This custom three-story penthouse condo was completed in 2004 and has been single-owner since the beginning. It is architecturally striking with a round grass-thatch palapa roof over the living-room/kitchen area and another square palapa roof over the central stairwell connecting the three levels. It has been vacation-rented off and on over the past twenty years and is being put back into the vacation rental pool in May 2024 after a three-year stint of just-the-owners time. We've made a number of nice updates during this exclusive time, including a renovation of the private rooftop jacuzzi and patio area.
The large master bedroom on the first floor of the condo (second floor of the building), like the living room above it, is round in shape and is quite spacious, with a built-in kitchenette counter on one side of the room. French doors walk out to a lovely private terrace looking down into the tropical courtyard and pool. The terrace has several tables and, if you like, a comfy hammock (stored in the chest at the foot of the bed when not in use). The room is nicely equipped with a king sized bed, flat-screen TV, water cooler, and spacious master bath.
The second bedroom, also on the first floor, has a queen sized bed, and, like the master, has a flat-screen TV, water cooler, and nicely equipped private bathroom. Several renovations in the past few years include a tear-out of the original plaster drop ceiling in the bathroom and replacement with a custom wooden-palapa themed ceiling and a matching large vanity mirror.
The third bedroom is on the second floor off of the living-room/kitchen and has a queen bed. It has a door into the third bathroom, which also has a separate door for use by the main areas on that floor. Like the bathroom in the second bedroom below, the original plaster drop ceiling has been recently removed and replaced with a much more stylish wooden-palapa style ceiling, as well as the matching large vanity mirror.
The kitchen is nicely equipped with upscale stainless appliances imported from the U.S. -- Viking gas cooktop and KitchenAide refrigerator, oven, and microwave. We know that most vacation renters don't really want to spend a lot of time cooking meals -- but if you do, you will be well equipped to do so. A hand-shaped marble peninsula separates the kitchen from the living room.
The living room is topped by a dramatic story-and-a-half teepee shaped palapa roof. A cozy loft juts out over a portion of the living room and has a stylish wooden ladder climbing up along the wall to reach it. Don't worry -- the loft is also accessible from the rooftop terrace the old-fashioned way -- via a door. Like the master bedroom below, the living room has French doors leading out to a large wrap-around terrace looking out on the courtyard. Several tables provide a nice place to enjoy a drink or a light dinner.
The rooftop terrace, on the third level of the condo, has been nicely redone over the past few years. The custom jacuzzi has been stripped down, renovated with new jets, filter pump, heater, and tiling (heater off during the hot day but on for night-time soaks is the way to go). The wooden pergola over the jacuzzi has been rebuilt from scratch and a number of potted palms, bamboos, and other plants make it a wonderful oasis to enjoy a lazy Saturday afternoon.
The condo being in the epicenter of Playa makes for a great vibe and an easy stroll out to dining, shopping, and the beach. However, it is also very close to a number of nightclubs that play loud music late into the night -- so be aware of that. We've found that any number of "rain for sleeping" videos available on Youtube playing on the TV drowns out the party atmosphere enough to make sleeping at night just fine.
We believe this is one of the nicer condos in Playa and believe you will enjoy your stay here.
