Nestled in the heart of Mount Desert Island, Somesville is the island’s oldest settlement and a quintessential example of classic Maine charm. Founded in the 18th century, this picturesque village sits along the shores of Somes Sound, a stunning fjard that cuts through the island, offering breathtaking water views and a peaceful atmosphere.
Somesville is known for its iconic white footbridge, a favorite photography spot that spans a tranquil mill pond, reflecting the village’s postcard-perfect beauty. The town is rich in history, with the Somesville Museum & Gardens preserving its legacy as the first European settlement on the island.
Despite its quiet, residential nature, Somesville is centrally located, providing easy access to both Acadia National Park and the surrounding towns of Mount Desert Island. Whether you’re drawn to its historic charm, scenic landscapes, or peaceful waterfront, Somesville offers a serene retreat in one of Maine’s most treasured locations.
