La Paiola and the guest house, Casa Dei Maiali, were designed to embrace the unique and ancient beauty of the Tuscan countryside.
A short 5-minute drive from the fortress walls of the City of Volterra you will find a private road that leads to the 70 acre property. Pass through the lovely porte cochere and you have arrived at La Paiola.
As you descend the stairs past one of several bistro patio areas, you will begin to understand how private and tranquil the property is. You will instantly be in awe of the beautiful and architecturally historical elements of both the exterior and interior of the Villa.
The arched, classic Tuscan red front doors open into the first relaxing living space in the Villa. The comfortable seating and wood fireplace provide a serene place to cozy up with a book after a long day of sightseeing. Adjacent to the living room and one step down is the dining area with seating for eight. Through another arched doorway is the fully equipped kitchen with a large island, great for preparing meals with the fresh, authentic food you can find at the two local supermarkets or the smaller gourmet shops in town.
Accessible through the exterior doors off the kitchen and dining room is a large, multi-level covered patio. There is outdoor dining space for eight as well as another bistro seating area. This is where you can begin your day watching the glow of the sun come up over the beautiful Tuscan valley. It is also a wonderful place to dine alfresco as the sun sets over the mountainside.
There is a second, casual living space that you will pass though as you head up the stairs to two of the guest rooms and two full bathrooms. Each air conditioned bedroom has a queen bed and plenty of storage space so you can unpack and feel completely at home. The larger of the two bathrooms has a spacious shower and a tub that allows you to relax and enjoy a valley view through a large window. The third queen bedroom is located on the first floor a few steps up from the living room.
If you are in need of additional space, we can offer you our guest house, Casa Dei Maiali. The first level has an open floor plan with a dining space, seating area and kitchenette with a sink, stove and small refrigerator. You will pass by the outdoor patio space as you head up the stairs to the queen bedroom and 3/4 bathroom.
There are an abundance of beautiful outdoor areas to explore throughout the property. They are accessible down the stairs past the front door, or down the stairs from the patio off the kitchen. Along the way you will find another bistro seating area to enjoy the view of the picturesque landscape. Head down the path to the left and you will find an open grassy space with seating perfect for relaxing after a busy day of sightseeing. Head down the path on the other side and spend time wandering through the olive orchard. Be sure to cut some fresh rosemary from the many bushes along the way!
We know you will enjoy exploring the culture and history of Volterra and all that Tuscany has to offer. We hope you will find that the architectural beauty and the lush landscape of La Paiola enhances your experience even further.
