I have seen the mother deer many times bounding through the woods and I believe she was the one who helped herself and babies to my plants. I love them but found a natural product to distract them. Lake Deception has always been a lake without depth but it is deceptive...the lake goes on forever! i The lake can be over your head at the raft and only if we have lots of rain. That is why I ask that there be no diving. It is over my head always and I am of normal height. My grandchildren were just down and they love to jump off the raft and do a very flat dive where they skim the surface. Thank you again for choosing Morning Mist Cottage Retreat. This review shows a general lack of integrity and honesty in my experience with guests as a business owner for 25 years. Sadly, this review is a fabrication and retaliatory in nature. Mr. Doelman was unaware that VRBO remits taxes, and requires the guest pay a service fee. Added to Mr. Doelman’s dilemma, a couple who was to accompany he and his family backed out at the 11th hour leaving he and his partner to foot the bill. Hence, they both attempted to get compensation to cover their costs two weeks after they vacated my property. In good will I made Allen and Sarah aware that they paid 100 less per night in my peak season and received a 5% discount for staying seven nights. As well, they failed to pay the dog fee. Shelburne county was on fire in June and 60 families saw their homes burned to the ground. The drought was followed by torrential rains that poured down ferociously the month of July and into August. My fabulous docks which were built on a sandy beach were ripped asunder when the water level rose completely covering my docks and shifting the foundation. A huge loss for me as host and owner and disappointing to guests who expected a sandy beach. Guests were told of the rains and to take caution by entering the water from the shore. I have told guests for years it is impossible to control the weather and now more than ever. Mr. Doelman and partner not only sent me texts repeatedly comparing my property to a cottage in Ontario which is like comparing apples and oranges. It can’t be done. And lastly, when previous guests damaged my screen door on our 12-foot patio door a new one was ordered at my expense and was delivered the morning of Mr. Doelman’s arrival in the afternoon. Broken? Oh, my. I would suggest to future guests be sure you understand the terms of your reservation and if not within your budget you have time to reconsider. If you choose Morning Mist Cottage, I welcome you with bells on. As a premiere host with a five star rating these guests have attempted to destroy our 25 year reputation and for some it could be believed. Unfortunately, not everyone you meet is nice. Future guests to Morning Mist Cottage can look forward to a gutted and beautifully renovated main bathroom, an eight-person Arctic spa, two outdoor showers, a quaint and delightfully decorated outhouse with a functioning toilet and so much more. This is phase three of four phases, and the best is yet to come.
