NEWLY LISTED as of June 2024. This home offers complete privacy in a tranquil forest setting, surrounded by second-growth redwoods, ferns, and Japanese Maples from the west, east, and south. The lush grounds back into the Sonoma Land Trust's Freezeout Redwoods Watershed Preserve, nestled within the picturesque Sonoma Beach State Park. The architect-designed house boasts solid craftsmanship, picturesque views, and includes two bedrooms and two bathrooms over two levels. A new 2024 hot tub is adjacent to the downstairs bedroom, while a heated patio with BBQ on the upper deck overlooks the Russian River ravine and surrounding hillsides. This section of the Russian River is uniquely wild and undeveloped, frequently visited by foxes, deer, river otters, and seals swimming upstream from Jenner. The area is also an open aviary, home to egrets, herons, ducks, mallards, shorebirds, songbirds, and raptors like ospreys and occasionally bald eagles.

Beyond the property, guests can enjoy walking-distance river access and the popular Islands in the Sky trails for horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking. Kayak rentals availqble a few minutes from the property. The historic town of Duncans Mills is a scenic one-mile walk away, offering various local events and activities (https://duncansmillsvillage.com/events/). Nearby attractions include renowned wineries crafting Russian River Pinot Noirs, such as Fort Ross, Hartford Family Winery, Korbel, and Iron Horse. A few miles east leads guests to the Northwood Golf Course, designed by famous golf course designer Dr. Alister MacKenzie (known for Augusta National, Pasatiempo, and Cypress Point). Golf.com ranks it as the 30th best 9-hole course globally, and TravelAwaits.com places it as the 8th best public course in California. The majestic Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Preserve is a few miles further east, in Guerneville, which boasts massive first-growth Redwood stands. From the property, a seven-mile drive west leads to the mouth of the Russian River at Jenner and the dramatic beaches of West Sonoma County, featuring hiking trails and tidepools. Close to Jenner, the Kortum hiking trail leads to the famous Sunset Boulders, a blueschist rock formation believed to have been used by mammoths as a scratching post 40,000 years ago. Whether exploring West Sonoma and Duncans Mills or just relaxing with a book and a glass of wine, this location offers a perfect retreat.

Spacious house, beautiful landscape full of ferns moss redwoods Japanese maples, and a yard full of banana slugs. We found 25! The hot tub was clean and inviting. The beds were extremely comfortable. Fantastic gas stove and Weber barbecue. Great place to stay.

The home was set in a quiet, woodsy area, which was exactly what we were looking for. It was clean and fully stocked with everything we needed to make meals, get cozy in one of two living rooms and use the hot tub. The host was so responsive and kindly went to the house early to turn on heaters, which was great because it was a chilly weekend. We had a great time!

We had a lovely time staying here. The place really felt good. It was warm and cozy, clean, and the kitchen was well appointed. We particularly loved how close the location was to hiking trails in the Islands of the Sky. The hot tub was a fantastic way to soak the tired legs from a big hike. The hot tub also felt very private. We also enjoyed hanging out by the outdoor fire pit. There was beautiful fox that would visit and it was wonderful to feel so close to nature. Two thumbs up!

Amazing redwoods getaway

We totally loved Matt’s place, we were absolutely in the thick of the Redwood Forest and surrounded by nature. The local town was very charming and was also conveniently situated near Senoma Wine Country. Would absolutely stay here again.

What a great place in a beautiful area. We loved the yard with all the wildlife, the walk to town (Gold Coast Cafe), the Islands in the Sky trail, and of course the Russian River. The hosts were helpful with recommendations and quick to reply to any needs/questions. It was such a perfect place to escape the hustle of daily life. We can’t wait to return. Thank you!

The house deck and yard of this rental are all excellent. Kitchen worked very well. Beds very comfortable. Hot tub tub great. Having regular visits from foxes brought it over the top.

Everything you could ever want for a weekend on the river. Beautiful home on a beautiful lot. Quiet and serene. Monte Rio and Guerneville just a short drive away. Kim (property mgr) was very helpful and quick to respond with questions we had.

Wonderful & Relaxing

My family and I loved our stay here. House was the right size for the 5 of us. Owner extremely responsive and helpful. House was super clean. Property was wonderful, we enjoyed the deck and the hammock. Views were beautiful. Enjoyed eating at Blue Heron and Cape Fear with kids. Quick trip to a nice beach just down the way (owner had details)… would definitely come back! Thank you!

Beautiful and Serene Retreat

This property was one of the most peaceful properties I've stayed. Not only is the house in an interesting layout that is spacious yet cozy, but the landscaping and gardens were an absolute DREAM to spend the long afternoon in. I would absolutely stay here agin!

Great house in the redwoods!

We had a blast staying here for a quiet writing retreat! It was very peaceful to wake up in the misty redwoods in the morning and we loved being just a 25min walk from Duncan Mills (incredible pastries at the cafe). The kitchen is really nice and open and we enjoyed working in the living room and at the upstairs desk. The hot tub was a nice break and the stars were amazing when the sky was clear. Would definitely stay again!
