We arrived shortly before check-in at 3:00pm (approx. 2:50pm) and we were told they were still cleaning due to the cleaning people hadn't shown up. Fine, we understood and waited outside. The owner came out to explain the same and shared how to open the gate, the door of the building and the VRBO itself. Inside the apartment was lovely, however, the outside was scary. We ran to the market to get milk, came back and noticed the change in the neighborhood, the on street parking and some windows of cars had been broken out. Out of abundance of fear and concern for our vehicle and safety, we left. My husband called the owner at approx. 6:15pm to explain and he said that we needed to take the matter of reimbursement up with VRBO. We called VRBO and were told they would contact the owner. It wasn't until the next day that they emailed to say they hadn't reached him but would keep trying. Tuesday, May 19, 2026 we finally heard from VRBO and were told that our refund may be 300. My husband wanted to talk to a supervisor and was told the person he spoke to was as high as he was going and basically that is all we would receive. All in all, it was not as it was advertised (the pictures of the VRBO were nice, but we had no idea the neighborhood, the crime, or any other pictures of the area. I didn't receive the address until two days prior to leaving and didn't think I'd have to investigate my stay as I'd used VRBO in the past. Very disappointing customer service.
