First impression of the cottage was clean and well kept.

The beaches of Barbuda are the most beautiful I have ever seen and I am well traveled. However. The bugs. Our cottage was SWARMING with thousands of sand flies. Dead and alive. In our beds. In our suitcases. Our bodies were covered in bites by the time we left. It was so disgusting we left a day early and went to Antigua. There is no food on the island. Uncle Roddys is your only option unless you plan ahead. There are NO breakfast options beware!!! If you don't rent a car to drive 20 minutes to the town market that may or may not have editable food for you to make for meals you may starve. The key to our rental car broke off I. The ignition and they charged ME $150 when we were without a car for an entire day. Then the ferry called Kelcina and claimed we didn't pay our way for the ferry and Kelcina had the audacity to ask me to send my personal credit card information via text to a strange number. Um no. There was a maid who came everyday and did absolutely nothing about the dead bug corpses in our cottage and she left us towels once in 5 days. Will I go back? Absolutely not. It was a nightmare vacation. The best food is Byrons Cafe which is hit or miss if it is open.

We are sorry your stay wasn't as enjoyable as others. We were surprised by your review as we didn't receive any indication or complaints during the duration of your stay as we had talked daily , and only found out after your departure. We did a thorough inspection of the bugs in the cottage, and took pictures after you left, however we didn't find the amount that you exclaimed to find in your review. We provide all of our guests with information and products to prevent bug bites at dusk. Maid service is available at the cottages for an additional fee when requested. Our cleaner is responsible for sweeping sand off the front porch and will only enter the premises when permitted. Because we are environmentally friendly towels are replenished only when requested by the guests. We are happy to announce that Uncle Roddys restaurant is under the management of Barbuda cottages with regular hours of operation for lunch and dinner . There are other dining options available in the village which can be found on Barbuda's information website. Barbuda cottages can provide the service of stocking fridges prior to arrivals with fresh groceries, produce and specialty items. Local grocers can be found in the village which many tourists enjoy driving to and exploring. In regards to the ferry, there was an issue with the payment in which the organizers wanted to get the police involved. We only provide the option of sending your credit card information to the coordinator., to have the issue be resolved as efficiently and quickly as possible. However, this option was not mandatory. Barbuda is not for everyone. It is a secluded, unspoiled , hidden treasure for those with a desire for peace , tranquility and miles of beaches to yourself. Recharging Week of a Lifetime

Our cottage was lovely and we had the beaches of Barbuda virtually all to ourselves throughout our stay. Kelcina is a warm and gracious host who befriended us and helped us navigate all that Barbuda had to offer. The food at Uncle Roddy's was delicious and the staff there were friendly and welcoming. Barbuda is an unspoiled paradise unlike anything else within the means of the average traveler. Do not go to Barbuda if you are looking for fast-paced entertainment and lots of organized activities. But if, like us, you need solitude, peace, relaxation, and some of the most beautiful and secluded beaches in the world, Barbuda must be on your bucket list. Another reviewer commented about the bugs (sand flies) and there is no doubt about the fact they are nasty little things. We also came back with our share of bites, but it was well worth it. Kelcina provides all the tips and products you need to minimize the unpleasantness of the sand flies. I would never let that keep us from going back, which we hope to do one day. There is a lovely restaurant in town called the Art Cafe, and there are street vendors selling food there as well. There is a certain extent to which going to Barbuda entails a little bit of 'roughing it,' with bumpy roads, only a couple of tiny grocery stores, and only a few dining and entertainment options. But this was perfect for us, and we were richly rewarded. Kelcina arranged a ridiculously affordable boat tour of the bird sanctuary followed by a private lunch at a restaurant accessible only by boat at a private beach. She also arranged a rent car which allowed us to explore various parts of this enchanting little island. Kelcina is not just the property owner, but she works as your personal concierge throughout your stay. If staying at an all-inclusive resort like Sandals is your idea of the perfect vacation, then don't go to Barbuda and stay at Barbuda Cottages. But if you want to experience what it's like to have the seclusion and beauty of virtually-private beaches that only celebrities can normally afford, this is the place for you. Come here to escape the crowds and escape your responsibilities and have the experience of a lifetime. Kelcina will help you arrange it all.

Amazing experience

Our family loved our stay in the cottages. Our host Kelcina was incredible as well. The cottage was very clean, fully-appointed, plus architecturally interesting and well built. They are situated close to the water & up high (tropical style) on rigid stilts to catch the breezes. When we arrived we found that Kelcina had already stocked the fridge with fruit, pastries, beer & juices plus bottled water too. We had brought some canned goods with us from Antigua so we were all set. No need to spend any of our first day shopping. The beaches are beautiful. There are also stand-up paddle boards, beach chairs & shade palapas. The town (short drive) is very small and absolutely NOT "tourist trappy" at all. There are NO tourist shops. That may bother some people but we embraced it. The no-schlock aspect of town was refreshing. Everything in town is simply there for the locals. So you shop & eat with the residents of the island. It's fantastic. If you crave an authentic & Non-Disney type experience this is it! --------------------the Real Deal. Yes, there's sand flies. But they seem to fly about only during the evening hours between 4 and 7 PM. Before & after that they are a non- issue. Use your screens during those hours. Kelcina was so gracious to our family. When she heard that our daughter had a cold, she surprised us later with a pot of home-made chicken soup! That doesn't happen at corporate hotel. Kelcina had arranged for a car rental for us and she also booked the frigate bird tour, including a half-day at 17-mile beach. We also met her lovely daughter Allison. The Prime Minister of Antigua & Barbuda stays at The Cottages. And Barbuda was a favorite of Princess Diana. So you are in good company! We enjoyed walking to Uncle Roddy's to eat the great food & ice cream. And hearing the occasional braying of the wild donkeys was hilarious. Overall we couldn't have asked for a better low-key, & chill vacation.
