Cutest house near beach

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Only negative is one of the beds was sagging in the middle, I didn’t report until we checked out because it wasn’t that big of a deal to us and we made it work. Too many positives to list! Pool is super close. Not too busy of an area but still close to everything. We loved it!!

Ok but needs updating

The property needed updating both inside and out. door handles coming off, wrench as a handle on the outside shower. Yard full of leaves and unkept vegetation. The beach was a good 3/4 mile walk. Recommend renting a golf cart.

Village of Tannin is a great location for guests wanting a quiet spot that's close to everything Orange beach has to offer. Cotton Bayou is the closest beach access, but we're happy to recommend our top picks too!

Birthday trip

The house was perfect size, the neighborhood was great and pool was amazing. The house has mold throughout and there was a leak that we had to have maintenance come fix, floors were so dirty our feet were black.

Tradition starter

As a mom of 5 boys ranging in ages from 22 down to 9 and 2 almost daughter I laws this is as a first for us in Orange Beach. A first for the 11 and 9 year old at the beach at a real beach anyway. My oldest will be married June 2025 and we loved this experience and this home and we look forward to many more vacations there. I’m looking at homes to buy in the next few year to even move there so the kids can always vacation in Orage beach Alabama.

Not as it seems

It was not like the pictures. If you have small kids, elderly or plus size people don’t book. Rooms are a good size there are small stairs that you have to be careful. You can tell there are some water damage. Only house in the neighborhood not renovated. Good for a last minute trip.

Friends Trip!

My wife and several other couples with their children stayed here and overall it was great and we really enjoyed our time. I will list a few pros/cons for anyone it may help.Pros: Neighborhood is great and house is in a great location, really close to the community pool, spent most of our beach time at Romar Beach (5min), lots of beds, management was very responsive.Cons: A few other reviews mentioned some of the rooms only being accessible via ladders and they in fact were (which is not mentioned in the listing), layout of house is strange, really only 2 working showers unless you use the outdoor shower, 2 of the beds were listed as twins but were actually toddler beds, house was older and some doors were missing handles, some missing knobs on random things, broken blinds in some of the rooms. The cons were non-issues for our group but I could see some of them being an issue for a lot of people.

The property was dated compared to others in the community. The A/C did not work. Maintenance had to be called and was unable to fix the problem. An A/C repair service came to fix the issue. The repair service was very sketchy (Sorry, just being honest)

Needs a lot of attention

This is not a place for any with small children or physical inability. You had to climb ladders to get to some of the bedrooms. The kitchen was in two sections. The layout of the house was awful. The bathrooms were awful. Honestly this was the house from hell. Thankfully the rental company moved us to a decent place. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The only improvements I can recommend is to tear this house down and rebuild a new one.

Good price, great location, wild layout

This house has a LOT of space. Which is great for a large group. I will say, the reviews did not lie--the layout is very strange. It is good in a way because if you have a lot of guests, you don't feel like you are on top of one another. The staircases on the back side of the house are STEEP. If you have any kind of disability or immobility they are not friendly at all. But the front of the house has more regular steps, still a bit steep. Some of the doors are a bit hard to keep shut because the house is old, definitely the only non-renovated house in the neighborhood. But it's not the biggest problem and the A/C in all but one room (on the very top floor) is great. It's right next to the community pool and a great neighborhood for getting to all the activities in the area and all the beaches. If you're mobile and you're in a big group, great place to stay.

Terrible experience

We’ve always booked our family vacation rentals through VRBO. This year will be our last. The property we rented was in terrible condition. Everything was literally falling apart. Even after sharing pictures and videos VRBO refused to be helpful. They just kept telling us it was on the rental property, and that it wasn’t their problem to deal with. Finally after calling a third time we got some help but we still had to figure out where to go. We ended up finding accommodations elsewhere no thanks to either company since no one wanted to take accountability.

House from Hell

Well to begin with, it would have been nice if the listing said this house was not a place for older people, lots of stairs and ladders to have to climb. One of the bathrooms that had a shower in it, was completely torn up. The shower tile was broken and in pieces. Guess they were replacing it!!! But why would you rent something in that kind of shape. Walls were leaking rain down them. And finally the last night there, the house was struck by lightening! Family members had electrical appliances such as phones, XBox and watches plugged in to charge that got fried!!! Not sure if there is something that can be done or if they have some kind of insurance for that for the renter, but if so, I would like to know. Would be nice if the description was much clearer, so other people are not mislead like we were!!! So very disappointed in our stay!!!

Not terribly bad

This house has its ups and down. The community is mostly new houses. This house i believe was one of the original built. Its older has tons of charm but also has tons of downsides. Stairs and ladders galore! If your bringing alot of infants or toddlers i dont recommend this listing its dangerous. Air vent did not work in one of the rooms we had to buy a window unit for our stay. There was dried vomit on the floor and toilet of one of the bathrooms as well as feces on the toilet. Showers are scarce. I used the outdoor shower all of my stay as well as my kids. Couldn't figure out how to work the tv's. The listing is somewhat deceiving photo wise. Rooms are tiny which was expected being an older home. This house is just across the street from the pool. The pool is massive! The code given to us for the pool door did not work we had to ask another resident for the code. The walk to the beach was not terribly bad. We did see a dead cottonmouth in the street across from the pond so wildlife dangers are accurate. Over all we made it work but sadly i probably wouldn't rent or recommend this house to anyone with small children or anyone who has a taste for finer finishings. We did leave a tablet behind and they were kind enough to find it for us and was told it would be mailed back to us.

Is not what it seems

Not good! It is listed as a super cute cozy place. The house is a maze and not very well thought out. We were told a few hours before checking in that one bathroom was not in working order. So that left ONE full bath in the back of the house, ONE bathtub (no one takes a bath in used jacuzzi tub) but it did have and extendable hose so you could stand and kind of shower, one tiny half bath and an outdoor shower. We had 15 people staying there.... I paid over 2k to stay here for 4 days and had to use and outdoor shower! The half kitchen is tiny. A stove top no oven and a tiny countertop toaster oven. The "second" kitchen had an oven that when turned on the house filled with smoke. We had to open the doors to let the smoke out. Zero outdoor cooking space. The grill had not been cleaned in years. ZERO privacy!! Doors not working properly. Old wet biscuits throw out of the side door on the the pathway that was overgrown and really not usable. The furniture in the bedrooms were stained so bad I put a towel over it to sit my bag down. The AC in the very top room with the twin and trundle beds had a window unit that should have been replaced 5 years ago. It was loud and did not cool the room properly. The bottom half of the room was cool and about shoulder height and up was like being out side. Hot and humid. Not enough sheets to make he pull out beds and the pull out bed in what I am guessing is the main living room had blood spots on the side. No response from listing office either.

Heron's Rest is a cozy beach retreat with a classic floorplan and several outdoor porches for soaking up the views. Our guests seem to enjoy the convenience of the outdoor shower after a day at the white sandy beaches and we're sorry if the house did not meet your expectations. When the Quality Assurance Inspector was conducting your pre-arrival inspection, a plumbing issue was found and because we take pride in being able to address these issues right away, the bathroom had to be closed while a vendor was scheduled to complete the repair. We wish we could have given you more notice but were glad to be able to communicate the update as soon as we were made aware. We appreciate your feedback and will share your comments with the housekeeping and maintenance teams. We're committed to providing a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all our guests and hope to welcome you back for another beach getaway!
