I booked this long weekend get-away somewhat at the spur of the moment -- I'd been struggling all summer to get to the Delaware shore and couldn't make it work with the schedules of three teens and a college student. Determined, I went looking for an extra long weekend and found this wonderful cottage. Just the right amount of casual and well-equiped. This is not a luxury rental by any means but for me, it was perfect -- beachy, homey, and with a comfortable living room, a game closet full of games and puzzles, a screened-in porch that was perfect all hours of the day and night, and a kitchen that has everything you could possible want for meals in. Just the right location -- on a small side street, not even a hundred yards from the beach access (the walk down the sand path to the water's edge is longer than the walk to the entrance!) and a quick drive to groceries, farm stands, the liquor store, Dewey and Rehoboth proper. The beach itself was not crowded yet offered the perfect amenities -- lifeguards, chair and umbrella rental shacks with snacks (although the house does come with a couple of chairs and an umbrella, as well as sand toys), and even a water ice cart that drives up and down the beach in season. (The rental shacks also leave chairs and umbrellas out for "self serve" and the cart attendant collects the money). I can only think of only two drawbacks to this otherwise perfect little cottage. The street is apparently public beach access, so people would park on the street in front of the house (really on the lawn) and there was a parade of people passing the house first thing in the morning and in the afternoon. This didn't bother me at all, but it did irritate at least one other person in our party (so maybe it will be a downside for others?). The owners also don't allow pets. Dewey is a dog-friendly beach (morning and evening in season, all day in the off season) and I very much missed having my dogs with me. (I was unable to find a house that was as good as this one that allowed pets, so I left my beach-loving dogs at home and had to play with everyone else's dogs at that beach! :( ) If the owners would consider allowing dogs (many of the other rentals on the street do) this would be a place that I would return to again and again.
