Loved the peacefulness. Loved the farm animals. House was very clean and host was very friendly. My 4 year old granddaughter had a blast staying there and my 15 year old granddaughter was able to be outside and enjoy herself.

A hidden gem!

The home was everything that it said it would be and then some! Very relaxing, clean and in a great location. Close to Shenandoah National Park, restaurants, shops and wineries. Would definitely go back.

Perfect Getaway!

Three friends spent the most lovely time at Carrie's Cottage this past weekend. The cottage was perfectly clean, so comfortable and we appreciated the extra luxurious touches like a special treat left on the kitchen island, wonderfully plush towels and very comfortable beds. We plan to return again next year - we had such a lovely time!

Lovely cottage

We really love the property — so peaceful and close to the Skyline Drive. Its a close drive to downtown where you can enjoy Maybelles for breakfast and coffee. Alton and his family are all wonderful people and are very quick to respond if you need anything. Been going for years and will continue to stay at this cottage!

Lovely cottage outside of Charlottesville.

If you want to get away, this is a great place. But be advised, there’s nothing within about 15 minutes. So get food and supplies on your way in. You’re about 45 minutes from downtown Charlottesville.

Thanks for the Five Star review. We work hard to earn all our Five Star reviews. Folks love the amenities and the stunning mountain views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are centrally located to historic sites, award wining wineries and the Shenandoah National Park. We are less than 10 minutes from an IGA grocery; an Italian, a Mexican and an American restaurant; and a coffee and sandwich shop. We're 15 minutes to Walmart Supercenter, a dozen restaurants and a Starbucks. Yet you have the luxury of staying on a rural, private 150 acre farm!

Lovely stay

The peace and quiet was exactly what I needed. The treehouse and pool were exactly what my grandchildren needed. And the animals were what we all needed. Perfection! Alton and his staff were wonderful in every way. I'll definitely bring my family again and will highly recommend Carrie's Cottage to friends.

Fair Hill Farm

Absolutely delightful. A charming cottage with everything you need for comfort. Great host. Gorgeous farm property with co-host cat, miniature horses, and miniature donkeys. Great hiking trail right on the property. A lovely pond. Quiet and secluded. Close to Shenandoah National Park and charming Stanardsville. A real find.

A real getaway

If you're looking for a place that is off the beaten path, you will find it here! Lots of peace and quiet in this cozy guest house. Beautiful property and easy access to Shenandoah National Park. You may hear nothing but birds singing while you're enjoying your morning coffee or evening beverage on the front porch. Or you can sit at the pond or enjoy hiking trails on the property. You may even be lucky enough to see a family of bears crossing the road while you're hiking -- like we did!

Incredible mountain views

My sister and I visited over a long weekend during Parent’s Weekend at nearby Blue Ridge School. From start to finish, the weekend was fantastic. I was worried that check-in would be tricky because we arrived late, but they literally “left a light on for us” and made it simple. We entered the cottage to relaxing background music that was so nice we left it on all weekend. The cottage was clean and well cared for, and the farm itself was simply amazing. We enjoyed entertaining L’Etoile, the friendly kitty, feeding the horses and donkeys, and soaking in incredible mountain views. The Ambassador’s brother, John was a special treat— he escorted us to spots on the property where we witnessed spectacular views. He even coached us on taking memorable photos, and gave us a bit of history about the farm and its owner. We have vowed to return and recreate the magic of this weekend. Great stay!

Carrie's Cottage is at the back of a peaceful property. We drove up past pastures of cows and their calves and miniature horses and burros to our nice little spot overlooking the horse field. The house was ready for us on time, check in was easy (despite my mistake!), and the house was clean and welcoming, with music playing in the background when we entered. Beds were great, house has been updated so it's super usable. We were very comfortable as two adults, but it seems like it would easily fit a family of four. The house may be in a quiet area removed from the hustle and bustle, but it's very close to the very nice downtown of Standardsville (which provides a few amenities like a nice coffee shop) and not far from Ruckersville, which is fairly sizable with lots of food options. We were there to visit Skyline Drive and the house is very close to an entrance with lots of great hiking and overlooks nearby. Highly recommended if you're coming to the area to visit Shenandoah National Park!

Sunrise Cadence on the Farm

The cottage was comfy and cozy, and had everything I needed. Perfect for the solo traveler, as well as a couple or small family. Great base camp to explore the area (Monticello, Carter Mountain Orchards, Skyline Drive, plus hiking, and back road antiques and general stores). My favorite was sitting on the porch with my tea waiting for the sunrise over the hill and enjoying the cadence of frogs, crickets, birds, the "girls" ( mini horses), and cows. No traffic. No people. Just what I needed and wanted. Also enjoyed sharing my apples with the girls. I definitely hope to return for another visit. Thanks, Alton!

Lovely cottage in a movie-

staying at Carrie’s Cottage was the perfect ending for our trip to Shenandoah National Park. The cottage is very comfortable and inviting. The setting is beautiful. Couldn’t wait to wake up every morning to have coffee on the front porch and just look out over the gorgeous valley and watch spring come right before my eyes. The cottage is beautifully decorated with a deluxe bathroom, spa towels, and comfy beds. The washer dryer was a real plus. Loved our time there and would have liked to have stayed much longer.. Loved Carrie’s Cottage!

Wonderful Thanksgiving escape

Carrie's Cottage was perfect for our escape to the Shenandoah during our Thanksgiving break. The cottage is sunny, very cozy and comfortable, and situated on a beautiful farm in the foothills of the Blueridge Mountains. It is only a short drive to skyline drive or Charlottesville, and there are several trails on the property for short walks when you don't want to leave the farm. We highly recommend a stay.

Cute Weekend Getaway

This is a nice place for a couple (or small family) to get away to for a quiet weekend. In addition to being nicely decorated, it was very clean, and the big kitchen and relaxing sitting area with gas fireplace/stove made our December stay very cozy. The property also has miniature horses (that you can see out the window) and some nice walking trails in the surrounding woods. The owner also left us a nice Va bottle of wine, which was a very nice way to make our weekend a little more special.

South River Road Cottage Near Stanardsville
