Nice and Quiet

Great house, in a great location. Plenty of wildlife to view and close to parks, food, and shopping. The house was very clean and the host communication was excellent. I highly recommend.

VT visit

We enjoyed the home and property and it was a wonderful space for our son to visit when not in class. We would certainly consider the property again, if we decide to rent a home in the area.

Plenty of space to hang out and feel at home. Pool table downstairs offered time for our family to have recreation activities and the kitchen had pots and pans for cooking.

Great getaway

We came for a long weekend with our dogs to be near our son at VA Tech. The house is very nicely done and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the front patio, back enclosed porch, and various sitting spaces. Location was good for grabbing something to eat and about 15 minutes from our son’s house near VT. We’d be happy to stay here again.

Excellent Hokie Family option w/ pet!

Easy (country road) 10 minutes to downtown Blacksburg. While we only had three adults on this trip and a small pooch, this home has plenty of sleeping and living space for several more. Indoor and outdoor spaces for gathering together with well appointed kitchen and outdoor cooking area. Highly recommend!

Visit to VA Tech

My family and I stayed at the Portmore House while visiting my son who is a student at VA Tech. We loved the house and its location. The house was very clean and comfortable. We especially enjoyed watching the sunset from the screened in porch! It was a short drive to campus and a shorter drive to restaurants and shops. We look forward to staying here again on our next trip to Tech!

Gorgeous home nestled in the idyllic woods, but only 15 mins from Virginia Tech campus! Would definitely stay again. This home is so beautifully designed & decorated in soft coastal hues, how relaxing. We cooked all meals but 1 at home in the beautiful kitchen. Ate most meals at the kitchen table, except Sunday dinner we had at the big round table in the front dining room; this home really has everything. A beautiful deck out back and covered porch out front. Sleeping in 2 of the 4 well appointed upstairs bedrooms was restful & lively to wake up & listen for faint birdsong. Took nature walks. Downstairs we played pool a couple of times, having a bathroom there, TV, washer & dryer, and sliding glass door out to a patio was really great also. Nice to be nestled deep into the woods, but really just a few minutes from town. Had 1 question for the host and received a very prompt response. Hopefully it will be a little warmer the next time of year we visit, as we’d very much like to sit outside on the covered front porch and rock in the rocking chairs and chit chat after dinner, slowing the pace of life down. The only wish we would have for the future would be to have more towels, bath, hand & wash cloth available and better quality towels to match the supreme quality of the home; more toiletries TP & dishwasher tablets, both were out & no problem we bought some. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your gorgeous home with us! We will be back!!!!

Great house in quiet neighborhood, 12 min to VT

We will definitely go back when availability matches our plans. House is nicely decorated with fun basement and backyard, comfortable beds and plenty of space for our alumni daughters and their families. Family room and kitchen were where we spent the most time cooking and sharing meals, listening to music. It was nice quality time with our family all together. On the main level, there is also a screened porch and a small unscreened portion off the kitchen. We enjoyed sitting out there on several occasions. Didn't have the chance to use the firepit downstairs outback but had plenty of wood if weather cooperated (windy). We did use the grill that is provided to cook chicken thighs for our spring game tailgate. Grandkids also enjoyed the pool table in the basement. We highly recommend for those interested in proximity to campus but the ability to return to the peace and quiet of this cozy cottage with plenty of room for the whole family.
