At the time that this review was written (by me), Casa Del Caribe was owned by Robert. I rented the house from him various times and feel in love with it. When the opportunity arose in April of 2016, I purchased the house from him. I am happy to now share this beautiful spot with others. Pura Vida- Shelly

We are always thankful for reviews as well as feedback and are pleased that this guest enjoyed so many aspects of the stay. As the guest mentioned, he had concerns about his stay before he even arrived and, he carried those concerns with him. Regarding the grounds having leaves- our property has a lot of nature and trees, mostly palm, banana and water apple trees that the sloths, aguti and kinkaju love to snack on. Like most trees, these trees do shed their leaves. Our gardener tends the grounds twice per month for a deep clean up and cut back. In between those times, we leaf blow and rake. Still, nature is nature and new leaves do fall. The yard is surrounded by a natural fence with chain link woven in. We added a mesh privacy fence, very common in our area, which most guest appreciate while relaxing in the Bali style pool which is 1.5 meters deep on the shallow end and 3 meters deep on the deep end- (not a splash pool). Behind the house and out of sight (unless you are really searching) we had a storage area for metal items that are to be recycled. The recycle truck- which is operated by a local family, not an actual company, comes monthly looking for metals to recycle as a means to generate income. Since this review, we have moved the storage area and now keep those items in another location. This guest also mentioned that they had many bug bites. As advertised, the downstairs area of the house does have open layout, the upstairs closes completely, and, we take precautions to limit mosquitos on our property naturally. We recommend that guests who are sensitive to bug bites wear a personal repellant- especially when spending time near the river at dawn and dusk when sand fleas tend to be more active. These guests enjoyed the river nearly every evening. Sand flea bites are very similar to bites of other bugs, including bed. Upon receiving this review, we immediately inspected the beds and furniture and found no evidence to support this claim. To be certain, we also called in professionals who also found no evidence. As for the comfort of the bedrooms- we have high ceilings with air release vents, ceiling fans above the beds as well as floor fans in each room. Because we understand that people have different preferences when it comes to the firmness of pillows, we have an array of different pillows. In the closets, we also have extra pillows that can be swapped out. Costa Rica is a beautiful county full of diverse nature. It is not for everybody. We are thankful for this review and for all feedback your feed back. We take great pride in our home and consistently update and replace things as needed. During Rosie’s stay the belt on the dryer snapped. Because it is an American style dryer, and as such not something commonly found in the area, it took us a few days to get a replacement belt which came from the other side of the country. The belt was replaced and the dryer is functioning perfectly. We also ordered a back up belt to have on hand in the house. Regarding the oven, the stove works perfectly, we were not aware that the oven section was not functioning until This stay. Likely because past guests have not baked anything there. We have a replacement for the entire unit being delivered in the next couple of weeks. In addition to the traditional coffee maker, we have a chorreador- typical style Costa Rican Coffee maker which we use most often as it is better suited for our area. American style coffee makers tend to get clogged up with calcium deposits rather quickly, (causing a slow brew) especially if tap water is being used to brew. When in Costa Rica, do as the Costa Rican’s do. ;) We are so glad that you enjoyed the spaciousness of the house. The 2nd bedroom does have 2 queen sized beds in it. One is a hand crafted Murphy bed that stays folded up against the wall. We bring it down to accommodate larger groups. The photos of the room set up both ways are available here. We are so happy that Marjan and her friend loved their stay with us! As mentioned, there are lots of swings and hammocks to relax in. We appreciate the feedback about the couches- Just last month we updated them and made them more comfortable. Regarding my responsiveness to texts, we lovingly direct our guests to contact our property manager, Fred with daily questions or concerns. Fred lives next door, is always happy to help and we have full confidence in his ability. I am often available as well, but, I am not always in the country, which was the case for part of this guest's 6 week stay. In regard to the discount that the guest mentioned, the discount was taken off of the original form of payment upon booking, they may not have noticed it on the invoice. Overall- we loved hosting Marjan and are happy that they had a very positive experience.

First- the guests arrived at the house before the scheduled check in time of after 3pm. We ask guests to call us and tell us what time they will arrive so we can make sure the house is ready and arrange for someone to meet them at the house. Upon their early arrival, our property manager and cleaning staff were still preparing the house. Arrangements were made for them to drop off their bags while the house was being finished. Additionally, the booking was for 4 people- 5 people arrived, without notice, requiring another bed to be prepared. On a neighboring property, a tree that had fallen was being milled. We do not have control over the neighbors and the work that they must do on their property to maintain it. when the guests complained about the sound of the saw, Fred, our property manager spoke to the men working and arranged for them to not cut the next day and to begin no earlier than 10:00 on Monday - the neighbor agreed. Monday, around mid morning, the gardener came to the neighbors property to chop. the guest, who was not even included in the original reservation, very aggressively confronted the neighbor. He was agitated and yelling that the neighbor should not be chopping because he has a call for work. He continued shouting that he should have been consulted before the gardener cut the garden because he had to work. When the man continued yelling- The neighbor told him that the gardener also has to work to feed his family, and that he should not come from another country expecting the people of this county to stop their own work. We regret that these word were exchanged- the locals in this area enjoy tourism- and benefit greatly from it- but still- gardens must be cut, and downed trees must be addressed. Even in resorts, gardeners garden. Regarding the kitchen supplies- we have wonderful supplies- from copper frying pans to a wok, and everything in between- all you could possibly need for a gourmet dinner. We also have some older pots and pans- one with burn marks in it from someone making popcorn. We don't waste things here. We keep the pot, for collecting kitchen compost to bring out to the compost pile. Yes- that pot exists, and so do several other very nice ones. Regarding a rusty knife- we are still searching for it. As for a "Moldy Pillow" all of our pillows have covers and cases. we wash all as pillows can smell damp from humidity. the pillow in question was the one added to the last min. bed. it was quickly replaced.
