schlug vor, dass wir ein Wassertaxi benutzen, um dorthin zu gelangen. John brachte uns selbst auf die Insel und bot uns während unseres Aufenthalts großzügig eine weitere Bootstour hin und her, um unseren Plänen nachzukommen, obwohl wir spät in der Nacht zurückkamen.

Location and Island was Fantastic. Cottage needs deep cleaning, windows, bathrooms...some paint and a bit of renovations. Too many dishes, coffee makers, didn't leave much space for our groceries, etc...but, all that said we had a great vacation on the Island. Thanks.

Another amazing stay.

This is definitely a hidden gem in the 1000 islands. The property is private, fully equipped and incredibly convenient. Ours daughters took the SeaDoo for a 3 minute ride to get ice cream at The Ivy. Love our days here. Already booked for this August and next summer. Family memories made.

Perfect, private oasis

This private island cottage offers clean swimming, incredible 360 degree views and great docking for our 28’ boat. The bonfire pit is gorgeous overlooking rivers edge. The owner was always quick to respond and the property was always a text away. If you are looking for a private getaway to relax, this is the best you will find! Cannot wait to go back!

Beautiful island, great location

A truly beautiful rustic cottage in the heart of the gem that is the Thousand Islands! As boaters of this area this was the perfect weekend getaway for us to brings friends to! Two couples stayed very comfortably in the cottage while we stayed in our boat with the luxury of great dock space and shore power! The island is the perfect size with an amazing beach area and fire pit, as well as plenty of lounging areas around the cottage with spectacular views! We will be booking again next year!

Amazing for a short or long, private getaway.

We absolutely love this place! The location is incredible and the water is clean to swim. I wish we could get away from work more so we could book more time there. Our teenage girls love spending time there. Privacy is amazing because you are on the island alone. Sitting on the adirondack chairs for morning coffee, listening to the loons is the best time of day! Already booked for next summer!! ❤️

Beautiful island

The location could not be better. Communication with the host was great. Cottage itself has everything you need but isn’t luxurious in any way (which it doesn’t have to be). Water isn’t potable which would be good to know in advance. We enjoyed our stay very much and I would not hesitate to rebook. Thank you!

Little piece of heaven!

We spent Canada Day weekend at O'Conor Island and it was fabulous! Great little cabin, comfortable beds, outfitted with everything we required for our stay. John was great at responding, provided recommendations for marina boat rentals (optional, I believe they offer you a ride over too). We met with Jeff, the property manager, he showed us around the cabin and was super friendly and helpful. The only downside was water levels were still high and washed out the beach area but that's through no fault of the owner. The rest of the island was fantastic, great views, plenty of seating areas and the two bathrooms was a bonus! We will be back!

Peaceful vacation

If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation, this might be it. It is a great (private) island with possibilities to do fishing, S´mores, relaxing, swimming, boating, birdwatching etc. The owner is a very kind and helpful man who took us with his boat to the island. The cottage itself sleeps 6 (2 on a sofa bed) is very rustic and basic - but is has what one needs for making food and it also has internet and TV, incase one decides to stay indoors. What really blew us away was the view, the rich flora and fauna and of course just having the entire island for ourselves. Make sure to bring drinking water, suncream and loads of books and games. If you like rustic and nature, you'll love it here! PS we are a family of five with younger kids. The cottage has a full size fridge and a freezer, that fit food and drinks for 5 people for four days :-)

The View!

Gorgeous views from O'Conner Island! John is a pleasure to work with and a wonderful host. The island is just beautiful and is located in a perfect spot. The cabin is well appointed for six people and the wifi and satellite TV were really appreciated. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked with great pots, pans, and accessories. The boathouse was perfect for our boat and jet ski. Great fishing area and we loved watching the eagles fly around the island. My only suggestion would be (to have the option) to have the house professionally cleaned prior to arrival. I would have paid a cleaning fee to have the house scrubbed and dusted professionally and the kitchen, floors and bathrooms scrubbed. Other than that, it was a perfect vacation and we plan to return!! Thanks John! The Hayes'

We had an amazing week on O’Connor Island! The weather was very hot which made for lots of time spent in the beautiful water swimming. The swimming area is so nice and clean and has next to no weeds which I loved. The boat house was excellent, we didn’t have to worry about bad weather and if the boat would be ok. The cottage is great - nothing fancy but everything was clean, it’s stocked with everything you need and it’s a perfect, cozy cottage with lots of room and storage. Even though it was so hot when we were there the first week of July, there is a great cross breeze and fans throughout the cottage which made sleeping easy. We absolutely loved the peacefulness of the area and having a whole island to ourselves! We sat in the Adirondack chairs every night watching the fireworks over the weekend and watching the moon rise. Eric and Jeff are great and both are very responsive to questions leading up to our stay and while we were there. We have been vacationing in The 1000 Islands for the past 4 years now renting cottages on different islands and we have now found our favourite and the one we want to return to each year!

Rustic getaway

If you are looking for the perfect "get-away-from-it-all" location, this, is it! You will be in a rustic setting with plenty of hot water for washing up after a busy day exploring the thousand Islands, spending quality time around the campfire or simply admiring the enormous view from one of the many decks on all four sides of the cottage. Fishing on these picturesque waters is world renowned and the mainland is a mere 8 to10 minutes away on either side if you decide to venture back into civilization. Bring your own drinking water, or rough it by boiling your own. Plenty of equipment in the kitchen - enough for as many people as you want to fit in the cottage. The King size bed in the main BR is new and comfortable. The "no curtains" special feature is awesome for star gazing should you happen to wake up in the middle of the night. Great docking area for your boat, and Peck's Marina has a good assortment of boats if you need one. The closest thing to civilization on the Island is the high speed internet and satellite TV - both optional of course if you are there to totally "unplug".

Spectacular Location and beautiful views

My family and I spent a great 8 nights on O’Conor island. The pros: - the island is in the perfect location for getting almost anywhere. We boated up to Rockport for dinner, down to Gananoque for lunch, Pecks or the Ivy Lea Club are only minutes away. - the island is great for exploring and swimming - I spent many hours sitting on one of the many strategically placed decks, reading and watching the word go bye - at night you would hear loons calling over and over again - the internet was fast for rainy afternoons Or when the kids needed a break - the kitchen is quite well equipped The cons: - The cottage is rustic, with a lot of character, but it is definitely from another era. This means things are a little smaller, a little more worn. - it could use a thorough pressure wash and paint job. - the boat house has been taken over by a flock of swallows. It’s fun to see them flying around and we even saw a nest of babies, but it makes it difficult to park your boat inside. There is still ample dockage. Overall a great place to stay and I would go back again. Thanks for sharing it with us John!

Wonderful property for a relaxing vacation on the water

We would highly recommend this property to others who love the water and the privacy of their own little island. The cabin and the rest of the property was clean, neat and comfortable for three adults. John, the generous host, provided excellent customer service. Before our arrival, he sent us welcoming and informative emails, he met us at Peck's Marina where we rented a small boat and he personally escorted us to the island and gave us a tour of the property. Renting a boat certainly enhanced our stay on the island as we were able to explore the area, by water, every day. Having exclusive access to the boathouse was another bonus. All of the basic amenities were provided to make our stay comfortable. A flat screen TV and access to wifi certainly helped keep us entertained. The only reason that we did not give this review 5 stars is because we learned, after our arrival, that we needed to boil all of our drinking water. a bit of a nuisance as we were three adults who were always thirsty as it was pretty hot the days we were on the island. The need to boil drinking water could have been emphasized in an email before we arrived. If you are looking for a unique and relaxing summer vacation spot, consider Butternut Island. Although the official name is O'Connor Island, it has long been known by the locals as Butternut Island, due to the presence of a grove of Butternut trees during the early part of the 20th century down near the cove. Until 1956 the only structure on the island was a "hunter's shack" with neither water nor electricity. It was purchased by my great aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. Harry F. Pennington of Meriden, CT that year. They converted the existing structure into what is now the two bedrooms and two bathrooms, enlarged the cottage to what is now the living room and kitchen, and built the decks and a boathouse. Plumbing was installed, and the hot water heater, refrigerator, and stove were fueled by propane. Electricity was supplied for lights and small appliances by a generator located in the pump house. The cottage was wired in such a way that, when a light switch was turned on, the generator would start. In 1967, Dr. Pennington passed away, but Mrs. Pennington spent every summer here for the next 25 years. She had telephone service installed after his death for extra security. In the spring 1987, five of the islands (including Butternut) signed up for Hydro (electricity). The generator disappeared, and electric appliances replaced the propane. Two years later the now existing boathouse replaced a much smaller one. The island was passed along to my father and Aunt. Our families spent every summer here as their children were growing up. As we married and had their own families, the island was visited less frequently. In 2014 the decision was made to share this unbelievable destination with others. To that end, some furniture was replaced, and Wi-Fi and satellite TV were installed. We sincerely hope that you, our guests, enjoy the island as much as we do when we are here. Sadly in 2021 my father died and the island was passed down to myself and sister. We have been slowly been making improvements to the cottage each year since his passing.

This vacation destination offers something for everyone. For those seeking privacy and relaxation, the island is yours and yours alone. The only sound you will hear is the call of the loons in the morning, and the occasional flock of geese flying by. There is definitely no need to lock the doors at night! On the other hand, there is much to do a short boat ride back to your car. For those so inclined, there is a Casino just outside Gananoque. This town, just a few kilometers away on the 1000 Islands Parkway, calls itself the "Canadian Gateway to the 1000 Islands". Enjoy shopping on King Street. Spend some time by the river where the Gananoque Boat Line Tours come and go. There is an interesting Museum there, which is free but donations are accepted. Be sure to have an ice cream cone across the street, but only order one scoop - it is all you can handle! The Gananoque Boat Line offers a 1 hour tour, a 2 hour tour (which passes by O"Connor Island), and a 5 hour tour with an unlimited stopover at Boldt Castle. For those who like live theater. the 1000 Islands Playhouse offers performances daily except Mondays. The playhouse can be reached either by car or by boat. Back at the island, you can keep the children busy all day fishing off the dock. Be sure to use hooks without barbs for easy catch and release. The fish love bologna. When the Canada geese come by, give the kids some bread to feed them in the cove. Swimming in the cove is excellent because the water is shallow and protected from the wind. In the afternoon or evening you can toast marsh mellows in the grove. There is a fire pit for that purpose. Finally, there is always the board games, Wi-Fi, and streaming services on those wet days stuck inside. Enjoy your stay!

The view is worth the price of admission. We were lucky enough to have a island that has elevation change so you can see so much or the river, and also do not have any neighbors to share the island with. To have complete privacy on your vacation has always been important to us and we are sure that is for your family as well.

We also have been slowly making improvements each off season. Nothing major, we always want to have the cottage feel, but we do realize this is 2020s and not 1955. So each year we have done some minor changes. New roof, new windows, modern appliances, and so on. Our big projects for the off seasons of 2023, 2024, and 2026 will be; new living room furniture, new floors in the grand room, updates to both bathrooms, and a major overhaul of the boat house. We are hoping to turn the upstairs/loft of the boathouse into a play area for kids and teens who need time away from mom and dad on the long stays stuck in the rain.

My sister and I have been coming up every summer since 1977 and it is a true family getaway and we want to keep it that way. You will never see marble countertops in the kitchen or super high end fixtures in the bathrooms. We want to keep this feeling like a cottage until the next generation comes along and decides what they would like to do with it. We do out best to make you feel like you are staying with the extended families of Mackenzie's and Pennington's.
